This Week in Baseball

=)

Woodward wins the game in the bottom of the tenth with an RBI Single. Mets are two games out of the Wild Card.

Still doesn't excuse what happened.

Graves better be chased out of town before the Mets are done with the season.

Agreed. Incompetent as he is, however, Koo, Heilman and Looper all share part of the blame.

Going to the 9th in Oakland, still 2-1 Royals. Was what happened in June and July all a dream? I mean this team couldn't have been that good.

A's have been a vastly superior team at home in the last few years. This current collapse is happening at home. They play 20 out of next 26 on the road (three at home against the Yankees in that stretch) after this weekend. It's over.

For the love of god Bored. Your team had a .322 winning percentage on Memorial Day. They put together one of the best runs in baseball history, and you're writing them off after one shaky week? What the hell kind of fan are you? This is Anglesault-bad.

Bring him back on the day the Yankees get mathematically eliminated. PLEASE.

Whatever, I'm just being realistic. This team wasn't nearly as good as they've been playing, nor were they nearly as bad as they were at the beginning of the season. This is an 88 win team most likely, which is not bad at all but not a playoff team. Their offense played way over their heads for two months and they've come back down to earth. They have an absolutely brutal stretch coming up as I pointed out. The odds are heavily stacked against them to win the Wild Card as the Yankees and Indians have much more favorable schedules. They did play on the road during their hot stretch but during the Macha Era they have been a very mediocre team on the road. Hey I hope they prove me wrong and the division still isn't out of the question if they do well against the Angels head-to-head.

The Jays are getting their asses handed to them. 15-0 Detroit and 12 of those runs are Dustin McGowan 'taking one for the team'. Fuck.

EDIT: Now it's 15-3 in the 7th off homers from Koskie and Hinske. Comeback!

Jason Vargas (rookie) threw a CG, 1 run effort for the Marlins today. Fourth reliable pitcher? He's 4-1.

Great surprise, he was just drafted last year. I figured Olson would succeed in the bigs before Vargas.

Well, kind of a disappointing end to the homestand, but not a bad one overall for the Mets. They go 4-2 and gain a game on the Wild Card, which they're now three out of.

The upcoming road trip would be a pretty good time to snap out of their habit of playing horribly when away from Shea. Neither the Diamondbacks or the Giants are terribly challenging teams.

Ok, but Kent is cancelled out by Werth's awful average, Bradley's awful attitude and saying "As long as I'm black, I'm fine", our awful bullpen, stupid Duaner Sanchez, and Jose Cruz.

I've never seen a game turn to shit so fast. It took him about 10 pitches to give them 6 runs.

A's lose to the Royals again, concluding a horrific 4-8 homestand. Oh boy get those playoff tickets now! If the manage to go .500 over the brutal 26 game stretch it'll be a miracle.

I just got home from the airport and wanted to say that I'm really, really fucking annoyed with the Cubs. It's just setting in on me that I (and about 20,000 other Cub fans) flew 1,200 miles to see them play and pretty much give up the season by dropping the series to the ROCKIES.

Horrible.

Hey guys, don't look now but the D-Rays have the 3rd best record in all of baseball since the All-Star break.

Also consider that their two best players are in AAA right now (BJ Upton and Delmon Young) and their "star" is out for the year with an injury (Baldelli).

I'm telling you, if they signed one marquee pitcher they could put together a flash in the pan season next year.
