WWE bans the "450 Splash & the SSP" !!

Recommended Posts

Guest nokia

Vince McMahon has sent word down through WWE that he wants cruiserweights to tone down several risky high flying moves, unofficially banning maneuvers such as the 450 splash and the shooting star press.

Apparently the number of injuries has caused McMahon to decide that high flying risky maneuvers are simply not worth it. The unofficial ban actually went into effect around two weeks ago and when Paul London used the shooting star press against Nunzio on a recent edition of Velocity, he was told by company officials not to use it again and to come up with a different finisher.

London along with other WWE cruiserweights are upset about having to tone down their style. Many in the industry are comparing this unofficial ban to the ban of the tombstone piledriver where WWE officials only let the Undertaker and Kane use it in dramatic situations.

* Guess main finisher for the little guys is the worm.....This is HORRIBLE news to us, The Paul London fans.....

This here is why once TNA gets a TV deal (or when it starts if they already have one, can't remember for sure) I will be watching them instead. Bottom line is, I watch WWE for wrestling, not shitty written and poorly acted soap operas.

Horrible news. Now both Paul London and Juventud are fucked, specially London who was starting to use his London Calling SSP again after Kidman left. IIRC he dropped the 450 'cause Juventud started using it, too. There goes the "Most Beautiful Finish Move in WWE" (according to Michael Cole.)

Fuck. I'm not too excited about Spanky and Noble back in WWE now since everyone in the Cruiserweight division is going to be wrestling even more like junior heavyweights.

BTW, Steve Romero should definitely not say anything about "high-flying action" now if NO ONE in the Cruiserweight division is going to be allowed to do top rope moves anymore.

So will this affect RVD's frogsplash as well? Or just the lil dudes?

The following top ropes are the only legal ones:

Flying elbow drop

Moonsault

Flying axhandle

Flying clothesline

Naturally, cruisers won't be able to do the first two moves, though, becuase they're trademarks of HBK. :P

Actually, it may be just be the Flying axehandle, because the Flying clothesline is a trademark of Kane's/Shelton Benjamin's.

Can Psicosis use his top rop legdrop or will Hogan suprise the world at Summerslam when he uses it on HBK?

If Hogan did it, he'd break his new hip for sure. Still, I don't see WWE allowing Psicosis doing the Guillotine Legdrop anymore due to WWE's recent bullshit of toning down the high-flying moves even more except for certain wrestlers.

Basic top rope stuff isn't banned. Only the 450 and shooting star if you believe this. With Kidman gone I can't recall much of anyone using the 2nd anyway, unless London does it too.

I think the final straw might have been when Juvi did the 450 and nearly killed London on Smackdown.

That said, it's always awful to ban people's moves. It reeks of 1992 Bill Watts era WCW, where they banned the top rope all together.

*waits for the news report stating that Vince has banned anyone from being tossed over the top rope, and if they do it's an automatic DQ*

And yet they have no problem with Chris Benoit doing a flying headbutt with a surgically repaired neck....

a] He knows how to do the move properly so that he lands on his chest/arms and not his head when connecting, and b] it's not like he's injuring other wrestlers left, right and center with it.

Maybe so, but most fans associate cruisers with highspots, and without those or having characters, they won't be getting over.

Well, that's a subjective opinion.

Toning down highspots doesn't mean that they can't do them anymore. If anything, I'd find it more interesting and "special" if they saved high risk spots for certain occaisions. After seeing a frigging highspot a hundred matches in a row, it kind of loses its lustre.

If this is true, it's a real shame that London is getting punished because Kidman and Juvy fucked up their moves. I've never heard of any instance of London injuring anyone.

And a shooting star press isn't really a highspot, as such. It's a finisher that pops the crowd, as they all should.

Does anyone know if London has anything else he can use as a finisher?

He was using the Dragon Suplex earlier this year right after he became "Futuristic Caveman Jimmy Jacobs rip-off" Paul London in a Cruiserweight Elimination match on a Smackdown PPV.

The sad thing is it'll be rare to see anymore in WWE with Vince being so cautious about high-risk moves getting wrestlers "injured often" now. Of course, Vince toned down head-dropping moves a while back, which is why I only saw Chris Benoit using a Dragon Suplex against Regal on Velocity not too long ago, but within the past few years, Benoit hadn't even used it.

I thought that Dragon Suplexes were banned a while ago, being that they affect the neck area and such, but Paul London's used it a couple of times this year, even on PPV, and Benoit used one recently as well. In fact, execpt for the Regal match, Benoit hasn't used one since actually debuting the move on WWE against Jericho on PPV on 2000 (SummerSlam?) Feel free to correct me on this.

Ditto for overhead suplexes, but Kurt Angle's been using them pretty often.

I remember the overhead suplex banning. Wasn't this around when Steiner just came in?

I remember London had a nice move where he would underhook the arms like a Tiger suplex, lift the opponent up, and then sit out and drop them on their face. I think it was called the Waffleface or something. That could work for a finish,

I think Benoit might have given a Dragon Suplex to Angle in the Wrestlemania 2000 Triple Threat Double Title match with Jericho in it and accidentally injured Angle's neck a little from what I read a while back.

I think you're right. I was there live and forgot all about it. I guess those were the only two times Benoit used the move in WWE/F before the Heat match?
