Guest Biggles Report post Posted August 10, 2005 Eddie Guerrero’s quest to take back his biological son Dominick will continue as SmackDown! visits Columbus, Ohio. Last week, Guerrero presented Rey Mysterio with custody papers, and with an attorney by his side, demanded that Mysterio bring Dominick to the arena so he could take him home. Emotions figure to continue to run high during this very personal grudge. Meanwhile, World Heavyweight Champion Batista will be Christian's guest on the Peep Show. Batista is defending the World Heavyweight Championship against JBL in a No Holds Barred Match at SummerSlam. Also, in singles action, Booker T takes on Joey Mercury. And The Legend Killer Randy Orton returns to the ring.
Just John 0 Report post Posted August 10, 2005 The match listing sounds decent this week. Why isn't the new CW champ wrestling on SD, though? I know WWE doesn't care about that division at all, but you'd think Nunzio would get one A-show title defense before going back to Velocity.

MarvinisaLunatic 0 Report post Posted August 11, 2005 The First Friday Smackdown is 9/9, Smackdown's Season Premiere. Just a tidbit of info.
Guest Y2DAYDAY Report post Posted August 11, 2005 Yeah, they have 30 days to figure out something for this brand to catch fire for Friday nights or they may drown in that timeslot. Ultimately, if they have a hot enough product, they'll be fine. If not, that may be a different story. I still cannot believe everyone is shocked that most of the top players with stroke are on RAW, which is moving to a better network and is clearly the A-Show as opposed to Smackdown, which is getting a lesser time slot/day and is the B-Show. For RAW, you knew HBK, HHH, and Edge were not going anywhere. You had to know they wanted Cena, the top dog right now, on the top show. Funny how Kurt Angle requested to move to RAW, a RAW overcrowded with top heels just to be on the big show. Notice Hulk Hogan didn't return to Smackdown. Orton had to go to get out of HHH's shadow as a heel, Batista was done with HHH and Cena came over so he had to go, Benoit had to go as well since Angle was going to RAW. JBL and Taker are content with where they are on Smackdown. Think about this. On Raw, they have HHH, Ric Flair, RVD, Trish Stratus all not back until October. They did TV this week without Kane and Big Show plus the above 4. That is almost as many top names NOT on RAW that they have total on Smackdown.

Hunter's Torn Quad 0 Report post Posted August 11, 2005 I'm pretty sure if asked, JBL would go to Raw in a heartbeat. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> I wouldn't be so sure. With the lack of depth of marketable talent, or names that creative are willing or able to push, the very worst JBL would be is the number two heel, though he'd likely be the number one heel. On Raw, with Angle, Edge and Carlito getting heel pushes, and Hunter going to resume his monster push when he comes back, JBL would be the number two heel at best, and the number five heel at worst. He's the top dog on Smackdown, and will be for a very long time it seems, and I don't think he'd be willing to give up such a secure position, even if SD is considered the inferior brand internally. USC Wuz Robbed! 0 Report post Posted August 11, 2005 HTQ, not to throw it in your face, but aren't they there to make money? I would think Raw is more secure financially. JBL would be part of the A-show, which guarantees better buyrates, higher ratings, etc. Not to mention SD is dangerously close to being sucked into a vacuum. JBL would be part of the A-show, which guarantees better buyrates, higher ratings, etc. Not to mention SD is dangerously close to being sucked into a vacuum. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Raw is more secure financially, but with many more marketable/pushed names on Raw on the heel side, the payoffs at the top have to be divided between more people. While the SD brand might not draw the level of money that Raw does, the lack of top level heels means the top level payoffs don't have to be divided between so many people. There is also the security that comes with your position at the top being virtually locked in stone. On Raw, any one of the pushed heels could be moved up the ladder, and then JBL would move down. On SD, with the possible exception of Randy Orton, there is nobody there to move up and force JBL to move down, and thus make him lose out on payoffs. JBL might be able to get more money, in the short term, on Raw, but long term, he's better of on SD where the payoffs might not be as rich, but he's got a better chance of getting the biggest payoffs. USC Wuz Robbed! 0 Report post Posted August 11, 2005 Ok thanks for explaining it. I just assumed that anyone on SD would prefer to be on a show thats guaranteed to be around next year (Raw) than one that could be cancelled.

After that, while anything is possible, it's most likely that SD will move to somewhere else.
Dangerous A 0 Report post Posted August 11, 2005 I heard a rumor that Eddie/Rey was going to be a ladder match, possibly with Dominick custody papers above the ring or something. While I hate this feud now with a passion and want it to end soon, they definitely need a stip to spice it up since all their matches have now been straight up. It's not the worst idea, as at least on that show, it receives some focus.
Just John 0 Report post Posted August 11, 2005 I just thought they'd like the majority of the SD brand viewers to know that a title (won't say major title) changed hands. Hopefully he at least gets a promo or something. If this title change goes unacknowledged on the A-show, I'll go on record and say that this is officially the lowest point of CW wrestling since before WCW brought the CW title into play in 1996. Just put him in a potato sack and hang it above the ring on a meat hook. If we can have a "Judy Bagwell on a Pole" match, we can have this.

They're using the belt on Velocity where the guys who are competing for it actually get showcase what they can do a lot more then they would on SD itself. Look at the last few CW matches on SD, every single one of them has been interrupted. Also what would be the point in introducing a CW feud for the SS card at this point? It would get lost in the shuffle and be burried on the card itself. Personally I'd be happier if they let the angle continue to play out on Velocity for now and then promoted it up to SD in time for the next SD only PPV.
