Fartsauce 0 Report post Posted August 11, 2005 In news that will be on every front page newspaper, Defenseman Brad Lukowich has signed a two-year contract with the Islanders. In all seriousness, today has been one of the least active days in signings. Which major stars are left to be picked up, restricted or unrestricted?
CanadianChris 0 Report post Posted August 11, 2005 Now that Thornton resigned with Boston, Marian Hossa and Curtis Joseph are probably the biggest names left on the market. EDIT: Scratch that, Hossa filed for arbitration. Jose Theodore remains unsigned, too, though.
Boon 0 Report post Posted August 11, 2005 Thank God Thornton signed.
nl5xsk1 0 Report post Posted August 11, 2005 I couldn't agree more, Boon. Especially to a 3 year deal; 5 years was too long, IMHO, and just the one year QO was basically "we're trading him at the deadline regardless of our position in the standings". The B's will have two solid lines now (Thornton/Muzz/Scatchard, and Sammy/Bergeron/Zhamnov) plus more third and fourth liners than you can shake a hockey stick at. As long as Raycroft plays anywhere near as well as he did last year in the regular season, the B's have a good chance of winning their division.
Fartsauce 0 Report post Posted August 11, 2005 I'd shit my pants if the Oilers went after Cujo, but he's probably asking for too much. I'll never forget the save he made in game 7 against Dallas and only seconds later Marchant scoring the winner to end the series.
Fartsauce 0 Report post Posted August 11, 2005 My buddy on Messenger just said that Lindros is officially a Leaf. I don't see it reported anywhere though. Did a radio station in T.O confirm it? edit: the report is from the fan590 and sportsnet. I won't believe until TSN confirms.
nl5xsk1 0 Report post Posted August 11, 2005 Confirmed: http://www.tsn.ca/nhl/news_story.asp?id=133156 When do you think he'll get this season's first concussion? I'll take November 8 in the pool, please.
smh810 0 Report post Posted August 11, 2005 Eh most of his concussions are fake anyway... but this still wont end well.
the max 0 Report post Posted August 11, 2005 Lindros gets a concussion opening his mail for god's sake. He won't last. Thornton signing, I guess I'm ok with it IF he's motivated. If he plays like the fucking whiner that he played as in the playoffs when he went 0-for-the-series, I'm'a be pissed.
treble 0 Report post Posted August 11, 2005 I don't hate the Lindros signing since it's only 1-year and if it doesn't work out this year then it's no big deal. And hey, there's a lot of upside, because you know he'll be motivated since he's playing for his favourite team.
Fartsauce 0 Report post Posted August 11, 2005 Chara is going to knock Lindros out of the NHL.
smh810 0 Report post Posted August 11, 2005 Lindros gets a concussion opening his mail for god's sake. He won't last. Concussions are not the issue with Lindros. He's had 2-3 AT THE MOST in his career (the 2000 hit by Stevens being one of them). The problem with him is that well he never learned to be an adult. For example, off the record some of his teammates have cited more than several incidents of his parents calling the locker room complaining aabout the line the coach was putting him on. Most of the concussions were confirmed by a doctor with a less than credible record and the family tried to leverage that into a settlement like they did for his brother. Perhaps they're past that point now but I hope for Lindros's sake he's grown up.
therealworldschampion 0 Report post Posted August 11, 2005 Oh great, watch Clarke have Derian Hatcher go headhunting after Lindros now...
Cartman 0 Report post Posted August 11, 2005 Thornton didn't want 5 years, so they settled on 3. Since the "salary cap" will fluxuate depending on leage revenues(ala NFL) Joe thinks he has a good chance at getting even MORE money in 3 years time. Great signing. Also I don't get why people dislike PJ so much as he is a very SOLID 3rd line winger. I expect the B's lines to look something like this: 1: Thornton, Muzz, Isbister(Knuble clone but better) 2: Sammy, Zhammy, Bergeron 3. Axe, McEachern, Scatchard 4. Fitz, Hilbert, Huml D pairs could be: Leetch/Boynton Gill/Kultak Moran/Girard Then throw Rayzor and Toivonen in net.

stahl 0 Report post Posted August 12, 2005 Concussions are not the issue with Lindros. He's had 2-3 AT THE MOST in his career (the 2000 hit by Stevens being one of them). I disagree with this statement. http://www.nhl.com/news/2005/08/232744.html This is a timeline of his career and I count 6. The Scott Stevens hit was his 6th career concussion and most of them were close together which would make matters worse.

The Scott Stevens hit was his 6th career concussion and most of them were close together which would make matters worse. Read my last post again. Most of the concussions were confirmed by a doctor with a less than credible record and the family tried to leverage that into a settlement like they did for his brother. No one is gonna say that more than half of his concussions were fabricated publicly. However, its a dirty secret around the NHL that "Dr. Kelly" was paid off by the Lindros family to diagnose him with concussions in order to try and grab money just like they did for Brett Lindros. A lot of those "concussions" could not and would not be confirmed by either the Flyers doctors or other physicans and were confirmed by Dr. Kelly on a third or fourth opinion. The bottom line the family is sneaky and dirty. Perhaps they moved past trying to rip NHL teams off now but it doesnt change that Eric Lindros is one of the most legendary problem children ever. CanadianChris 0 Report post Posted August 12, 2005 I wouldn't put it past them. Carl Lindros is a legendary scumbag. In actual hockey news, the Senators resigned backup G Ray Emery.
the max 0 Report post Posted August 12, 2005 Great signing. Also I don't get why people dislike PJ so much as he is a very SOLID 3rd line winger. I expect the B's lines to look something like this: Because PJ sucks. He focuses too much on the defensive side of things and doesn't use his smallish size to his advantage playing against the lesser D pairings. 1: Thornton, Muzz, Isbister(Knuble clone but better) No way that Isbister is better than Knuble. Knuble has actually produced at the NHL-level, while the jury is still out on Isbister's offensive skills. 3. Axe, McEachern, Scatchard 4. Fitz, Hilbert, Huml I'd bump PJ to the 4 and send Hilbert to the 3, making the lines: Geck-Hilbert-Scatchard Fitz-Huml-PJ Leetch/Boynton Gill/Kultak Moran/Girard I guess these will have to do. God, the Bruins need some more defensemen. Then throw Rayzor and Toivonen in net. Keep Toivonen at the minor league level for another season and sign a veteran backup. Boon 0 Report post Posted August 12, 2005 I guess these will have to do. God, the Bruins need some more defensemen. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> They needed Gonchar to sign.
Cartman 0 Report post Posted August 12, 2005 Well thy just signed some Minor league goalie for Providence. Toivonen is 100% definitely the B's backup this year. I had hilbert and scatch on seperate lines because they are both generally centers.
nl5xsk1 0 Report post Posted August 12, 2005 yeah, if they had Gonchar instead of Leetch, I'd feel much more confident going into the season. As little as I like him, hopefully Girard is fully recovered and can take the next step ... I'd rather see him get playing time than a passed-his-prime Leetch. RE: Isbister/Knuble ... I'll be curious to see what Knuble does with Philly ... he definitely had a great situation in Boston, playing with Thornton & Muzz. Will he be able to produce on the same level with the Flyers? March 4, 2000: Suffers concussion when checked by Boston's Hal Gill. ^ from the Lindros timeline that stahl posted ... from what I've heard Lindros actually got this concussion from Rick Tocchet (spelled wrong?) beating the bag out of him because Lindros was had slept with Rod Brindamour's wife and then was sleeping with Tocchet's wife, too. CanadianChris 0 Report post Posted August 12, 2005 Still more signings: - Miikka Kiprusoff signed a 3-year deal with Calgary. - L.A. signed Valeri Bure. - The Canadiens re-signed Mike Ribeiro. - Vincent Lecavalier and the Lightning have agreed to the framework for a one-year deal, but are still trying to hammer out something longer. stahl 0 Report post Posted August 12, 2005 Read my last post again. I did and you clearly stated that he had 2-3 concussions As for the Tocchet incident. I heard that since Brind'amour demanded a trade once he found out about Lindros sleeping with his wife, Tocchet kind of "enforced" Lindros and drilled him with a punch. A few days later Lindros got a concussion from Gil. I never heard anything about Lindros sleeping with Tocchets wife though
nl5xsk1 0 Report post Posted August 12, 2005 I was at the game that Gill allegedly gave Lindros the concussion ... the hit was a next-to-nothing check, it really didn't seem like it would cause a concussion (even on a guy that's had a few already). RE: the Lindros/Tocchet/Brindamour thing ... I'd only heard about Lindros & Brindamour's wife before recently, and then a google search to try and find if the story's ever been validtated brought me to a page that said that Lindros moved onto Tocchet's wife after Brindamoure got traded from Philly. smh810 0 Report post Posted August 12, 2005 I did and you clearly stated that he had 2-3 concussions Youre missing my point entirely, most of those concussions are fabricated as in not real. This isnt Steve Young or Troy Aikman here, youre talking about a family and a player with a very shady history for reasons I talked about above. The whole Lindros gets a concussion every time he breathes perception while good for comedy and a punchline (no pun intended...I think) is pretty much a misnomer.
