Youth N Asia 0 Report post Posted July 27, 2005 Bill Laimbeer never got credit for as good as he was. He just got notice for hard defense, not dirty defense, but hard. Hell of a shooter and rebounder...5 time all-star.
nl5xsk1 0 Report post Posted July 27, 2005 Stock didn't really add anything to the team other than fighting. His business was fighting and waving to the crowd before getting tossed in the box, right? <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Ding-ding-ding ... we have ourselves a winner. Yeah, Stock didn't do anything besides fight (even though his teammates desperately tried to get him a goal or 2 ... I remember games where he'd get double-shifted late in the game and players like Thornton would just feed Stock the puck, right on the goal-mouth). He got the fans riled up, his fights with Stephan Peat were legendary, and it was kind of fun to hear the entire building chanting "PJ. PJ. PJ." as he fought. Neely had a funny quote about Stock's wave, too ... pretty much saying that if a player tried that shit in his era, the guy would've gotten his ass kicked for showing up the other fighter. BHK 0 Report post Posted July 27, 2005 Mario Lemieux The only other player to scroe 200 points in a season, the man would have utterly destoryed all ofGgretkzy's scoring marks had it not been for various injuries and diseases which allowed him to play only one full season(back, ribs, cancer) He should be considered the greatest hockey player of all time, easily. the max 0 Report post Posted July 27, 2005 He's still not underrated. He's considered one of the premier players of his generation. Calling him underrated is stupid. And saying that "without injury/disease, he'd have likely destroyed Gretzky's records" isn't a very good way to make your point. Lots of players were supposed to be the next Gretzky, but they didn't pan out. It sucks that Mario lost some of his career to Hodgkins, but to say that he's better than Gretzky or Howe or Orr because he suffered from a disease that limited his playing time is just dumb. I guess we can excuse Alex Daigle for not shattering Gretzky's records because he's a lazy fuck. But, we'll still call Daigle one of the top talents in the history of the NHL, right? Ranking someone based on their potential, like your doing with Mario is wrong. Players that play up to their potential are great. Mario, for the most part, has played to his potential. He has 683 goals and 1700+ points in his career. That's not underrated, that's greatness. A player that has accumulated great point totals but doesn't get the pub that Mario gets, like Mike Gartner or Dino Ciccarelli, those guys are underrated. CanadianChris 0 Report post Posted July 27, 2005 Absolutely ridiculous. He's one of the greatest players ever. He never scored 200 points in a season, either.
nl5xsk1 0 Report post Posted July 27, 2005 CC, he scored 199, though, and while technically not 200 it is really freaking close. And if we're going to say that injuries are an excuse/reason for not having more points, let me be the first to say Bobby Orr is both underrated (under BHK's line of reasoning) and the greatest hockey player of all time. Give that man two good knees and his career would have been entirely different. Oh, and also following BHK's thinking, Neely's one of the best 10 players of all time as well. CanadianChris 0 Report post Posted July 27, 2005 CC, he scored 199, though, and while technically not 200 it is really freaking close. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> I realize it's really freaking close. In this case, though, it's like the difference between hitting 499 home runs and hitting 500 home runs. It's a milestone, and he didn't achieve it.
nl5xsk1 0 Report post Posted July 27, 2005 Oh, don't get me wrong, I'm not defending BHK's erroneous claim ... nor am I saying that we should just round up the 199 to an even 200 just so we can say more than the Great One got to that milestone. Just pointing out ... well, I really don't know what my intention was ... I think it was just bragging that I knew that Mario got to 199.
Guest MikeSC Report post Posted July 27, 2005 Steve Tasker of the Buffalo Bills, easily. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> He's routinely referred to as the best Special Teams, or one of at the Very LEAST, of all time. I wouldn't call that underrated, but I'm not saying that praise is undeserved either, because he was. I kinda get what you're saying though, he's like Rudy, except he didn't suck, so maybe deceptively good or overlooked is a better term. John Madden on the NJ Devils. He grew up on the same street I did, bonus points. Kyle Turley, he'd be a perennial pro bowler if other coaches didn't hate him so much. They'd love him on their team though. Not by the media, but by a lot of fans, especially on this board, Michael Vick. I'm with everyone that hates the fellatio ESPN gives him but on this board he gets way too much hate, especially considering he's only had like two or three full seasons in the league. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Even weirder, on the few times when Tasker was permitted to play WR for a game, he delivered the goods. nl5xsk1 0 Report post Posted July 27, 2005 John Madden on the NJ Devils. He grew up on the same street I did, bonus points. Do you mean the John Madden that's been nominated for the Selke 3 times in the last 7 years or so, winning once and finishing 2nd twice? Calling someone with that many nominations underrated is a stretch.
Youth N Asia 0 Report post Posted July 27, 2005 People consider Lemieux one of the greatest ever. He's by no means underrated.

An example of an underrated defender: Scott Hannan of the Sharks.
Robert 0 Report post Posted July 27, 2005 Mine, probably Doug Williams. He was alway's over looked as one of the QB's of the 80's, his performance in SB 22 where he just destroyed the Broncos. He is well known for only that performance (first black QB to start and win a Super Bowl) and that's it. He revived the Tampa Bay Bucaneers to a NFC Title-contender in 79 after they were the laughing stock of the NFL. Will always be over looked and that's a damn shame. Boon 0 Report post Posted July 28, 2005 Bill Mueller. Batting champ two years ago, batting freaking ninth.
nl5xsk1 0 Report post Posted July 28, 2005 Boon, I think Mueller prefers to bat lower in the line-up ... they had him in the 2 spot for a while and he requested to be dropped in the lineup. I think he's normally in the 8 spot, behind Varitek and in front of Bellhorn.
Boon 0 Report post Posted July 28, 2005 Yeah- he prefers that spot, I'm just saying, the guy is underrated. Not saying the Sox were disrespecting him for batting him low.
