SuperJerk 0 Report post Posted September 26, 2005 "Liberals don't hesitate in pushing their extremist ideology," says DeBrecht, the mother of three and a co-captain of her state's Security Moms for Bush. In support of her point, DeBrecht asserts that as soon as New Orleans' levees burst liberals set out to exploit the tragedy. The co-captain of Security Moms for Bush is upset someone exploited a tragedy for political gain? Sweet Jesus, the irony. "As crass as they have been in exploiting the tragedy in the Gulf Coast," adds DeBrecht, "they have been equally aggressive in exploiting America's children. From pro-socialist stories like 'Rainbow Fish' to attacks on traditional values like 'King & King,' liberals have been pushing books with their extremist philosophy into our classrooms and school libraries unabated for years. Conservative parents have to do what they can to make sure their kids hear the other side of the story." Okay, I can understand her getting pissed about the pro-gay King and King...but Rainbow Fish is socialistic???? RAINBOW FISH???? Is there really a part of that book that advocates government control of the means of production?

Is there really a part of that book that advocates government control of the means of production? <{POST_SNAPBACK}> I don't even want to know what they say about The Giving Tree. I don't know about socialism, but it does kind of send the message that you have to be like everybody else to be accepted, that if you're better than everyone else, you run the risk of being ostracized for your superiority, be it real or imagined. I think the intended message was probably more along the lines of "share your Koala Yummies with your table partners at snack time" rather than "conform or be cast out;" we're all just over-analyzing a children's book, probably. Big Ol' Smitty 0 Report post Posted September 26, 2005 New article about Pat Tillman... http://sfgate.com/cgi-bin/article.cgi?f=/c...MNGD7ETMNM1.DTL Interviews also show a side of Pat Tillman not widely known — a fiercely independent thinker who enlisted, fought and died in service to his country yet was critical of President Bush and opposed the war in Iraq, where he served a tour of duty. He was an avid reader whose interests ranged from history books on World War II and Winston Churchill to works of leftist Noam Chomsky, a favorite author. Baer, who served with Tillman for more than a year in Iraq and Afghanistan, told one anecdote that took place during the March 2003 invasion as the Rangers moved up through southern Iraq. "I can see it like a movie screen," Baer said. "We were outside of (a city in southern Iraq) watching as bombs were dropping on the town. We were at an old air base, me, Kevin and Pat, we weren't in the fight right then. We were talking. And Pat said, `You know, this war is so f-- illegal.' And we all said, `Yeah.' That's who he was. He totally was against Bush." Another soldier in the platoon, who asked not to be identified, said Pat urged him to vote for Bush's Democratic opponent in the 2004 election, Sen. John Kerry. Tillman’s death came at a sensitive time for the Bush administration — just a week before the Army’s abuse of prisoners at Abu Ghraib in Iraq became public and sparked a huge scandal. The Pentagon immediately announced that Tillman had died heroically in combat with the enemy, and President Bush hailed him as “an inspiration on and off the football field, as with all who made the ultimate sacrifice in the war on terror.” His killing was widely reported by the media, including conservative commentators such as Ann Coulter, who called him “an American original — virtuous, pure and masculine like only an American male can be.” His May 3, 2004, memorial in San Jose drew 3,500 people and was nationally televised. Not until five weeks later, as Tillman’s battalion was returning home, did officials inform the public and the Tillman family that he had been killed by his fellow soldiers. Mary Tillman said a friend of Pat’s even arranged a private meeting with Chomsky, the antiwar author, to take place after his return from Afghanistan — a meeting prevented by his death. She said that although he supported the Afghan war, believing it justified by the Sept. 11 attacks, “Pat was very critical of the whole Iraq war.” Yep, that sound you just heard was Ann Coulter's head exploding. My point, though, was to challenge this ignorant woman's abuse of the word socialism. Actually, I'm fairly irritated, in general, by certain people's total ignorance about what socialism actually is. Sharing is not socialism. Conforming is not socialism. Government control of industry is socialism.

Mr. S£im Citrus 0 Report post Posted October 17, 2005 I am somewhat surprised to see no mention of this here: KATU.com: Rep. Kelley Wirth says she will resign November 15 Wirth was cited Thursday for possession of what Salem police said was a small amount of methamphatamine found in her car. What struck me most about this was to see it juxtapose to this: Wirth has been a frequent target of criticism for missing floor votes and committee meetings during legislative sessions. She also raised eyebrows when she cast the only "no" vote in the House on a bill to toughen penalties for methamphetamine-related crimes. Curiouser and curiouser... Big Ol' Smitty 0 Report post Posted October 19, 2005 White House Watch: Cheney resignation rumors fly Sparked by today's Washington Post story that suggests Vice President Cheney's office is involved in the Plame-CIA spy link investigation, government officials and advisers passed around rumors that the vice president might step aside and that President Bush would elevate Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice. "It's certainly an interesting but I still think highly doubtful scenario," said a Bush insider. "And if that should happen," added the official, "there will undoubtedly be those who believe the whole thing was orchestrated – another brilliant Machiavellian move by the VP." Said another Bush associate of the rumor, "Yes. This is not good." The rumor spread so fast that some Republicans by late morning were already drawing up reasons why Rice couldn't get the job or run for president in 2008. "Isn't she pro-choice?" asked a key Senate Republican aide. Many White House insiders, however, said the Post story and reports that the investigation was coming to a close had officials instead more focused on who would be dragged into the affair and if top aides would be indicted and forced to resign. "Folks on the inside and near inside are holding their breath and wondering what's next," said a Bush adviser. But, he added, they aren't focused on the future of the vice president. "Not that, at least not seriously," he said. http://www.usnews.com/usnews/news/articles...8/18whwatch.htm Oh yeah, and it's official...
