I don't buy the "Black Sox" scandal, because we're an insanely forgiving nation, we embrace public scandal. The comparative dominance of the Chicago Cubs comes from millions of people growing up with day games on WGN. Also, prior to 1958, the western limits of the major league were the St. Louis Cardinals and Cubs, who each had 50,000-watt flagships and sizable networks. It's just a matter of exposure.
