bob_barron 0 Report post Posted September 4, 2008 As someone who never agrees with Jerk, bringing up personal stuff that has no relevance to the discussion was pretty low and pointless. The reason people like picking governors is that governors have a good track record of winning. This is going to be the first president elected from the senate since Kennedy. bob_barron 0 Report post Posted September 4, 2008 Some friends and I were interested in going to the third debate, but apparently it's impossible to get tickets, and they mostly give them out to students. Sounds like they're following the format of the last two elections
Guest Report post Posted September 4, 2008 This is basically all I've got to say, and if Bob responds, I'll respond to him via PM. Jerk is telling me to stay on-topic while throwing jabs in my direction. If I kept Current Events on-topic, a majority of the last 100 posts would get deleted. We aren't going through the trouble of moderating with an iron fist. There is really nothing wrong with what I said, at all. The subtitle in the forum says writer beware. This folder isn't for people that get uppity about a slightly snide comment. This is pretty close to NSFW, but not. If you don't like it, tough. He's a 33 year old man for fuck's sake. He can act like it. I know Jerk is going to respond to me, but please, don't. Act 33. Take the high road and shut the fuck up. Don't cry and whine when someone decides to confront your point of view. I don't want to argue with you anymore. I said what I had to say in the first place and that was all I wanted to say.
RonL21 0 Report post Posted September 4, 2008 (OT) RonL21, what's going in your signature? It appears that Jonathon Coachman has been doomed to an eternal loop of buzzkill. (T) With these articles falling over themselves to say they like Sarah Palin personally but hate her positions, I wonder if any of them are salvaged drafts written for Huckabee's VP nomination. it's from Teddy Long's and Kristal Marshal's wedding

Jobber of the Week 0 Report post Posted September 4, 2008 Starting in January, in a McCain-Palin administration, we're going to lay more pipelines ... build more new-clear plants ... create jobs with clean coal ... and move forward on solar, wind, geothermal, and other alternative sources. From the teleprompter. Yep, they phonetically wrote out the big people words so it wouldn't overwhelm her.

My favourite part of Romney's speech was when he kept posing for standing ovations...yet there was lukewarm response. I think that's because even the ultra-partisan crowd at the RNC realized "Holy shit, Mitt Romney talking derisively about East-coast elites is just too ironic and hypocritical to support, even for us!" SuperJerk 0 Report post Posted September 4, 2008 I think the Republicans decided a long time ago that they can be as hypocritical as they want, and it won't hurt them on election day so long as they "turn out the base." That's the only way to explain this campaign. Republican vice presidential candidate Sarah Palin on Thursday took an immediate swipe at Democratic nominee Barack Obama in her first solo campaign appearance since joining the GOP ticket. The Alaska governor also issued a fund-raising appeal that blamed the Democratic presidential ticket for spreading "misinformation and flat-out lies" about her family and her.... ...She did not take questions from reporters. http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20080904/ap_on_el_pr/cvn_palin So, if you were a member of the press, what question would you most want to ask her? SuperJerk 0 Report post Posted September 4, 2008 I was going to ask how being commander of the Alaska National Guard has prepared Paslin, but someone already found the answer for me. Occasions in which Palin does retain command authority over the 4,200-member Alaska National Guard are whenever the guard responds to in-state natural disasters and civic emergencies, said Campbell, who also serves as commissioner of the state Department of Military and Veterans Affairs. Some examples? "We've deployed individuals in state service all over the state under Sarah Palin," he said. "We had defense men down in Seward for the (Mount) Marathon run doing security. "Out west and northwest we had erosion problems and the National Guard was involved in some of the protection out there. About three days ago, the Army National Guard picked up a lady from Little Diomede ... at the request of state troopers." Did Palin directly approve each of those activities? No, Campbell said. http://www.adn.com/sarah-palin/story/515499.html

Jobber of the Week 0 Report post Posted September 4, 2008 I'd like to say "At Home" put his foot in his mouth with this line: Refute? Clint-dawg can REFUTE so-called media sexism, as the woman who single-handedly made almost every talking head put their tail between their legs and apologize for attacking her in virtually any way? This is the big difference between Palin and Clinton: Like Obama, Clinton has moved beyond her minority status. Obama has not run on "LOOK AT ME I'M BLACK THIS SO HISTORIC I'M A FUCKIN' BLACK MAN HERE LOOK AT ME DANCE." Likewise, Hillary Clinton has a reputation for a tough attitude, pantsuits, and rejecting the gender role. Her reputation as an 'ice queen' comes from talking to men the same way men talk to other men. Even Republicans will tell you that if you are a man she will talk with you like she is a man. Hillary has rarely played the sexism card. I know she did in an ABC debate when she was being double-teamed by Edwards and Obama, but rarely with "talking heads." There is simply very little feminine in her choice of language. This is contrast to Palin and her Mom Of The Year act, and her clever phrases like "put down the Blackberry, and pick up the breast pump." Can you imagine Hillary Clinton making light talk about her breast pump? Probably not.

SuperJerk 0 Report post Posted September 4, 2008 To be fair, it was Hillary's surrogates, not her, complaining about sexism. She did complain about the media not being fair to her for other reasons, though.

Jobber of the Week 0 Report post Posted September 4, 2008 PolitiFact is catching up with last night's BS. FactCheck is still running behind. Some guy supported Huckabee's claim that Palin got more votes than Biden's Presidential bid did, and they have given it their "pants on fire" rating for being blatantly untrue: If Huckabee is going to compare a small-town mayoral election to a national presidential race, then it's only fair to look beyond the single, hard-to-quantify caucus for which Biden was an active candidate. Iowa aside, his combined 8,109-vote total in Obama's and Clinton's home state primaries alone is bigger than Wasilla's entire population. Pants on Fire is our ruling.
