I'm not surprised "Lord of War" didn't do better. The commericals make it look like a typical shitty Nicholas Cage movie, where he spouts lot of unfunny one-liners, tries to do something illegal, and learns a valuable lesson before the end of the movie.

Whatever you saw in the previews for Cry_Wolf, highly misleading. It wasn't your average slasher flick, but a surprisingly intelligent suspense film. Wasn't great, but I didn't expect much.

 

I believe the budget was $1 million, so it'll probably be labeled as a success in most eyes.

 

By the way, didn't another slasher flick come out this weekend? I saw a preview for it about a week ago.

I actually am surprised it did so poorly. I would have thought it would have made it to at least the number 2 spot, if not win the week, finishing at whatever place it was with at least 10 million. As it is, it barely did any better than Cry_Wolf.

 

Kudos to March of the Penguins and Red Eye for both hanging around in the top 10.

That would be "Venom", aka "Backwater", aka "The Slayer", which may be opening next week. It's about a group of teens (who else?) who must try to survive an encounter with an undead swamp monster who used to be a tow-truck driver who was killed and then resurrected by some voodoo witch to, I suppose, stalk and kill sexy teens.

The initial previews made it look cool, but as it got closer, I grew weary. I was in the theater to see it this weekend, but ended up not staying. It was Saturday and they had it in one of the small screens in the theater. The placed was packed, which I didn't mind, but packed with a crowd that wasn't going to make it enjoyable. There was a group of five high school aged boys still questioning their sexuality sitting to the left of me that couldn't stop touching each other and a family in the front, complete with screaming baby in stroller and two kids between 4 and 6 that were running around. I guess I'll try to catch it next week.

I was thinking they would put off the release because it was set in or around New Orleans and involving the swamp, voodoo and dead people..but who knows..

 

Oh, and next week is going to be interesting. I dont understand why Corpse Bride is being released a month before Holloween..but I figure it will go over $30 mill easily and be the #1 movie.

Ok, I remember the movie now that someone mentioned it. I saw trailers for Heaven a while ago, but don't remember seeing any previews for it leading up to the weekend.
