NFL Week Six

Recommended Posts

Call me crazy, but I think the Rams are a good chance to win, or at least cover the spread on MNF. The Colts haven't faced a decent O yet. With Martz being out, the Rams might run the ball more and force Mathis and Freeny to stay at home, which in turn will help Pace and Barron contain them. If the Rams start with posession, I would not be suprised to see them repeat what they did against the Eagles last year on MNF and start the drive with 10 straight runs. It could be possible that after this weekend there will be no more undefeated teams because the Rams are most definatley in there with a chance.

This can probably go here since it is NFL talk, but if the Texans end up with the worst record in the NFL this year, do they throw a grenade on the David Carr era, and try to pick up Leinhart if he is still the consensus #1 or trade it away to the many possible suitors to stockpile draft picks?

Of course 2nd-4th place in the NFC North could go 1,2,3.....

David Carr isn't the Texans' problem. I really think they can win with him though he'll never be confused with the elite qb's. Their problem is that their roster sucks. And that can be blamed on the coaching staff and the general manager.

Trading away a high pick for a package of picks would be nice I guess, but the Texans' draft history isn't great. Why would that suddenly change?

Yeah, and what else? Johnson and Dunta Robinson were great picks and the jury's still out on Carr (not his fault, really), but it's pretty hard to fuck up a top 10 pick.

Look at the rest of their drafts, particularly the second and third rounds. They've pretty gotten nothing out of any of those picks in four years of drafting. Combine that with the fact that they've wasted many of the free agent dollars they've handed out and made a bad trade for Philip Buchanon (who's already benched) and you have the recipe for a 4 win team.

Drafting Leinart would be another mistake. If Carr is getting sacked like nobody's business, what makes you think Leinart would be better off? I'd say trade down the pick and get a couple of O-linemen and then if you really want a QB, get Stanton or Keller later in the draft.

LEINART LEINART LEINART LEINART LEINART LEINART LEINART LEINART. No H.

Also, the only way Carr is going to be shown the door is if Capers is too.

What can I say, I am a special ed teacher, we didn't have a comprehensive screening to get our job. :D

I agree that Carr is not the problem, but you know the nature of the NFL, especially with what 10 of the last 12 drafts having a QB go #1. I guess another good question would be if Capers makes it the whole year. I would guess yes because they already have gone through their bye week.

And yet there may be hope for the Patriots defense...

Bruschi may return this year

By JIMMY GOLEN, AP Sports Writer

October 14, 2005

FOXBOROUGH, Mass. (AP) -- New England linebacker Tedy Bruschi is working toward a return to the Patriots -- this season, not next -- thanks to a faster-than-expected recovery from the stroke that sent him to the emergency room just days after playing in his first Pro Bowl.

Several obstacles remain: Bruschi has received favorable reports from doctors but not final medical clearance, and others involved in the decision -- including the team's lawyers and Bruschi's family -- have not signed off on it.

Bruschi said this summer he had no intention of coming back for the 2005 season. But the speed of his rehabilitation has made it possible for him to accelerate his schedule.

``Anybody we can get back to this football team at this point would help us, regardless of who it is,'' linebacker Mike Vrabel said Friday. ``Whoever we can have back, we'll take back.''

Bruschi is eligible to return from the physically unable to perform list after the sixth week of the season, which starts on Monday. Bruschi was not available for comment on Friday. Patriots coach Bill Belichick said Friday he would leave any comment to Bruschi.

``If Tedy has something to say, I'm sure he's perfectly capable of saying that himself,'' Belichick said. ``I have nothing to add to that situation whatsoever. Zero.''

Bruschi has declined repeated interview requests from The Associated Press.

Bruschi, who has a wife and three sons, originally planned to take a year off to recover from the stroke. But his health had improved enough that he began traveling to specialists and has received favorable reports from them.

Bruschi, 32, suffered a mild stroke at his home in February, less than two days after his first career Pro Bowl and 10 days after the Patriots won their third Super Bowl in four years. He was rushed to the hospital after complaining of numbness in his left arm and leg.

Bruschi told The Boston Globe that doctors believe the stroke was the result of a blood clot that traveled through a small hole in his heart. The hole was surgically repaired in March, he said.

Bruschi told the Globe that he had no intention of playing this season.

``I'm telling you right now, that's not going to happen,'' he was quoted as saying. ``I need to do what's best for my family and myself. There's a difference between living normally and being fine, and getting ready for a professional football season. I need the year to get myself ready.

``I considered playing this season. We talked about it a lot. But this is something that you don't rush. It's not a sprained ankle.''

The Patriots opted not to put Bruschi on the injured reserve list, which would have eliminated the possibility of a return in 2005. Instead, he went on the physically unable to perform list, which meant he had to sit out at least the first six games.

The Patriots (3-2) play their sixth game on Sunday in Denver.

Bruschi has been working out regularly at the team's facility and has been attending defensive meetings since before training camp started in July. Since the regular season began, he has been in the locker room, upbeat and smiling. He has also been a regular on the sideline at home games.

``If he decides to come back, that's great,'' linebacker Rosevelt Colvin said. ``Any team could use a good player, and I think Tedy's a good player. If he doesn't, then obviously he's going to choose to rest and continue to get better.''

Bruschi has averaged more than 100 tackles over the past four seasons. Last year he was named AFC Defensive Player of the Week three times.

Since winning their second straight Super Bowl in February, the Patriots have lost defensive coordinator Romeo Crennel; cornerback Ty Law; linebackers Roman Phifer and Ted Johnson and safety Rodney Harrison. Three-time Pro Bowl defensive end Richard Seymour missed last week's game with a knee injury, and cornerbacks Tyrone Poole and Randall Gay have missed significant time with ankle injuries.

This would be a great story. Bruschi comes back from a stroke to bring the Pats defense back to the NFL's elite this season en route to accomplishing the first threepeat in Super Bowl history.

And he should retire, right after the Pats beat the Colts in Indy for the AFC Championship and face some scrub team from the NFC to win their 3rd straight.

It's gotta happen sometime.

Apparently he went to multiple doctors and each of them said that the rigors of playing football wouldn't cause another stroke any more than if he was just horsing around with his kids since the cause of his first stroke (the aforementioned hole in his heart) was repaired.

Hey, no one can make the decision except for him and his family.

What's everyone's thoughts on the Bills-Jets game tomorrow? Seems like that' s just about it for the losing team tomorrow.

I work with a plethora of Bills fans who are brimming with confidence after last week's win, citing history and whatnot.

On the other hand, Gandhi < Testaverde.

Well, my favourite team (cincy) is going to destroy. Palmer has a laser arm against shitty D's, Chad's getting two awesome celebrations at least.

Seattle better fucking win. They should, and probably will. If they give it up for the Texans, though, they might as well not show up for the rest of the season.

I'll miss the Cardinals.

In my fantasy league, I gauranteed a victory. I said I will wash my friend's car if he wins. Won't happen. I have Carson, Rudi (can't fail) Lamont, Moss, Marvin. It's going to be a slaughter of epic proportions. I love the NFL, I love fantasy football.

The Giants/Cowboys game is going to be awesome. And i want to see if the Colts D keeps it up (Colts are winning either way) Is it just me, or are D's just DOMINTATING this year?

I got 'Nati/Tenn (that should be a slaughter), Dallas/NYG and NE/Denver.

I love that line-up. The best line up the networks have given me this season so far.

Once again, I'll keep my running thoughts contained to one post as to save space.

Every week, I make a pre-game pick on how many turnovers and sacks the Bengals D will pick up and I'm going to be conservative today and say 4 int's and 5 sacks. Palmer will easily rack up 350+ yards today and Im thinking Chad has a laundry load of dances prepared for this afternoon.

To be honest, Im more intrigued by the Dallas/NYG showdown.

The first two Giant drives were very similar to the old Giant offense. Two running plays and an inconplete pass for 3rd and out. Giants D cannot hold the Cowboys down for long, they need to score.

this is going to incite vomit soon.

You'll be happy to know that 'Nati is sucking too. So you might not lose ground.

Seriously, I should've known Tennessee wouldn't just fall under and let the Bengals run over them. I just assumed the bengals were embarassed by losing on primetime and wanted to kick some ass.

Giants waste 3 turnovers and only have six points. Is it 2004?

edit: The Giants secondary might be the worst in NFL history. They cannot stop a pass from being caught. EVERY SINGLE PASS.

That was just a beautiful drive by Carson Palmer.

Palmer is 14/15, 124 Yards and 1 TD.
