Well, the Cards now have to beat Pettitte, Oswalt, and Clemens. HAW! Backe was the pitcher to beat today and their offense didn't get it done. The umpiring didn't help at all, but the Cards have been a team to go above and beyond poor umpiring.

ANY team would be hard pressed to beat Pettitte, Oswalt, and Clemens 3 times in a row. I guess you could point to the fact that the Cards did just that during one regular season series, but it's gonna take a real effort to do it again.

 

And about the Umping... I didn't see the Edmonds play that he complained about, so I don't know if that would have directly led to any runs, but what's the excuse for having runners at the corners with no outs and not getting one run across?

They did blow it last year, except they were down 2-0. Then had to win three straight at home and couldn't finish at Busch. This year they can clinch at home and have Pettitte.

Houston had to be the underdogs going into this series, so they're making a lot of people (like myself - Houston in 6) look smart. That said, they're not dominating by any stretch, and if STL wins game 5 I think they could easily turn around and win game 6 back at home, and then it's a whole new series.

 

A Houston-Chicago WS will be great for those of us who like pitching duels, but outside of Clemens' starts it'll probably tank on the coasts.

Yeah, but how many WS this decade have been ratings killers? Last year with Boston and '01 with NY post 9-11, essentialy.

Fox kills the ratings themselves by making it seem as though Boston and the Yankees are the only two teams in baseball worth caring about (although they're not alone in that regard). When they get eliminated, everyone stops watching because the other teams aren't perceived as being important enough for anyone outside their home cities to care.

Because Fox and MLB have made little to no effort to expose fans to teams and players outside of their own markets. Every week Fox shows a Yankee game. I can see that anytime. Games from divisions on the other side of the country are not treated as big events until the postseason, and that hurts their marketability.
