Ripper Posted September 15, 2005 Report Posted September 15, 2005 I was discussing he X-cutioners song with someone the other day and I mentioned how it would have been alot better if Jae Lee wasn't busy making the X-Factor of the books SUCK. They disagreed, saying they liked his style and I couldn't understand for the life of me what there is to like about it. \ Am I alone in the belief that this guy sucks? What am I missing if I am? Did he get better or something?
Black Lushus Posted September 15, 2005 Report Posted September 15, 2005 I have the X-cutioner's Song GN and, yeah, I don't care for Jae Lee...of course I also dug a lot of Wilce Portacio's stuff, which gets knocked a lot...one guy I definently hated was Rob Liefield...Joe Matsuera, Jim Lee and Erik Larson are my all-time favs...Todd Macfarlane was alright if not overrated, IMO...
Ripper Posted September 15, 2005 Author Report Posted September 15, 2005 I loved Portracio's stuff. Jim Lee is probably my all-time fave.
pochorenella Posted September 16, 2005 Report Posted September 16, 2005 I think Jae Lee is pretty good. Check out his Inhumans mini-series from the Marvel Knights imprint. Quite probably his finest work to date.
Vampiro69 Posted September 17, 2005 Report Posted September 17, 2005 I have to agree, his work on the Inhumans was very well done. Didn't he also do The Sentry mini-series?
starvenger Posted September 21, 2005 Report Posted September 21, 2005 It's cliche, but Jae Lee's art is an acquired taste. If you like Bill Seinkiewicz' stuff, chances are you'll like Jae's. That's about all I can say.
Sass Posted September 21, 2005 Report Posted September 21, 2005 I liked Lee's work on his Namor run, which helped the book do big business at the time.
Ripper Posted September 21, 2005 Author Report Posted September 21, 2005 I have looked up some more of his stuff and from what I have seen, he can do some great art, but as a comic artist, he sucked in the begining. I think he was having issues with producing the art under the deadlines required at Marvel and learned eventually. Cover art and such, where he was probably given more time on single images, look great, but panel work...ugh. I still remember I redrew, inked and colored every issue he did in the Executioners song just so I could enjoy it more when I was in High School.
Sass Posted September 21, 2005 Report Posted September 21, 2005 Lee's covers and art always bugged me. He had this unique style but, to me, it just looked lazy. Anyone can scrimble around like Lee does, but at least he was tight with how he shaped his characters sometimes, which isn't a bad thing. When Iron Fist came back from limbo in Namor, Lee should have got the okay from Marvel to do a mini-series or something since Lee's work helped books sell like crazy.
Vyce Posted September 22, 2005 Report Posted September 22, 2005 I actually prefer Jae Lee to Jim Lee.
Black Lushus Posted September 22, 2005 Report Posted September 22, 2005 Joe Matsuera, Jim Lee and Erik Larson are my all-time favs...<{POST_SNAPBACK}> It's MADuera not MATSuera...had to correct my own mistake...duh!
pochorenella Posted September 22, 2005 Report Posted September 22, 2005 Not to nitpick, but I actually believe it's MADUREIRA, isn't it?
Black Lushus Posted September 22, 2005 Report Posted September 22, 2005 nitpicker! I googled it to make sure i got it right and it kept coming up as M-A-D-U-E-R-A
pochorenella Posted September 22, 2005 Report Posted September 22, 2005 Check the other thread on this folder about the "Ultimates" replacements for Millar and Hitch. It's Madureira, without a doubt.
Black Lushus Posted September 22, 2005 Report Posted September 22, 2005 google is flawed? noooooooo oh well, anyway, I liked that guy's work...
pochorenella Posted September 22, 2005 Report Posted September 22, 2005 Then you can check his newest stuff when The Ultimates vol.3 hits stores early next year. Man, that sounded like a Marvel plug on a comics letter's page.
starvenger Posted September 22, 2005 Report Posted September 22, 2005 Maybe you can do it fanboy style: "Ultimates has been a wild ride!! I can't wait to see what Jeph and Joe have in store for us with vol 3!!"
