TNA Trying To Start A Women's Wrestling Division

Recommended Posts

Guest Biggles

TNA officials are looking to expand their women's division and they are eyeing several former WWE Divas. They've already signed Gail Kim. Jackie Gayda is pretty much a lock to join TNA once her 90-day no-compete clause expires. They are considering bringing Jazz in. Speaking of Jazz, she is fine and doing well after Hurricane Katrina. Independent women's wrestler Lady Victoria has talked to her in the last week and Jazz said she is fine. Jazz will be filming some women's wrestling matches with her next month.

Anyways, the other former WWE Diva TNA officials have there eye on is none other than Nidia. They'd like to add her to the roster in hopes of having a full-fledged women's division. Nidia has been working overseas since she was released by WWE last November. She hasn't worked too many dates state-side as independent promoters have stated that her asking price is much too high compared to what the likes of indy headliners such as Raven, AJ Styles and Terry Funk get.

Bleh, I didn't care about it in WWE and even if more credible, I won't care about it in TNA either. They'll always come off second rate compared to the men. That's not sexist, it's just the way our society is. Think about it. Did anyone like when Chyna won the IC title? People don't want to see them on the same level as the men so they'll always be second rate. When they wrestle each other, people still don't really give a shit.

Maybe by people I just mean me but I'm hoping that I'm not in the minority.

I'm a bigger fan of the women being involved in the storylines. I think they make the best storylines. Like when Sherri turned on Savage and then Elizabeth came back to make the save at Wrestlemania. Or how about the build-up in the love triangle between Triple H, Kurt Angle & Stephanie McMahon?

Too bad Gibson is going back to WWE. TNA could snatch him up then have him debut by "rescuing" Nidia from a beatdown or some shit.

I'm a fan of valets. I even don't mind the women when they're in the power role like Lacey in ROH or Ms. Alexandra York of the York Foundation in early 90's WCW. I like when they look weak too...like Jade Chung in ROH. I can't wait for someone to end that shit and make the save but until then, it puts a ton of heat on the Embassy.

It's just when they wrestle, I can't catch on to it. I can't help but think I'd rather watch people like Val Venis get TV time to work a good match instead of watching people like Ashley try to improve.

This is a huge mistake if TNA goes through with this. I agree with Coffey in that they can be integral parts of storylines, but they shouldn't be in the ring. Most of those women suck anyways. Jackie Gayda? She had the worse match on Raw up until Ashley Massaro and Torrie Wilson took her craptastic trophy from her.

Not good news, not good at all.

Trish/Bradshaw vs. Gayda/Harvard Chris is still considered a worse match - given the experience of both Trish and Bradshaw - they should have been able to do something anything

I'd rather have them start a Midgets Division.

Even if the WWE didn't resign him, he still wouldn't have gone to TNA.

I'd rather have them just involved in storylines. There just isn't enough time on a one hour show to have a women's division and all the rest of the stuff they want to put in for other wrestlers.

If they a) had a two hour show, and b) actually brought in really good women wrestlers then it could be worth doing.

If they're going to have one, they have to make it different to what passes as the WWE Womens division. TNA's would have to be hard hitting, competitive wrestling that just happens to be done by women rather than men, rather than an excuse to get some flesh on the screen.

Oh, for some decent women wrestlers. That really WOULD make TNA stand apart from the WWE.

(and your sig is right, Decemberist. Forest ARE still crap)

The funniest thing about this is that TNA's plan for starting a women's divsion seems to focus around signing a bunch of ex-WWE Divas instead of, y'know, the actual indy women's wrestlers who aren't hideously bad (unlike the likes of Jackie Gayda).

I really hope they don't go through with this.

Couldn't TNA get, like, Lacey to come in or Trinity to come back? Where's Traci? They should make their own stars if they expect to get anywhere. I'm sure they could get Alison Danger. They already have Daniels. If they bring in people that were on national TV, they're going to get recognized. Name value isn't always good. Look at Jarrett.

It doesn't even matter if any of them can work. If they're bringing in Nidia and Gayda that obviously isn't high on their priority list.

Where's Molly Holly? Has she had enough time to think about what she's going to do yet? I remember her babbling about some shit in her shoot DVD.

Even if the WWE didn't resign him, he still wouldn't have gone to TNA.

Never say never in this business.

EDIT: Wow, my post is really hypocritical. Still, I think it has merit.

How long does anyone think it'll be before Chris Sabin and other mid-carders get pissed over being phased out even more because of TNA's unnecessary attempt at a Women's Division in a one-hour slot on Spike TV?

See, this'd be great if they were signing Lacey, Mickie Knuckles, Rain, Mercedes, Ms Chif, Daizee Haze, Allison Danger...they need at least three or four from that crew to make it work. Jazz and Molly, fine. Nidia is someone gives her some more wrestling training. Gail Kim is passable enough. Jackie Gayda = Charlie Haas arrival, so she's forgiven. Trinity and Traci are meh.
