Guest slmon Report post Posted October 11, 2005 Where is all the Shawn content? Maybe Bret is saving his commentary on that subject for his book???
pochorenella 0 Report post Posted October 11, 2005 From the looks of it, seems that Bret wanted as little of Shawn and Flair as possible on this DVD. Not that he should dedicate whole chapters to them or anything like that, but his very first WWF Title win was against Flair and in Canada, no less. And Shawn is arguably one of his biggest rivals both in and out of the ring, so it's somewhat surprising the lack of material from them. Maybe he goes a bit at lenght on them on the main program, which seems to be fairly long.
Lil' Bitch 0 Report post Posted October 11, 2005 I'm sure Flair Vs. Hart is on there somewhere or at least clips of it, its his first title win for crying out loud. I would agree though that I would have loved to have seen Hart / Michaels SSeries 92, Hart / Yokozuna WM X, Hart / Lawler KOTR 95, The Final Four, Canadian Stampede, or Hart / Austin SSeries 96 on there, but unfortunately you can't always get what you want. The ONO match was just released on Taker's set a couple of months back, it makes no sense to include it again so soon. I'm guessing only because it was better than SummerSlam 97. A Bret DVD can live without ONO because while it was a good match, it hardly was all that significant to Bret's career and Bret has a long list of other great pieces of work. As for the Deadman? That was one of his very few good matches...hence why it had to be included.
Lil' Bitch 0 Report post Posted October 11, 2005 Well, they could have put SummerSlam 97 on there too because it was Bret's final WWE title win, but they chose ONO for the reason I stated hence my point. I'm guessing the Bigelow match is off Global Warfare, is it better than the KOTR finals?

Most dvd's release the famous matches and don't offer the obscure gems that went un-noticed. I mean, they could have gone the easy way out and slapped on the Ironman with Shawn since it was a legendary match and Bret loves it but they smartly took that time it would alloted and let us see lesser known matches. Everyone has seen The ironman match, but not alot have seen the Bigelow match.
Guest slmon Report post Posted October 11, 2005 I hear you, poco, but like you said, Shawn is considered one of Bret's greatest rivals - the greatest according to people who voted on the topic at Bret's web site. Bret is allowing personal hostility between the two trump appreciation for work rate - a surprising thing for someone who proudly bears the reputation of "The Best there ever was, is and will be." Lil' Bitch 0 Report post Posted October 11, 2005 Another thing I want to add is not everybody is going to get the Undertaker DVD so whoever gets Bret's DVD will have the ONO match. I'm just saying.
pochorenella 0 Report post Posted October 11, 2005 Your right. For me, though, the ONO match (along with the SD! match vs Angle, and the $16.99 price tag) was a big reason why I DID buy Taker's DVD, even though I'm not a Taker fan. Maybe it's just me, but I can't help feel a little bit disappointed they didn't include some more fan-favorite matches.

Guest Askewniverse Report post Posted October 11, 2005 I'm a bit disappointed in the match listing (I already have all of the matches listed), but I'm still going to buy the DVD. My biggest gripe about the match listing is that there are too many non-finishes. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> You wanted the KOTR '95 match on there? Why? The match was horrible. There are at least a dozen other Bret matches that I would include instead.
Lil' Bitch 0 Report post Posted October 11, 2005 Because it was the fitting end of a classic feud in Bret's career that spanned 2 years.
Guest *KNK* Report post Posted October 11, 2005 Because it was the fitting end of a classic feud in Bret's career that spanned 2 years. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> I'd just show a montage of King's jokes and then a quick highlight package of that match.
Guest rawmvp Report post Posted October 11, 2005 Very disappointing match listing. Hart Foundation vs. Nasty Boys? As many of you already know, Bret had full creative control over the DVD. With that said, what was he smoking? Here's my preferred list: Hart Foundation vs. Strike Force Hart Foundation vs. Steiners Hart Foundation vs. Brainbusters Bret vs. Shawn from SurvSer 92 Final Four Canadian Stampede Bret vs. Shawn - 1st ever WWF Ladder match Bret vs. Flair - 1st WWF Title win Bret vs. Hennig - 1st IC Title win Bret vs. Piper - WM 8 Bret vs. Patriot - Ground Zero Bret vs. Backlund - Surv Ser 94 Bret vs. Jean Pierre Bret vs. 123 Kid Bret vs. Austin - Surv Ser 96 Bret vs. Razor - RR 93 Bret vs. Savage - Saturday Night's Main Event Bret vs. Dynamite Kid - Ladder match (Stampede Wrestling)
Dangerous A 0 Report post Posted October 11, 2005 While I'll still buy this, I have to admit the match listing is a bit of a disappointment considering what has been excluded. I wonder if this is because they plan on more Bret DVD releases and didn't want to "blow their load" on one DVD set?
Guest rawmvp Report post Posted October 11, 2005 That's doubtful, Dangerous A, because Bret had 100% control over the contents of the DVD.
Guest TheDon Report post Posted October 11, 2005 I wish this DVD had Hart Foundation vrs Demolition from SummerSlam 1990. I believe it was a 2 out of 3 falls match. With the amount of wrestling Bret Hart did I could see a second dvd.
pochorenella 0 Report post Posted October 11, 2005 (edited) That's doubtful, Dangerous A, because Bret had 100% control over the contents of the DVD Well then, he's not giving fans what they want to see. Rather he's giving them what HE wants them to see. He should've done a poll on his website asking what would fans be interested the most in seeing - within the realm of WWE, WCW, and maybe Stampede. Dangerous A 0 Report post Posted October 11, 2005 I wonder if space was a factor since they could've probrably made a 4 or 5 disc set from just his matches alone. Also, maybe WWE told Bret to scale down his match list some because they were going to release a matches only disc or two similar to HHH and HBK's.
Guest Askewniverse Report post Posted October 11, 2005 Because it was the fitting end of a classic feud in Bret's career that spanned 2 years. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> The KOTR '95 match was hardly a "fitting end." A fitting end would have seen Bret beat Lawler cleanly. A fitting end would have seen Lawler stop bothering Bret. That's not what happened. Lawler brought in Yankem and the feud continued. The feud didn't really end until Bret beat Yankem in a cage match on Raw. Saying that the feud spanned 2 years is a stretch. They feuded twice during a 2 year time period. There's a difference. And in what sane person's mind does Bret vs. Lawler from '95 qualify as a "classic" feud?
Lil' Bitch 0 Report post Posted October 11, 2005 ^ Okay, whatever you want to think, I'm not going to bother arguing with you, its a feud that I personally enjoyed and I would have liked to seen that match on there. And how could I forget about Harts / Demos and Hart / Piper? *slaps forehead
Guest JMA Report post Posted October 11, 2005 I really enjoyed the pre-Attitude, heel Jerry Lawler. He sure got paired up with a lot of wrestlers with crappy gimmicks, though (Isaac Yankeem, face Doink w/ Dink, the Ultimate Warrior, Aldo Montoya, ect). GreatWhiteNope 0 Report post Posted October 11, 2005 Someone on DVDTalk said they preordered from FYE and have been informed they will be receiving a bonus disc. slabinskia 0 Report post Posted October 12, 2005 It is still possibly that there will be another flair dvd in the future. At least I hope so. I didn't like the kotr 95 bret/lawler match but I did like the bret/doink followed by bret/lawler match from summerslam 93. Obviously there is more good stuff that could be included but the matches available are good choices.Bret had too many good matches to fit on a 3 disc set.I am satisfied with the selections. This will be my new favorite wwe dvd.It was the flair set but there are more matches here.

Shanghai Kid 0 Report post Posted October 12, 2005 At least it isn't like Shawn or Foleys DVD where the matches are all their really is. The 3 hour main feature has to be considered the big draw on the DVD while the matches are just the extras. The match list is dissapointing but if the main feature is good and covers things like (Bret/Flair, Bret/Shawn), than I'd say it's a nice defenitive DVD. Remember, the Ric Flair DVD was absolutlely great, but they really did leave alot of his feuds and matches off the DVD.
