Hogan/Michaels Backstage gossip

Recommended Posts

My problem with Shawn Michaels in 1996 had a lot more to do with his character than any particular problem in the ring.  Shawn Michaels first got over by playing the arrogant underdog heel who ended up becoming sympathetic because of it.  At a time where there were wrestlers like Lex Luger who were the same stale babyfaces and cowardly heels, Shawn was someone who would talk shit and then either back it up or die or trying.  This especially started to catch on in 1995 where he had the advantage of feuding with Diesel, one of the biggest failures as WWF Champion in history and Shawn was thus able to get a lot of cheers a bit easier.  Regardless, he turned face after Wrestlemania XI and pretty much played the same dick as before only now he was a face.  Watch Shawn & Jarrett trying to one up each other at IYH II or Shawn dicking around at KOTR 95 for examples.  But once they decided to give him the title at Wrestlemania XII they completely changed his character to this stupid 'lifelong dream to win the WWF Title' thing and nobody bought it for a second because it was completely phony to believe that the Shawn Michaels character that people had been cheering for the past year would behave like that.  It would be like having Austin come out before Wrestlemania XIV and say that maybe Vince isn't such a bad guy after all and hugs him.  It was a complete violation of Shawn's character and it ruined his face run right out of the gates.  They turned him into the exact same stale babyface character that fans were sick of.  He continued to play this character until Survivor Series when his reign limped to a conclusion by him getting booed out of the building against Sid.  Maybe if the marine thing never happened he would have been booked differently.  I don't know.  But the WWF, and possibly Shawn himself if he was pushing for the change, really screwed that up.

It didn't help that they portrayed him as a pretty boy type that the women were all over. That type of persona is a huge turn-off for male fans, who are a big part of the wrestling demographic.

Hogan is fine as far as the occasional special attraction like at SS. But I dunno if I want him in there with the younger guys all that much. I was fine with him vs. Austin at WM since that's two old guys in a dream match. Cena/Hogan isn't anyone's dream match because quite honestly Cena isn't that big of a star at this point

I'd rather see Hogan / Orton at Mania if they can't book Austin / Hogan. Randy would kill the biggest legend of them all!

Wasn't Shawn still saying he had nothing to do with the screwjob in Montreal in that shoot interview and then a few years later reveals on Confidential that he was in on it the whole time?

A legend that was already killed by Brock? Rock? Angle?

Best joke I've heard all day. If Orton couldn't get the 'W' over Undertaker at 'Mania when it made sense to, and HBK couldn't beat Hogan at SS, there's not a chance in hell Randy would get a victory over Hogan at 'Mania. Although, I'd like to see that match just because I hate Orton enough to enjoy his defeats on the big stage. It's a moot point though, since Hogan's smart enough to know that Orton's not a big enough player, especially when he could easily try to lobby for a match with Austin or Cena instead.

Well he is running out of names to add to the back of his T-Shirt.

I'm pretty sure both Cena and Batista are going to stay in the respective Mania slots.

For RAW, I see Cena / HHH of course and for SD, I see Lesnar / Batista. I don't see Batista / Orton at Mania since I'm guessing its going to be No Mercy's main event this year. Although Randy chasing the title again is a sure possibility, but its too funny seeing Batista chasing Orton for the belt.

No, once Batista drops the belt, his heat vanishes. If Brock doesn't come back by Mania, I can absolutely see them switch it to Orton, and that effectively means BYE BYE to Batista as the champion, much like Benoit...

QUOTE(snuffbox @ Aug 25 2005, 01:28 PM)

You might not want to base all your opinions on Shawn's RF shoot...

You mean he believed that bullshit?

I don't base all my opinions on Shawn's RF Video Shoot. Please don't make assumptions about me.

Anyway, I don't care much at all to see Cena face Hogan. I'd much rather they build up Orton to the point where a Hogan-Orton match would seem special.

Who do you see facing Orton then?

I don't know because plans do change all the time. Remember Orton was the guy to face Hunter at Mania this year? Did he? No.

He was also meant to face Hunter at WM 20.

I remember that. God they were real ambitious with that goal. Luckily it didn't pan out.

Even though they're on seperate shows (I'm sure they would find a way to), I wouldn't mind seeing Cena / Orton.

No kidding. I want to witness the conversation where Vince asks Hogan to job to the son of Roddy Piper's bitch.

"Ok Vince brother, I'll put the little Randy dude over. But first I should pin him with a fast count..."

Yeah, I think that's definitely true. The reason I and most of my friends circa 95 became fans of his was because of his cocky/cool/arrogant approach to his matches. I used to love how he'd fuck around with his opponents during his matches (like one time he was facing I think Barry Horowitz and in the middle of the match he jumped into the crowd and just started relaxing in the front row) and for the most part he'd actually be able to get away with it. In 95, he was funny and came off genuinely cool IMO, but once he got the belt and they cast him as the humble babyface, although I remained a fan, he just didn't have the same appeal. The same thing happened to the Rock in his 2000-01 run to a lesser extent.

He did the jump in the crowd and relax spot vs Bundy in a KOTR qualifier IIRC

All I know is Shawn Michales = Wrestler of the year 2005.

Also, am I the only one who thinks that, besides being the jerk he was backsatge, that Michaels kept WWE from dieing in 1996?

You know, Nash, Hall and Hart were all absent during his reign, WWE roster was piss poor, and WCW had the revolutionary NWO angle going on.

So isn't it a bit logical to say that even though he was a total cock behind the scenes, and had a gimmick that almost entirely targeted the female demograph, that Shawn Michales saved Vince's ship from sinking?
