World's Worst Man 0 Report post Posted September 5, 2005 Alright, I needs me some good female vocal metal. I guess in the same vein as a Leaves' Eyes, Within Temptation, Penumbra, etc. I actually really dig this song from an episode of NJPW on Samurai TV, but I can't get a sample as it's on DVD and I dont really want to rip the whole thing just to get that sample. It's the January 29 show, just in case there's a miniscule chance that any metal fans also happen to be puroresu fans and own that show
phoenixrising 0 Report post Posted September 5, 2005 Lacuna Coil
Carnival 0 Report post Posted September 5, 2005 Arch Enemy(heavy, growls), Otep(super heavy, growls), Nightwish(Opera-esque vocals), Tapping the Vein(Less heavy, probably not really metal).
Corey_Lazarus 0 Report post Posted September 5, 2005 That's okay, Otep isn't metal either. I can't believe that bitch calls her stuff poetry...because it's one step below Limp Bizkit. Seriously. When Fred Durst can write a better song about ANYTHING than you can, you should call it quits. Well, I'm not too into the gothic metal stuff, but give Theatre of Tragedy a try if you're into it. The earlier stuff is heavy, slow, and soothing while brutal, but they're more recent work is a lot more dance-y.
DCMaximo 0 Report post Posted September 5, 2005 Nightwish are pretty good at the whole female-goth rock thing, but Lacuna Coil are pretty much the best in the genre
Guest Euronymous Report post Posted September 5, 2005 How 'bout Tristania, Draconian and After Forever (although they've all got male vocals as well)? Oh, and Epica.

Carnival 0 Report post Posted September 5, 2005 Nightwish is what I meant by Switchblade Symphony. Sorry, I'm not up on these bands really, they are all more my girlfriends territory. I fixed it in my post. Here are some more. Drain STH, Crisis, L7, I have no clue who these peeps are.

World's Worst Man 0 Report post Posted September 6, 2005 Thanks for the suggestions. I'm really digging the symphonic/melodic metal with female vocalists lately. I'd recommend Penumbra for anyone who likes that symphonic/opera-esque metal stuff. Really good stuff. Leaves' Eyes same deal, although it's a fair bit softer than Penumbra. Hawkius Maximus 0 Report post Posted September 6, 2005 Honest question, and I don't mean to derail this subject...but why do people prefer Lacuna Coil over Nightwish? I got into Coil first, but while the two female singers from their respective bands are pretty close, the male lead in Coil just ruins songs for me. I've got Coil's Comalies album, and a few other songs...should I just look deeper into them? On the other hand, I have a couple Nightwish albums, and while the male vocals can be sketchy at times the ones on Once are pretty damn good.

Nightwish's music never grabbed me, as there melodies didn't seem all that good. I did like Lacuna Coil for a while, but their music didn't age well for me. Ironically, the same thing is happening to me with regards to Within Temptation, although there are still a few of their songs that I like. Edit: I definitely agree about Lacuna Coil's male vocalist. Hawkius Maximus 0 Report post Posted September 6, 2005 Nightwish lives or dies with Tarja really. Take away her, and the band isn't half as good. Although the male vocalist has his moments, no way would I even download a band with just him singing. My problem with Coil, is from what I've heard...70% of the song is his singing. Which suuuucks. Slayer 0 Report post Posted September 6, 2005 I've never understood Lacuna Coil either. Every time I try to go back and listen to them (as it's not uncommon for me to continually re-evaluate a band every couple of years) I don't get why they're so popular in the metal world. Nightwish still rocks, although I'm disappointed that Tarja's been cutting back on the operatic vocals in favor of standard singing. Hell, truth be told, with the exception of Nightwish and Gathering's first two with Anneke, I don't listen to much female fronted metal, though I love gothic metal (Paradise Lost, My Dying Bride and Candlemass are among my favorite bands) but mostly male-fronted bands. (well, there's also Doro Pesch, but most metalheads seem to forget about her)
stahl 0 Report post Posted September 6, 2005 Sinergy is a good female fronted power metal band and Oratory is a very unknown band that does a neo classical and melodic style.

Guest J0bber Report post Posted September 6, 2005 As both a rap metal and death metal fan, I will admit that Otep is a very sad vocalist. Her voice is whiny, her raps are annoying, and her growls suck. Not to mention she is an ugly lesbo.
Red Baron 0 Report post Posted September 7, 2005 Why are you guys even mentioning Otep as a recommendation.
Corey_Lazarus 0 Report post Posted September 7, 2005 Only one person has, and we already got on his case for it. My hatred for Otep runs deep, as not only is she hyped as some sort of amazing poet when her lyrics are fucking terrible and something a doped-up angry 14-year-old would write, but the music itself is cringe-inducing. That, and a few people that I really fucking hate love Otep.
NoCalMike 0 Report post Posted September 7, 2005 Sinister's newer stuff is female-fronted. Pretty Good too. They broke up in 2004, but announced they are coming back.... The lead singer is named Rachel Klootserward, and an MP3 of her other band "Infinate Hate" can be found here.... I dare you to saythis sounds female....... http://www.displeasedrecords.com/mp3/infhate2.mp3
Carnival 0 Report post Posted September 7, 2005 I agree that Otep is pretty gay. I like 3 songs (Warhead, Blood Pigs, (Unclean) Filthee.) I saw them in concert last year. Her constant whining and "poetry" crap was pissing me off, I was like "Just play warhead so i can fucking leave." I can't say I actually like any of the bands i mentioned, I like a few songs from people, but metal really isn't my scene.

Hawkius Maximus 0 Report post Posted September 8, 2005 If it's the NJPW thing you mentioned earlier, it IS Nightwish, and it's the song "FantasMic" from what I know...I don't watch NJPW, but I found how about the particular song from another friend who watches NJPW. ...As for WHY it's used by NJPW, I have no fucking clue at all. It's not even near Nightwish's best songs. Shit like 10th Man Down, Over the Hills and Far Away and such just blow Fantasmic out of the water so bad it's not even funny. Fantasmic is also Eight minutes long... In general, I gravitate towards female singers for metal in either Japanese or English. I just prefer listening to a female sing then a man. EDIT: WHOOOA I was wrong. This is NOT Fantasmic. It's Ghost Love Score, from Once.
World's Worst Man 0 Report post Posted September 8, 2005 Wow, I never would have guessed. The few Nightwish songs I have heard sounded nothing like that. Thanks for the help guys.
Coffin Surfer 0 Report post Posted September 9, 2005 Eh, Nightwish and Lacuna Coil really aren't goth metal. At least the early work that I'm familiar with. Goth Metal would be something like Thine-In Therapy.
Slayer 0 Report post Posted September 9, 2005 NJPW has really good taste in music. I know they've had Royal Hunt compose several themes for them in the past
