Guest TheDon Report post Posted October 5, 2005 Astros quickly broke the game open in the top of the 8th. I really thought the Braves were going to get out of the inning giving up only one run. Inning is finally over for the Stros.

bob_barron 0 Report post Posted October 5, 2005 Reitsma has an ERA of 81.00. Whoa. That's bad. Red Sock Mike Remlinger bad. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Now it's
The Czech Republic 0 Report post Posted October 5, 2005 Reitsma has an ERA of 81.00. Whoa. That's bad. Red Sock Mike Remlinger bad. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Now it's 108 <{POST_SNAPBACK}> I think that is pretty close to Remlinger's now. His ERA was actually undefined for a while because he never recorded a third of an inning in the AL to act as the denominator in tabulating his ERA.
Bruiser Chong 0 Report post Posted October 5, 2005 I'd just like to note how silly it is to take a stat like ERA so seriously when it's taken from such a small sampling.

Guest Smues Report post Posted October 6, 2005 Just got done watching the game (albiet speeding through it once the bullpen pretended it was game 5 of last year again). I've got nothing to say.
Fökai 0 Report post Posted October 6, 2005 For this series only, Barron is allowed to bring back the term "Resucksma". If we get swept, I'm changing my username.

bob_barron 0 Report post Posted October 6, 2005 Well tonight is it. This is why Smoltz was put back in the starting rotation, for a game like this. If Smoltz can win, I think we can go 1-1 with Sosa and Thompson. Hudson was wild, which isn't like him and I think he was just too charged up. I think if he was to start Game 5, he'd pitch much better. No matter what, Smoltz HAS to go 7-8 innings. It's imperative. Game 3 is 7:30 on Saturday, Game 4 (if necessary) is 1:00 on Sunday. So I'll be missing Game 3 (U2 concert), but should be able to see Game 4.
sfaJack 0 Report post Posted October 6, 2005 It appears there might not be any baseball in Atlanta tonight. That'd be good news for the Braves, since it means they'll definitely see Brandon Backe in either game 4 or 5, instead of possibly Clemens twice.
bob_barron 0 Report post Posted October 6, 2005 Haven't heard anything about this, is it raining badly in Atlanta?

And since I have this feeling the first 3 games will be the only 3 games I guess I'm watching the entire sweep series on tape.
sfaJack 0 Report post Posted October 6, 2005 Haven't heard anything about this, is it raining badly in Atlanta? <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Apparently tropical storm Tammy is bringing a bunch of rain to the Atlanta area. The local radio guy they sent over to ATL from here was saying it was already pouring at 8:00 and that it was expected to continue throughout the afternoon. His guess was there would be no game and they'll play Friday instead.
Just John 0 Report post Posted October 6, 2005 That'd be good news for the Braves, since it means they'll definitely see Brandon Backe in either game 4 or 5, instead of possibly Clemens twice. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> You say that like a game against Backe is a free win for the Braves. He's only the #4 because he gets overshadowed by the big 3, so don't take him lightly. And Pettitte would start Game 5, so the Braves still have to deal with that if the series gets that far. sfaJack 0 Report post Posted October 6, 2005 It's not a free win, but come on dude. You're kidding yourself if you think he compares to any of the other three. He's a decent pitcher with a fairly live arm who shows occasional flashes of brilliance. The problem is, he's bad a lot more often than he's good. Would the Braves pound him just because he's Brandon Backe? No. Would they rather face him than Clemens or Pettitte again in the series? Yes. Wouldn't you? Guest Wart Report post Posted October 6, 2005 I think it has always been the plan that Backe would pitch game 4, and Pettitte game 5 if those are needed, but of course that could change if the Astro's were down 2-1. I'm guessing they want to avoid pitching Clemens on 3 days rest if they can, considering his recent injury problem.
Vern Gagne 0 Report post Posted October 6, 2005 Backe is 6-2 with a 3.41 ERA at home this season.

the max 0 Report post Posted October 7, 2005 I have it on my smaller tv that only has basic cable while I'm flipping around between hockey games. It's funny, I always thought Lyons was terrible (and he's not anything great), but he's actually a decent commentator. He and Brenneman are ball-washing Atlanta's rookies and they help with getting Atlanta the three run homer.

Guest Smues Report post Posted October 7, 2005 I had my fingers crossed during the whole game (and it made taking notes during the class I'm in right now quite a pain). Professor just released control of our computers so I was finally able to check and see that we won. This is a major weight off my shoulders. Yes I still think we're losing this series, but winning tonight means I'll feel ok tommorow and Saturday. Huzzah stable mental state for the rest of the week. Was Clemens off his game due to injury? Seeing that the Braves got five runs off of a guy who had an ERA on the road below 1 for most of the season (I think) is a good sign, but I'm guessing it was because he was hurt? The commentators were saying that Clemens was still in deep pain from his hamstring injury.
