RavishingRickRudo 0 Report post Posted January 11, 2006 Hey, reading my last post (before my shameless admission of self gratification to... clinch... knees... oh GOD, here WE GO AGAIN!!) *40 seconds later* Ok, whew, I, um, I got season 5 on DVD. The commentary ain't bad, it appears Amy SP leaves the commentary about 30 minutes in and they don't really acknowledge it (her and her husband did it). I am rewatching episodes now and the season is moon rocks. I don't know how I was able to watch Season 6 without having seen the last few episodes in season 5. Just great stuff. St. Gabe 0 Report post Posted January 11, 2006 Love the fact that Daniel palladino has such a role in Family Guy, too. 2 best written shows on TV. God, I love angry Lane. Great moment with the alcohol too. Rory on the couch was fantastic, looking forward to more of that. Love the Rory reactions to Logan, too. I hate that bastard. MARTY is the man for RORY, mark my words.
RavishingRickRudo 0 Report post Posted January 11, 2006 Marty was the sacrificial lamb in Rorys life. I love the way they used Marty to show that Rory has moved on from that type of guy, who was essentially like Dean but with Yale Education and less drama (which was basically the whole problem with Dean), and her removal from the old life and in to her new life and later-on her dissent. Family Guy and Gilmore Girls, could there be two shows related to each other that have no right to be related to each other?

I keep going back to the Yale Harvard game episode when Richard watches him walk away and says "I like that boy"
Guest wildpegasus Report post Posted January 12, 2006 I got a bad memory. Remember when Rory and Lorelai were sitting down at the table talking away and Rory mentions Lorelai getting caught in the endless circle of doubt? I don't know if I got that right anymore. Anyway, that was my favourite part of the episode.
RavishingRickRudo 0 Report post Posted January 13, 2006 Watching the Season 5 finale again, and goddamn does it kick ass. The scene with Rory and her Grandfather, with Herrmann doing some AWESOME emoting and I love how he was the one who changed his mind both times (with Rory staying with them, with Rory going back to Yale in S6). Lorelai proposing to Luke I was a lil mixed on, but now it makes perfect sense. At the time, _everyone_ was against her, she couldn't rely on Rory, or her Grandparents, those closest to her turned on her - except Luke. Luke has always been there for Lorelai and at the time he was the only one agreeing with her on the Rory situation.
RavishingRickRudo 0 Report post Posted January 18, 2006 "Welcome to the SH, BITCH!" Fuck yeah. NO! Why must they mess up Luke and Lorelai?! This is too much. Too damn much.
Guest wildpegasus Report post Posted January 18, 2006 How could I forget this? I even had my tape out and everything. RavishingRickRudo 0 Report post Posted January 22, 2006 So yesterday I bought Gilmore Girls Season 1 on DVD. This means nothing to all of you, but it's the first series I own completely on DVD, and I have been holding back on GGS1 until I finish 2-5. Why? I like the feeling of having something "left" to watch, rather than seeing everything in one fell swoop. I finished off GGS3 in, like, 2 days, and I didn't want to rush it so I held-off getting Season 1. So, join me please, in a escapade I like to call... Rudo Watches Gilmore Girls Season 1 Alrighty, Season 1, Episode 1, aptly titled "Pilot". The show opens with the "There she goes" song and already I am regretting buying season 1. You know what I said before? That's partially true. Half true, even. The other half of the truth is that I was reluctant to watch Season 1 because most first seasons suck and GG's ratings only started to pick up in Season 2, which suggests something bad about S1. It takes a while for a show to find itself, and GG was so good in Season 2 and consistent with their themes and characters that if S1 didn't hold up to the tremendous quality of 2-5, I would feel really sad. Not REALLY, but my perspective of the overall show would be lessened. Anywho, "There she goes" is such a cliched openning to the show and what's great about this show is that you expect one thing and get another. This is exactly what you'd expect. The sound effects in the diner are bad, but it's a pilot so I am forgiving. Luke looks different, younger, and Lorelai looks pretty much the same. The Diner is different, smaller, but that's because its the pilot and was shot in Toronto (Wut Wut! Halla Halla Halla Tdot). Rory comes in and sounds COMPLETELY DIFFERENT. Mindyou she has just said about 5 words and I paused it to write what I am writing right now, but she sounds so much older and not so mousie. And she looks older too. Man, this is weird. To be Cont. Cont (about 2 minutes later) So yeah, I am turned around. This is great. The dude that hits on Lorelai and then hits on Rory when Lorelais back is turned totally represents the average guy watching this show, in other words, wanting to fuck both of them and then being surprised they are mother and daughter, then still wanting to get both of them and backstepping when "she's 16" gets dropped. "You look way to young to be her mother". The Luke I know wouldn't have stood for that. So boo to you Luke Danes.
RavishingRickRudo 0 Report post Posted January 22, 2006 PART DEUX Richard is wearing a sweater. OH MY GOD WHY ARE THEY BASTARDIZING MY CHARACTERS! I generally hate watching the first of anything because they tend to be heavy on the exposition and try really hard to get the characters over in one episode that they tend to overdo it. This is the case here with most of the characters. The ones they hold back on are the ones that are better - Miss Patty, Luke, Richard and even Dean are not overbearing in their characters but say enough that you get who they are and you want to see more of them. Richard, in particular, is fucking awesome. He might be one of my all-time faves. Him handing Rory the paper, him falling asleep while Rory is having the big reveal about the Grandparents paying ofr Chilton and how much her mother sacrificed, and him talking about how tall Rory is... he's the fucking man. Michelle is also pretty consistant with who he is today. Dean is sooooo dreamy. Sookie, Lorelai, Rory and Emily go way overboard when they normally wouldn't. Lorelai is really sensitive and goes off to the kitchen and cries after a few cheap shots and generally isn't as snappy as she usually, Emily is uber-bitch, and Rory isn't Rory here. The quirks of the show aren't here either, but I am expecting them soon so I am not to worry. Sookie is annoying with her clumsyness and overthetop nature. I like Sookie for the most part, but here I don't. The exposition is insane. They pretty-much tell you EVERYTHING in this episode to the point of spelling it out and lay the format down for the next 6 seasons (Rory has boy problems, Lorelai and her parents fight). I have to give them credit for maximizing those 2 points and establishing the general themes in the first episode and never letting go for 6 years - I haven't seen a show do that, ever. The camera work is annoying. Way too many close-ups and its just not shot the way I'm used to. The music is also poorly used. Don't get me wrong, the pilot isn't that bad, but it's one of the lesser GG episodes that I've seen, maybe even the worst. But it's the pilot, very few are actually good. Gil Grissom in the pilot of CSI was a fucking goofball. Ok, there's a shot of Rory near the end reacting to Lorelai saying "Behold the healing powers of a bath" that pretty much sums up this episode. What a useless fucking shot. This episode wasn't made 6 years ago, it feels like it was made 60 years ago. Rory, though, is looking tremendous, especially in that blue sweater. Yowzas. How did Rory start off hot, then move down to being just cute in Season 2, and then slowly move back up to hot in Season 4? Edit: Ok, this is by-far the worst episode of GGs that I have ever seen. Luke: "Rory, please put down that cup of coffee, you do not want to grow up and be like your mom" Rory: "Sorry... too late" (awful delivery, btw, but who could blame her with such a hammy line) *Rory Smiles* *Lorelai Smiles* *Luke smirks and shakes his head* The show closes out like the openning theme closes out with the zoom out shot of Lukes diner. And there you have it, the first bad episode of Gilmore Girls that I have ever seen. Damn you Season 1, DAMN YOU TO HELL OR TO SEASON 1 OF GILMORE GIRLS! RavishingRickRudo 0 Report post Posted January 22, 2006 Eps. 2 is looking better, though it still is carrying some of the bad habits of Eps 1 over. BUT, I get to know what Lorelai and Rory are looking at in the jeep in the opening montage. Alright, all is forgiven Season 1. The second eps. is much better already. Lukes interaction with Lorelai was just what I needed and Luke looked like Luke. Season 1, Episode 1 you are still pure evil. TRISTAN~! Logan before there was a Logan. Stars Hallow has a population of 10,000? BULLSHIT. As a person who comes from a small town where there is maybe 500 people, 10,000 cannot possibly qualify as a small fucking town. RavishingRickRudo 0 Report post Posted January 23, 2006 It's amazing how they plant seeds in the first few episodes that pay off SEASONS later. Rory and Lorelai going to Europe in the end of Season 3 gets mentioned in Episode 3. And KIRK isn't Kirk yet. And there's lots of old people in this episode (Eps. 3). And topless Ed Herrmann. Alex Borstein is actually a regular at this point. Bizarre. They've mainly kept the same cast forever, so it's weird to see someone who gets dropped off. Ok, they just had an argument over their boobs. Jackson is so awesome in Season 1. Him discovering Sookie looking at other strawberries is great. Great, "we are family" is playing while Rory and Lorelai make up. Oh shit, Emily is the biggest bitch on television. Like, she's 1000x's worse than she is now... or even in Season 2. I'm so glad they made her a parody rather than stay along the line they were going here.
RavishingRickRudo 0 Report post Posted January 23, 2006 Episode 4: RORY GETS A D?!?!??!?! This is just WRONG. Why would they do such a thing?! This is a complete re-writing of history, here. Rory in Season 2 does not get D's, so how is it possible in Season 1 for her to get a D? There is no D in Wrong, but there is one in Wronged!
Guest Askewniverse Report post Posted January 23, 2006 Go back and check out Season 1, Episode 2. Specifically, the scene where two guys are at Lorelai's house to install a DSL line. Recognize "Mick?"
RavishingRickRudo 0 Report post Posted January 23, 2006 KIRK~! He shows up delivering the swans as well and he's not Kirk there either. Episode 4 has SAM ME-MOTHERFUCKING-DINA in it all pimped up and pimed out and pimpin on Lorelai. Fuck yeah. I liked Sam. I feel bad knowing that he gets his heart broken, but feel happy that it doesn't happen yet. Sooo charming. And I wonder if they consciously made Logan Rorys Uber-Boyfriend given the way Tristan acts, and how he also combines the sweetness of Dean and the booksmarts of Jess. I mean, the hair can't be a coincidence. Though we all know, even watching in Season 1 long before he arrives on the scene, that Finn is the one for Rory. RavishingRickRudo 0 Report post Posted January 24, 2006 Maury WITHOUT his glasses. More blasphemy. DEAN scares Rory. Soooo dreamy. Michell HATES the French. So awesome. Luke: Will you Marry Me? Lorelai: What? Luke: Just lookin for something to say to shut you up. Luke saving the party by bringing Ice. Lorelai hugging Luke for bringing the ice. Emily sees it and gets worried. Richard is an autumn. This sums it all up.
RavishingRickRudo 0 Report post Posted January 24, 2006 TAYLOR FUCKING DOOSE It's been, what, 6 episodes? Now all we need is Kirk and The Hallow is set, fuckaz. "NO TIP"???!!! CONTINUITY ERROR!!!!!!! AAAAAAAAAAAH!!!!!!!!!!! Luke says to Lorelai in Season 5 that it is incorrect to tip the proprietor of the establishment and in THIS episode he says... get this... "NO TIP?!" What the hell? DEAN CALLS IT POP
Guest wildpegasus Report post Posted January 25, 2006 Just watched the episode tonight where Richard Gilmore leaves the dollhouse on the step and Luke tries but can't lift it. So the question we are left with is: How did he get the dollhouse on the step? Richard Gilmore is a man's man. Man! I am impressed. Great ep tonight.
RavishingRickRudo 0 Report post Posted January 26, 2006 I am so fucking all about Season 1 right now. They're into the groove, everyone is there, the music at the end of the credits is the guitar playing, the lighting is better, the dialogue is better, the camera work is better, and they are toootally playing up the Luke and Lorelai storyline. The episode where Richard has his medical problems was what sent me over the fucking edge on this season. Rory was invited to the Christmas party at the Gilmores House for FND and Lorelai wasn't (after bitching out Emily when Rory was found sleeping at Miss Pattys with Dean and Emily basically called Rory a lil slut - which is about 4 Seasons too early), so Lorelai was all alone and had nothing to eat. So I'm all like "You gotta go to Lukes" and she fuckin does and I mark out because I'm aaaalllll about Luke Danes saving the day. So Luke makes her a Christmas Burger and I'm happy and then Lorelai gets a call from Rory telling her that Richard is in the hospital and Lorelai sorta has a meltdown. And who's there to save the fucking day? LUUUUKE DAAAANES. So I am all afuckingbout this now. Cause I can never, NEVER, get too much of Luke Danes rocking the house and kickin it. So yeah, this is Lukes break out from "Obsessive Health Freak Diner Owner" into "Blue Hat Wearin, Lorelai Day Savin, Taylor Bitchin Outer, King of the Fucking Town." I really wanted Lorelai to break down when she saw Richard in the hospital bed. But I was content enough to see Richard stunned that Lorelai had to see him like that. It was like this shared understanding of the situation. And then they had to fucking have everyone come in right before Lorelai says something. This show is pure evil. Tristan gettin up in Deans face was fabulous, Todd -the dude who Lane gets Rory to set her up with- needs to make a triumphant return, MAX MEDINA is still the man, and the scene where Rory has the picture of Lorelai and Christopher in her pocket when she sees Lorelai and Max together, and you get this sad look on her face, and you realize that she always wanted her real dad and Lorelai to get back together, it's like one of the best moments the show has done because it's so understated and heart-breaking. I can't wait for Christophers debut. Oh, and CASTING CONTINUITY ERROR!!! The waiter who waits on Sookie/Jacksons date is the guy who played Sookies old cookin buddy in Season 2. I like Rorys "No... Yes." schtick. And the "Poor Bunny" of this season has GOTSTA be from Sookie. They are sitting in the diner, Lorelai has skates, Luke offers to fix, clean and sharpen them, to Lorelais delight. Sookie then drops "Wow, you get really good service here". Which, has to be, the all-time most accurate and truthful quote that I have ever heard. A laufed and laufed and laufed after that one. And in Buffy and Seinfeld casting news, you get to see Whistler and Mr. Lipman respectively in Season 1.
RavishingRickRudo 0 Report post Posted January 27, 2006 Ok, like, seriously, the Luke and Lorelai stuff is pretty freakin heavy in Season 1. My god, the silent moments between the two. I am really surprised, cause they held off until the end of Season 4 to get them together. I almost think they forget about what happened in Season 1 just because it was so heavy. With that said, I can see Lorelai avoiding anything with Luke initially because of the shit with Max, and then she gets back together with Max and the whole marriage thing, and then she dates a few guys and forgets about Luke, and then Luke has that thing with that girl at the end of season 3/beginning of Season 4. RavishingRickRudo 0 Report post Posted January 27, 2006 CHRISTOPHER!!!!!!!!!!! The King is in the House, baby. Hey, is Taylor gay? Cause, like, he's not married and doesn't have kids. RavishingRickRudo 0 Report post Posted January 27, 2006 OH MY JESUS! RICHARD FUCKING GILMORE HANDLES HIS SHIT. How have I missed all this for so long?!
