Bret Hart DVD!

Recommended Posts

I think they got the date wrong, so I'd guess its one of the following (I'd guess its the Action Zone match):

WWF @ Portland, ME - Civic Center - August 17, 1994 (3,596)

WWF Superstars taping:

WWF World Champion Bret Hart pinned Owen Hart at 13:50 with a roll up in a lumberjack match; lumberjacks included: Jim Neidhart, 1-2-3 Kid, Jeff Jarrett, Billy & Bart Gunn, the Headshrinkers, the Heavenly Bodies, Kwang, Well Dunn, & Kwang; the challenger had originally won the match and title at 3:06 after Jim Neidhart interfered as Owen was caught in the Sharpshooter and clotheslined the champion - however several of the lumberjacks and other officials had the finish replayed on the big screen so the referee could see what had happened; the match was ordered to continue (Wham Bam Bodyslam)

WWF @ White Plains, NY - Westchester County Civic Center - September 28, 1994

Action Zone - 10/23/94 - initial episode: WWF World Champion Bret Hart pinned Owen Hart (w/ Jim Neidhart) at 15:01 after Davey Boy Smith caused the challenger to crotch himself on the top rope; Smith came ringside mid-way through the bout to counter Neidhart's interference; this was deemed Owen's last shot at the title; after the bout, Bret cut an in-ring promo on Bob Backlund, giving him a title shot at the Survivor Series

Or, they got the month wrong. Keep in mind the Bret/Owen SummerSlam cage match was on August 29th . . . .

I would doubt that because the time listed is 17:20 and the cage match was over 30 minutes.

Not having the dates on some of those matches is funny, since there's like a million Hart Foundation vs. Bulldog matches and what not. Sad to see only the one Austin match on the DVD, and I assume it'll be WMXIII (which I already own) and not Survivor Series 96 (which I need). Looks like a quality piece of work all and all though.

Well, the listing we're getting from the BBFC site is more than likely something that was turned in by WWE or the UK DVD manufacturer to get a rating/approval for sale in the UK. So, dates weren't really needed for that, just a general breakdown of the DVD in order to judge what it should be rated . . . we'll get the match dates when Silvervision.co.uk finally lists it.

Very true, good point. It's likely the second Action Zone match, though it could be either based on the time and what they cut/leave in for ring entrances, etc.

It's the time of the full chapter basically. Does anyone know the time of Bret/Owen WM10 match? As if that was around 20-min then that must be the other Bret/Owen match listed I guess.

I just want to know the dates of the Bulldogs, Bees and DiBiase the matches the most.

I don't want to guess the Bulldogs match as it could be anything (an MSG from 1985?)

The Bees match will probably be from the same time period.

DiBiase will be either MSG 12/91, SNME 4/91 or from Prime Time (and coliseum video) in 1989

I also hope it's the SurSeries 96 match. I already have them both on tape, but I want the SS match on DVD quality. I'll have the Mania one when I get the Anthology sets.

Yeah, pretty sure it's the Action Zone match. Meltzer wrote a couple of months back that Bret considers that to be his best match with Owen, hence why it's included.

As far as there being more matches on the set, I actually think this is it. Bret did 7 hours worth of interviews, and seeing how the main feature discs are under 3 hours total, I wouldn't count on more matches. Which kinda sucks since I enjoy WWE DVDs where the matches are the main feature ('Taker, Michaels, Flair) as opposed to part of the extras.

Also, anyone notice the listing seems to be missing "EXTRAS 3 OF 5," although there is no significant time gap between any of the listed matches.

BTW, the Hakushi match appears to be from IYH based on the time length given. The Raw match was around 10-11 min.

I think it's the WrestleMania match. The Survivor Series match is over 28 minutes long and the time given on the listing is under 28 min.

I'm 99% sure there will be other matches. Those matches are the 'extras'. There will be matches on the main feature (which is listed as about 250 minutes) with Brets commentary. I'd guess the first title win will certainly be one of those and a few others with Bret talking about each for 10-15.

^ March 8, 1986 at the Boston Garden

Ricky Steamboat pinned Bret Hart (w/ Jimmy Hart) when the momentum of a crossbody by Hart put Steamboat on top

The only known televised encounter between the two if I'm not mistaken, so in a way this was an early dream match considering how far both men had later advanced in their wrestling careers.

The Bret DVD is only 9 hours and 8 minutes long, whereas the Undertaker DVD is 10 hours and the Flair DVD is 10.5 hours long.

They should've been able to fit an extra match or two. Oh well.

As far as the matches that I thought should've been on there are:

Bret vs. 123 Kid

Bret vs. Shawn @ Survivor Series 92

Bret vs. Flair - 1st WWF Title win

Canadian Stampede 10-man tag

Bret/Anvil vs. Steiner Brothers from WrestleFest 94

Bret vs. Vader vs. Austin vs. Undertaker from Final Four

The Bret and 'Taker DVDs are exactly the same length.

Bret vs. Flair - 1st WWF Title win

Was that even on TV?

No, just Coliseum Video.

And the Hart v Steamboat match is awfully good, but I'd prefer the Dynamite Kid v Bret Hart match from Landover, MD in 1985.

Also, how many of the guys being profiled actually choose which matches are in there?

Is Hart Foundation vs Rockers likely to be the match with the ring break/phantom title change or did they have other matches?

The problem with a a Bret Hart DVD is not which matches to include, but which matches to *exclude*. They've definitely left off some obvious choices, but I'm still quite happy with this match listing. Good thing they didn't include the WM 12 ironman like originally rumoured, since it would have eaten up/wasted a whole hour of DVD time.

Doesn't seem to have any other matches listed as I thought it would. Will be a great set but I must say i'm dissapointed at some of the stuff seemingly left out. Maybe they weren't as good from a workrate point of view but I think you have to have a balance between great matches and great moments ie. titles win's etc.

The Bulldog match from Summerslam is there. They missed it out on the original listing but it's been added now.

I'm still hoping there might be more matches on the main feature but it's looking unlikley. It leaves the interview section at about 2 1/2 hours which seems a lot.

The DVD didn't improve one bit with this new listing. The ONO match was just released on Taker's set a couple of months back, it makes no sense to include it again so soon. And the Nasty Boys match? If they wanted yet another Hart Foundation match why not include one with the Brainbusters instead, or maybe Bret/Owen vs Steiners? And there's only one of his Title wins? There's so many terrific stuff left out, and there's no Stampede stuff either. Maybe they'll show some footage on the main program, hopefully.

You CAN'T go wrong with this set.I think I have seen the tag matches with buldogs/bees and they are very good. The ONO match may have just been released on the taker set but I didn't buy it so I'm happy to see it included.Glad to see they don't have the ironman match vs michaels on here.I was hoping for his raw match vs the kid and the ss match vs austin but there is enough good stuff on here. The only match I'm surprised they didn't include was his title win over flair.
