This team wasn't nearly as good as they've been playing, nor were they nearly as bad as they were at the beginning of the season. This is an 88 win team most likely, which is not bad at all but not a playoff team. Their offense played way over their heads for two months and they've come back down to earth. They have an absolutely brutal stretch coming up as I pointed out. The odds are heavily stacked against them to win the Wild Card as the Yankees and Indians have much more favorable schedules. They did play on the road during their hot stretch but during the Macha Era they have been a very mediocre team on the road. They go 4-2 and gain a game on the Wild Card, which they're now three out of. The upcoming road trip would be a pretty good time to snap out of their habit of playing horribly when away from Shea. It's just setting in on me that I (and about 20,000 other Cub fans) flew 1,200 miles to see them play and pretty much give up the season by dropping the series to the ROCKIES. Horrible. Also consider that their two best players are in AAA right now (BJ Upton and Delmon Young) and their "star" is out for the year with an injury (Baldelli).
