Michrome 0 Report post Posted September 8, 2005 I agree with Joe that a long dramatic fight for the ropes is counterproductive. People can make the ropes, but quick tapouts and quick passouts make for a great response whenever he locks it on. Joe is very good about protecting his moves, and it will pay off in the long run in big matches. I think his next step in TNA should be establishing other finishers. Maybe Daniels will be the first to break the Clutch, and then Joe could introduce the Chimera suplex to beat him.
Corey_Lazarus 0 Report post Posted September 9, 2005 Daniels being the first to break the Clutch would be good. But I think, MAYBE, that they should do somewhat the same thing that ECW did with the Tazmission: build it up that NOBODY can get out of it or block it for a long time, maybe even a year, and then...somebody sees it coming and blocks it. I could see somebody punching Joe in the head a few times, or even raking his eyes, if they locked it on them to get out, or if it was a no DQ match and he locked it on while they had a chair in their hand, just smack him with the chair to break it. A good way to REALLY put it over, IMO, would be have him lock it onto somebody that's in a stable during a face-to-face confrontation, or something, and the whole stable starts beating on Joe to break the hold...but he keeps it on until somebody really NAILS him with something. Now that his stance has been explained to me, I wholeheartedly agree.
Rendclaw 0 Report post Posted September 9, 2005 I'm glad that some others see what I saw in that ID match, in that Joe has the moveset and attitude to be like Taz was in ECW circa 96-98. Fucking badass with a killer moveset, and almost killing guys with his submissions. I think I became a mark for him during that match with Sabin, though his stuff against Low-Ki in ROH originally turned me on to him.
Ripper 0 Report post Posted September 9, 2005 I love his matches with Low Ki. I always throw one on for the "wrestling is fake" people and I use this to demostrate, that yes, they know who is going to win, but THAT shit hurts. he just knows its coming. Rendclaw 0 Report post Posted September 9, 2005 I only have two of those, and I need to find more. As soon as I have the time, I'm going to make that HCTP CAW of him.
Spaceman Spiff 0 Report post Posted September 10, 2005 Hey, you're lucky The 3 Comcast OnDemand matches I have now are: Skipper/Daniels Daniels/Shane/Sabin 20-Man #1 Contender's Gauntlet (Abyss/Killings final two) <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Huh, I'm in the Philly market, and we have those 3 plus Joe/Sabin. Corey_Lazarus 0 Report post Posted September 10, 2005 I rewatched Joe/Sabin a couple times. I noticed the offense from Sabin became more and more apparent, albeit pretty redundant (constant dropkicks, really) though that worked best in the match, and I'm still LOVING Joe's psychology of attacking mostly the head and neck. All but 3 or 4 moves done by Joe were to Sabin's head/neck, and the finish was a move that affects both the neck and his ability to breathe, so it made perfect sense. Rendclaw 0 Report post Posted September 10, 2005 Considering the size and strength advantage that Joe has over Sabin, I would think that he would stick to what works, which would be dropkicks and strikes to wear the big man down a bit... That match had excellent psychology, and Joe is showing more than just a guy that merely uses his size and strength, he showed agility and quickness too. cameron chaos 0 Report post Posted September 12, 2005 Give a well applied RNC will make someone pass out within about 8-10 seconds, it would make little sense to have anyone struggle for the ropes unless they passed out an inch or so from reaching them a la Austin/Hart. Add in the fact Joe is no cruiserweight and as such can control his opponent because of his weight, I think it's a very credible finisher. Just ask Frank Trigg.
