Big Show

Recommended Posts

He seems to be using a 'Smiling' gimmick (I never did find that on EWR) What do you guys think of his current direction? He's always had the stigma of being 'the giant that never was' - badly used, etc.. I find him quite entertaining the way he is at the moment, do you think he's still good for anything?

Big Show was used quite effectively this past week on Raw. Besides that, I really haven't been too into his character since he came back last fall.

I think Big Show was at his best in 2003, when he was feuding with Brock.

I think the way he's being used is about as good as you're going to get anymore...he can't bring in the money and ratings as champ, so just run him out to pop the crowd with his antics and that's good enough...

eh, I guess that depends on who he's getting over...kinda like Kane...he's basically there to make others look stronger...when he's not doing that, he slaps jobbers and tag teams around...

Show should be back to main eventing, but of course I'm going to get flamed for typing that. :P

When they had the chance, I wish they would've brought him back as a MONSTER heel, like they should have. They've done this "happy, go lucky giant" thing for too long with Big Show. They should've brought him back as an angry pissed off giant who just destroys everything in his path. Heck, have him feud with Cena, injure him, and take the title. Then have Cena come back and finally be the guy who beats the monster. Would've been more effective than what they're doing now.

People used to say that about Kurt though, hyper.

They still say that. Kurt Angle, no matter what will never come off as a badass to me. He'll always be "goofy". Just like no one can buy Jericho as anything beyond a "whiner" when it comes to being a heel.

The Big Show was very effective on Smackdown as a heel with his program against Brock Lesnar (That was a testament to TBS's ability to make someone look good). He doesn't struggle to get face pops because he'll always be over because of his size and his personality.

The problem is, He's turned so much over his tenure that even Lex Luger is confused. At this point, his draw is virtually done (if it ever really existed). I personally don't think of him as a credible main eventer anymore but his size will keep him there.

What TBS does offer, is a great comedy performer (he manages to be, actually funny unlike others who try to be but fail miserably). TBS is always a great ambassador for WWE, notice how, TBS without a major program for WMXXI was still pushed onto late night shows and other media outlets.

He is a very charismatic and genuine personality that is greatly added by his size.

wouldn't you put him close to that point right now? He pounds on jobbers, takes out tag teams by himself and gets the pinfall by putting them on top of eachother and pinning them at the same time...

EDIT: this post was meant for Porter, shoulda quoted I guess...

They already did that, somewhat with Brock Lesnar.

They had the whole "SLEEPING GIANT AWOKEN!" push where, in the span of 2 months he went from jobbing to Jeff Hardy to being the WWE Champion. It was a very effective push that got very over. That period of time was TBS @ his most effective.

Dude, putting over a part time performer at the expense of tag teams isn't the way to portray him as a mythical figure that Andre was. (directed to BL) When I heard the news that they were trying to make him an attraction, I thought, "Oh ok so this means we see Show what, 2 times a year?" but he appears every week like nothing's changed.

well...what we really need to do is look at the absurdity of trying to create a figure similar to Andre in this day and age...Andre is kind of a one shot deal, no one will care about another version after seeing the first one...

I liked him with Paul E. Put the giant in a suit and let him be a bad guy. And I know he was a heel, but does someone THAT SIZE need run in help from a balding fat little man...that could have been a good run.

The Big Show made Brock look good? You need to turn that around.

No. He got it right the first time.

The problem combining Show and Paul E was that it was nothing more than a riff of the much more original Brock and Paul E.

And yes, Show was being pushed pretty hard while he was working around Brock. There wasn't only the match that ended the streak, but after WM 19 Kurt and Brock buddied up against Show and a bunch of big fat heels. Show chokeslammed both guys and tossed them around with ease and the big fat heel group went over the team of "Two Guys Working Together Who Just Main Evented At WrestleMania Because They're Both Supposed To Be Technical Wrestling Gods."

There is hope for Show. He's a very charismatic guy, but Vince seems to think that huge guys should always be portrayed as unintelligent berzerkers.

The only way Big Show made Brock look good was by being a large weight for Brock to toss around.

Show will never be as big as he could have been, because his first few years in the company were screwed up royally. How many times has he turned from heel to face and back again? Countless. They killed any momentum he ever had and he'll never be a big time, franchise player because of it.

Which is unfortunate, because as far as ambassadors for the company in the media go, Show's one of the best.

It would be nice to see Show utilized properly, he has always been one of the better big men and he has personality aswell.

They screwed up Big Show by letting Austin pin him in that debut Raw match. I thought they were going to have Paul Wight go the proposed Dr. Death route and have the Stunner have no effect on him. That, or Austin wouldn't have been able to execute the Stunner due to Wight's size and strength.

I liked it when Show was explaining to Angle what an 'epiphany' was. I think they could do a Batista-type run with him - big man (and I mean BIG) who has good charisma, seems intelligent and most of the time is a fairly nice, easy-going guy... but you don't want to get him pissed.
