Bruiser Chong 0 Report post Posted September 29, 2005 Welp, barring a sweep this weekend, I'd say the Indians are going to have to shoot for the WC. Their offense has just died in this series.

Precious Roy 0 Report post Posted September 29, 2005 So, is anyone actually getting the Giants/Padres game? I don't understand showing most of the country a game (Oakland/LAA) that lost all significance last night. At least the Giants still have a punchers chance. Precious Roy 0 Report post Posted September 29, 2005 Oh great, and Anaheim is putting out the total scrub lineup.... GIVE ME BONDS DAMNIT!
Fökai 0 Report post Posted September 29, 2005 We're getting Angels/A's on FSN and Dodgers/D-Backs on FSN 2. I don't know where you'll find Padres/Giants. Padres/Giants is on ESPN2 if you live in SoCal because of Angels/A's on FSN and Dodgers/D-Backs on FSN 2. Ahh. The game comes on after the finish to the Miami-Ohio/Cincinnati cfb game, since they're doing an overrun.

KingPK 0 Report post Posted September 29, 2005 And while I'm thinking about it, I intend to start a separate Sox/Yankees thread this weekend. I had that thought last weekend and was going to beat you to the punch. Tomorrow's game is essentially a must win for the Red Sox, because they're done if they go down two games. There's no way in hell they will sweep the Yankees at home (especially since they will probably stink against Wang, like they have against almost every pitcher they have faced for the first time this year). USC Wuz Robbed! 0 Report post Posted September 29, 2005 SD is leading 2-0. If they win tonight they would make it to the playoffs faster than Boston/NY and Chicago/Cleveland

Guest TheDon Report post Posted September 29, 2005 I dont think anybody has mentioned it but Arod has the single season Yankees record for Homeruns by a right hand hitter. He hit his 47th of the Season which pases Joe D.

Guest MikeSC Report post Posted September 29, 2005 How are they underachievers? They sign good pitchers and good hitters --- and solely to catch the Braves in the East --- and they ALWAYS come up short. Not occasionally, but always. If you've failed for years on end, the problem is the talent you have.
Bruiser Chong 0 Report post Posted September 29, 2005 Underachieving = the Cubs. Phillies = unlucky to be in the same division as a team that constantly does the impossible.
UseTheSledgehammerUh 0 Report post Posted September 29, 2005 "Fuck UTSHU if he believes that's he a stat monkey - he's the reason that they're not a joke in the NL East, being passed by the Mets, Marlins and Expos." I didn't know the Expos were a team. And he's far from the reason they're not a joke. The players who actually care (Rollins, Utley, Howard, i.e. youth & dedication) would be that. Abreu just hits home runs every now and then and gets RBIs. But not in big-time situations. Keep bitching about the Phillies being good all you want. All they've been good at is being the NL Bridesmaid...and since they can't even get in the Playoffs, they're more like the Flower Boy.
Fökai 0 Report post Posted September 29, 2005 I didn't know the Expos were a team. I didn't know you forgot that they existed as the Expos for the past seven seasons, which is what I was referring to. The players who actually care (Rollins, Utley, Howard, i.e. youth & dedication) would be that. I didn't know that they exuded such dedication when neither Utley or Howard have played a full season yet. Hell, Howard just passed 300 AB's for the season. Oh yes, the youthful Phillies who will actually regressed record-wise, compared to last year without either men contributing much. Abreu just hits home runs every now and then and gets RBIs. But not in big-time situations. I guess leading his team in win shares isn't enough. Perhaps if he lead the team in "imaginary big-time situations", I guess you'd be satisfied. Keep bitching about the Phillies being good all you want. All they've been good at is being the NL Bridesmaid...and since they can't even get in the Playoffs, they're more like the Flower Boy. Compared with your demolition project which consists of keeping three players who have yet to log a full season, a servicable shortstop and an oft-injured free-swinging left-fielder who's bound to underachieve when he gets his next contract? If you've failed for years on end, the problem is the talent you have. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> They really fucked up with the manager search this year. Cholly cost them a few games himself with his stupid decisions. They nearly went with Terry Pendleton, who despite having no managerial experience, impressed them tons in his interview. Why not go with him? It's the kind of outside the box thinking the franchise could really use instead of the old boys network they currently have. And considering its Ed Wade who is the GM, it's not really hard to do a better job than him. Just wait for him to go with the old favorite of his, love of "veteran relievers" who absolutely blow when they get to Philly. Even if Wade were replaced, I wouldn't like it unless they go with someone outside the organization who will get free reign, perhaps Gerry Hunsicker or someone like that. No promoting Amaro and ABSOLUTELY DO NOT give Dallas Green the job.

Hell, Howard just passed 300 AB's for the season. What does that have to do w/ their dedication? They can't be seen as dedicated until they log a full season? CanadianChris 0 Report post Posted September 29, 2005 White Sox are two innings away from clinching a tie for the AL Central title. 4-1 lead over the Tigers heading to the 8th. EDIT: Sox have now actually clinched the Central title outright, as a tie with Cleveland would mean both teams are in the postseason, and Chicago would win the division on the head-to-head tiebreaker.
