Bored 0 Report post Posted October 4, 2005 I did it last year, so might as well do it again this year. For position players I take the Top 30 in games started at each position (might not necessarily be one player from each team) and rank them using five different statistical categories: OPS, Value Over Replacement Player, Equivalent Average, Runs Created (ballpark adjusted) and Win Shares. 2004 Rankings I'll start with catchers. This is based on what they did in 2005 only. Past performance and potential future value is not factored. 1. Victor Martinez, Indians 2. Jason Varitek, Red Sox 3. Joe Mauer, Twins 4. Vern Gagne 0 Report post Posted October 4, 2005 "Baby Jesus" is still a 5020 hitter, but it's nice to see him third amongst catchers. He needs to improve his power, and Slugging next year though.

EVIL~! alkeiper 0 Report post Posted October 4, 2005 Wow, no wonder the Jays are shopping Orlando Hudson. I knew he wasn't great, but I didn't expect to see him quite that far down the list. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> I think the Bored's rankings miss the mark here. Four of his five criteria do not consider defense, while Win Shares sees Hudson as the best defensive second baseman in the majors.
Bored 0 Report post Posted October 4, 2005 True, but even in Win Shares Hudson ranked only 17th because of his poor offense. Really it's tough to find a defensive factor beyond Win Shares. Range factor and zone rating are both terribly flawed and I no idea where I'd be able to find UZR's for the 2005 season.

UseTheSledgehammerUh 0 Report post Posted October 5, 2005 I can't wait til Abreu gets ranked like #1 or #3 and he's dealt in the offseason so the Phillies can worry about Big Injured Thome moving back into the lineup. I dislike Abreu, but the shit that's been rumored to occur involving Abreu and Wagner gone, Howard to the OF, Big Jim back to first is really awful.

Nah, let's at least throw Macias in there so we're rid of his useless ass. And make Patterson the PTBNL. Plus, if we traded both of them, Dusty might resign in protest. 2. I think everyone in the Phillies' front office knows putting Ryan Howard in left field is a bad idea, and I've never heard any serious discussion about it.
