Campaign 2008

Recommended Posts

When you ask Republicans what they think of Mr. Obama, the word “socialist” comes up more often than not. They mention that he is a smooth talker, and not in a good way. A lot of them seem to have real problems with Michelle Obama, too, though they cannot pinpoint why. And they do not much care for that Joe Biden, either, or whatever his name is — many cannot immediately summon it.

No he won't. It might be close but there are still too many old people that couldn't fathom voting for a black man.

Freakonomics author Steven Levitt is also a professor at the UoC.

Steven Levitt describes himself as a ROGUE ECONOMIST.

Steven Levitt even SAYS THAT CHILD CARSEATS ARE FOOLISH.

Steven Levitt--professor at the UoC. Barack Obama--professor at the UoC.

Coincidence? I think not.

-----------------------------------

538 gives Obama a 74% chance of winning Florida, by the way.

Barack Obama should not be president because apparently every professor at the University of Chicago hates America.

Yeah, let's just keep pushing this stupid shit nobody cares about, not because it works, but because it makes Palin look good to the "base" for her 2012 run.

Khalidi has been a harsh critic of U.S. foreign policy toward Israel and has accused the country of "occupying" Palestinian territories. But he has denied acting as a PLO spokesman during a seven-year period in the 1970s and 1980s.

Khalidi said Wednesday, "I am not speaking to the media at this time, and certainly not until this idiot wind passes."

Hee hee.

I hate that both of the tickets are contradictory. McCain is running on experience, but has attached himself to someone that has none. Obama is running on change and a fresh face in Washington, but Biden is one of the most experienced game-players around.

Indeed.

We spent last summer debunking the correlation between experience and presidential greatness, only to have the same arguments against Obama now used against Palin. Wilson and FDR were also first term governors, but the difference is that they had first-rate minds that elevated them to greatness. I have no problem with Palin's resume, except when she tries to embellish it with false claims and bullshit logic. Her resume is not the problem...her mediocre brain is the problem.

It is hard to defend the selection of Biden, considering he is the opposite of Obama's message, but I do like a lot of his foriegn policy ideas. Too bad he can't stop saying stupid things long enough to talk about them.

Yeah, I'll admit it. Both VP picks could have been better.

Woodrow Wilson was a fuckface.

I agree. An idealistic, womanizing (which I have nothing against), racist fuckface.

An idealistic, womanizing (which I also have nothing against), progressive, brilliant visionary in international relations who also happened to be a racist fuckface.

Altough one of the less offensive neo-cons, his endorsment made me consider throwing away my vote on the Green candidate for a quarter second.

If you do that, vote Nader or Brian Moore (Socialist.) Do not vote for McKinney, the crazy lady who assaulted a House security guard for not recognizing her ass. Do not vote for the candidate who gave shoutouts to hip-hop artists in her acceptance speech. Do not vote for the kind of loudmouth third parties as a movement do not need.

I would vote for Reverend Wright waaaaay before McKinney.

Having followed sites like pollster, realclear, and politico heavily in this campaign, i've found drudge less and less relevant to me, I mean i knew he was selective but it never really hit me exactly how ideologically selective he is.

Drudge is a joke. His site is like HuffPo on the other side, but HuffPo is much easier to read.

FiveThirthyEight is much more worth your time than Drudge.

That's hilarious. Who could ever picture such a thing--old people beating young people over the head with walkers.

I think anyone undecided at this point is either an attention whore or is willfully ingnorant.

Or they just think that neither guy is really worth their vote. What, is that too simple an explanation?

Even if you don't like either of them, one of them has to appear to be the "lesser of two evils" according to your political views.

That's a rousing call to the electorate: "Just vote for the guy you dislike less!" Forgive me for sounding "unpatriotic" here, but I think I'm going to be sitting this one out. Of course, where I live voting for McCain might as well be like voting for Mickey Mouse.

It's not unpatriotic to not vote, but it is just kind of lazy not to. Seriously, no matter who you are voting for, you should always make it an effort to vote. Voting is the easiest thing to do, and you can virtually always get time off work to do it. Hell, just show up and vote for your local comptroller or something.

Racheal Maddow just ran a new Obama ad where McCain is quoted months ago saying he wasn't strong on the economy and that he'd have to rely on his Vice Prez for economic help.... it fades to ....."His choice?"

and then flashes to Palin winking during the debates

I howled from laughter

It's not unpatriotic to not vote, but it is just kind of lazy not to.

It really depends on your state's priorities. Voting is easy in California because they go through great expense in the effort to make as many people vote as possible.

In Nevada, the concern is to spend as little money as possible on elections, and voting can be inconvenient at times.

Oh, I'm voting for everything else this year, but it's really hard to get up for it when it seems like everybody in this state is a fucking Senator/Rep/Whatever For Life since their competition is usually a joke. I'll vote for my fucking cat before I vote for Ted Kennedy.
