SuperJerk 0 Report post Posted July 24, 2005 I seriously think you're one of the only people on this board who didn't know who she is. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> This board isn't exactly representative of the general public.
Golgo 13 0 Report post Posted July 24, 2005 He already answered anyway. Lost in Translation. In Good Company also did well, as did The Horse Whisperer. But if you didn't see those, that must mean they weren't hits.
SuperJerk 0 Report post Posted July 24, 2005 None of those movies were even remotely hits (I'm basing this on amount of tickets sold). And you're actually trying to claim I should have heard of her because she was in "The Horse Whisperer"? You assholes are acting like I said I'd never heard of Natalie Portman (who actually WAS famous 3 years ago, unlike some people Curry thinks were...). Gary Floyd 0 Report post Posted July 24, 2005 While "The Devils Rejects" didn't do good, I didn't expect it to. That out of the way, I was suprised at how much I liked it. While it's not as entertaining as "Land of the Dead", or as intense as "High Tension" was until that movies final five minutes, it's a hell of a lot better than House of 1'000 Corpses", and unlike most homages (re. ripoffs) to 70's horror and 70's grindhouse cinema, it actually works. As for "The Island" tanking, I'm glad it did, and I have to agree that Scarlett Johannson is an overrated acress (though I did like her in "Girl with the Pearl Necklace")

Mik 0 Report post Posted July 24, 2005 Curry might be going about this the wrong way, but he is right. Lost in Translation was nominated for Best Picture, garnered a ton of praise, was featured everywhere and starred Scarlett. In Good Company had a commercial on every 15 seconds on any given channel. She even appeared as herself on the hit TV show Entourage. He's right, you're wrong.
SuperJerk 0 Report post Posted July 24, 2005 I didn't see or hear her name mentioned in ONE commerical for "In Good Company". And, despite how good it might have been, most people simply didn't see "Lost in Translation". Despite its apparent quality, it wasn't a hit. So...what's she been in that was such a huge hit (i.e. lots of people saw it) I'd have no choice but to know who she is? The answer is nothing. You guys keep talking about movies hardly anyone saw. I'm not saying they're not good movies, but I doubt they've been seen by enough people to turn her into the big star Curry is acting like she is. I'm not saying she's not pretty. I'm not saying she can't act. I'm just saying I've never heard of her, and I didn't understand why you guys were acting like she's this huge star, and (according to Curry) has been for the last 3 years. Excuse the fuck out of me for not knowing who someone is, when there's no good reason I should have.
Mik 0 Report post Posted July 24, 2005 Lost in Translation IS a big film. Give it up, dude. I bet you're thinking it's not because of the Box Office numbers. It was a smaller film that didn't play on that many screens. It generated mega Oscar buzz and was heavily featured in the months before the Oscars. A lot of people did see Lost in Translation. I bet if you could find the rental/DVD sales numbers you'd finally give it up.

I'm not debating how good the film "Lost in Translation" was, I'm saying it wasn't a big enough hit that'd I'd have no choice but not know who the female star of it was. This is especially true since 99% of the publicity related to the movie focused on Bill Murray.
Darthtiki 0 Report post Posted July 24, 2005 The Island liked it when I first saw it as THX 1138 or Logan's Run any others I'm leaving out here. Same thing with Stealth liked it the first time when it was 2001
Youth N Asia 0 Report post Posted July 24, 2005 Too many people were tricked into thinking that Lost in Translation was a great movie. A good movie at best, boring at times, although good performances from the leads. I really liked Ghost World, but I had a thing for Thora Birch then.

Mik 0 Report post Posted July 24, 2005 No, I'm not confused. Lost in Translation fucking sucked in my eyes. It's not a good film, too artsy. But the fact that it got tons of Oscar buzz generated publicity and made it a BIG FILM. Believe it or not, around January or February, MANY MANY people attempt to see all the films nominated for Best Picture and by that point it was already out on DVD. MarvinisaLunatic 0 Report post Posted July 24, 2005 I would think, given the ammount of ads I've seen for it, that the Bad News Bears remake was a bigger flop even though it probably didn't have as big of a budget.
WrestlingFan4Ever 0 Report post Posted July 24, 2005 Looks like Bay is going to go back to working with Jerry Bruckheimer. Jerry is probably saying "I told you so, that's what you get for not working with me." And I doubt Spielberg is ever working with Bay again. Dreamworks has a bomb on their hands. I still want to see The Island though eventually.

NYU 0 Report post Posted July 25, 2005 Charlie and the Chocolate Factory seems like it'd be below expectations at $28 million. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> For its second weekend? No. Charlie and the Chocolate Factory has already made nearly $115 million dollars since last Friday. It's on the right track. And thanks to RobotJerk, this thread turned into one of the dumbest discussions in a while. It was nice of him to drag the conversation out for two pages, instead of simply going to IMDB and searching for what movies Scarlett Johanssen was in instead.
