ZGangsta 0 Report post Posted February 12, 2008 If you decriminalize marijuana, federal spending on busts goes down (kinda), but use skyrockets, which leads to use of other drugs (don't even try to contest that), which could lead to that federal money just being use to prosecute other drug use. Come on, that 'decriminalizing would get more people to smoke pot' argument is such bullshit. Does weed lead to other dugs? Maybe. There's arguments on both sides of that one that I buy. But pot is so fucking easy to get ahold of anyways that it's not going to get MORE people using if they change the way they deal with it in the legal system. Look, there's no one out there going "Hey I'd consider smoking some pot right now if only the legal ramifications were different." You want people smoking less weed, start educating, just like alcohol. Arrests aren't going to change a thing, just like alcohol. You guys think they're going to legalize weed..haha..you all realize that the Nanny State government is moving towards banning things that aren't good for you..not legalizing them. When there's no more tax revenue to be had from ciggarette taxes due to a vast majority of people quitting, you'll see them banned for good since its pretty much getting to that point anyway when laws are being proposed saying you cant even smoke in your own house if you have kids. either that or people will have to start walking around in their own little smoking bubbles anytime they want to smoke anywhere. All hail the Nanny State government, taking care of you so you dont have to take care of yourself. Yeah but dude all that won't go down until after they install the North American Union and complete the open border highway from Mexico to Canada. Glen Beck told me this in a dream too. The smoking stuff is already going down in the smaller forms resricting where people can smoke isuch as in their own cars so its not a stretch that it could go to that extreme. I wont even get into the NAU..
Guest Blue Man Czech Report post Posted February 12, 2008 Fuck smoking and fuck you. Really, Marv? This is the hill you're gonna die on? Smoking? When did Marvin go from being politically apathetic to being a loyal soldier in the Glenn Beck army? I mean, how odd. I'm terribly allergic to cigarette smoke and can't be near it without turning into a flushing hacking mess. With you being on the verge of death at any given moment, wouldn't you support any legislation that keeps the cold hand of Death Himself just another inch or two away? I'm a libertarian with an allergy, and I won't challenge any smoking bans.
MarvinisaLunatic 0 Report post Posted February 12, 2008 Because its not about smoking...I dont smoke myself and never will but I do have a problem with goverment sticking its nose in where it doesnt belong by te telling people they cant do something thats still perfectly legal on their own property which is why it wont be too long after that before they'll ban smoking altogether (though not before they exhaust the tax on it). Maybe youd have a problem with the government saying you cant drink alcohol in your own house? There are already laws in place that prevent bars from serving patrons who are obviously drunk but theres nothing to stop people from drinking in excess in their own home, so its a logical extension of current laws to prevent drunk driving by saying you can no longer drink in your own home. See where this is going?

Big Ol' Smitty 0 Report post Posted February 12, 2008 [Clinton] has to win both Ohio and Texas comfortably, or she’s out,” said one Democratic superdelegate who has endorsed Mrs. Clinton, and who spoke on condition of anonymity to share a candid assessment. “The campaign is starting to come to terms with that.” Campaign advisers, also speaking privately in order to speak plainly, confirmed this view... Several Clinton superdelegates, whose votes could help decide the nomination, also said Monday that they were wavering in the face of Mr. Obama’s momentum after victories in Washington, Nebraska, Louisiana and Maine last weekend. Some of them said that they, like the hundreds of uncommitted superdelegates still at stake, may ultimately “go with the flow,” in the words of one, and support the candidate who appears to show the most strength in the primaries to come. http://www.nytimes.com/2008/02/12/us/polit...amp;oref=slogin
MarvinisaLunatic 0 Report post Posted February 12, 2008 I even now agree with the argument against seatbelt laws..seatbelts shouldnt be mandatory, its the government sticking its nose in things and is arguably where the whole nanny government started. People should have the option to wear them and suffer the consequences of not if they were in an accident, but no you cant make that decision for yourself. Im surprised they havent mandated using helmets in cars to prevent head injuries like they do on bikes and in auto racing. If seatbelts save lives, imagine how many people's lives would be saved with hemets!

Guest Blue Man Czech Report post Posted February 12, 2008 That's a dopey slippery slope argument, Marvin, and even I'm not fond of wearing a seatbelt when I sleep in the car. Driving, yeah. No, there's no logic to how I feel. However, I do like CWM's belief that seatbelts should be mandatory because in the event that you fly through your windshield, you become a projectile, and dangerous to innocent bystanders. "Hit by a drunk driver" indeed.

MarvinisaLunatic 0 Report post Posted February 12, 2008 so what does everyone think about Hugo Chavez's threat to cut off oil exports to the US? Our economy clearly cant handle a 100% jump in oil prices and drop in supply (seeing as though Venezuela is our #1 source of oil) but everything Ive read says it might be bad initially but the US has oil reserves we could use and we could get more oil from other countries..but still.. Im interested in what the candidates would do about it to either stop it or fix the situation..I havent heard anything on that yet.
snuffbox 0 Report post Posted February 12, 2008 Keep us updated on this situation, please!
Big Ol' Smitty 0 Report post Posted February 12, 2008 Chavez has threatened to do that a buncha times. He's full of shit, he needs that oil money to keep his quasi-dictatorship afloat.
MarvinisaLunatic 0 Report post Posted February 12, 2008 I agree but theres a possibility he sees an opening with our economy as bad as it is to have an impact on the elections and everything.. It would most certainly mean $5 a gallon gas if the price of a barrel of oil went up to close $200 and a short term shortage.. And for reference, the price went up like $2 a barrel today just on the news of his threat.
Big Ol' Smitty 0 Report post Posted February 12, 2008 It would be more harmful to Venezuela than to the US.
Dobbs 3K 0 Report post Posted February 12, 2008 Well, the one thing that's guaranteed is that Bush and Congress will continue to do nothing about gas prices, no matter how high they get.

At Home 0 Report post Posted February 12, 2008 Are we really talking about the legitimacy of fucking seatbelts?
Guest Blue Man Czech Report post Posted February 12, 2008 If, after McCain said the whole "bomb Iran" thing, Mitt Romney had fashioned a surf-rock retort by singing "two girls for every boy," I probably would've voted for Mitt Romney. Sorry, I can't use The Amazing Rondo in Current Events.
Edwin MacPhisto 0 Report post Posted February 12, 2008 So much for voting. I got to my polling spot today and the arthritic codger running the show said it was about a 2-hour wait. It was probably more like 3-4; there were about 400 people and 2 voting booths. There's gotta be a better way to do this.
MarvinisaLunatic 0 Report post Posted February 12, 2008 Are we really talking about the legitimacy of fucking seatbelts? Im not saying they dont save lives and I use mine every time I get in the car, but thats because I dont want to die in a car accident. But government requiring the use of seatbelts is basically the government saying you're too stupid to realize that and not take steps to take care of yourself. I know that most people DO wear them now, but it took the fear of getting pulled over and getting a large fine and points on their liscense to do it. Its just like Universal Health Care. You're too stupid to get healthcare for yourself (since I believe the figure is over half the of the uninsured are able to afford it and choose not to for various reasons) and they want to penalize you (garnish wages if you dont sign up for it) into getting health care to take care of yourself. The government's main responsibility isn't to take care of each person..its to protect the people of the country but not to take care of them like their mommy would. If people dont want to wear seatbelts, have health insurance, or if they want to be able to eat trans fat laden foods and smoke if they want to even if it would kill them, its their choice and they should be able to do so. But Big Brother..er..Nanny is here to keep you from killing yourself..

Edwin MacPhisto 0 Report post Posted February 12, 2008 I like that sentence structure. 1) Marvin, Marvin, Marvin. 2) I'm gonna see if I can duck out of work early and see if I can get in before the polls close a little more easily. Take that, The Czech Republic!
Guest Blue Man Czech Report post Posted February 12, 2008 Yeah, I sorta hurried that one through. Oh come on, you don't want to be around all those old people. THey're not even the interesting old people, like my grandmother and her neighbor, who can discuss all the places in the world they've been and where the best Polish delis are around the area. These are just old people who care deeply about primaries.
MarvinisaLunatic 0 Report post Posted February 12, 2008 I dont get to vote today but I just went by the school polling place and there was like 3 cars parked outside. damn being an independent in a state thats not messed up enough to allow independents to vote in either parties primary! not fair! I cant wait to see the voting map breakdown of MD on CNN. Im willing to bet that Huckabee does on the Eastern Shore but not enough to win since the rest of MD will go Mccain. Im pretty sure the entire state will go towards Obama on the democrat side.

EricMM 0 Report post Posted February 12, 2008 Its too late. Oh and Marvin, the reason that its mandated is so that less people get killed and maimed every year. Which is good for America. Don't you see that?
