Guest clockworkraven Report post Posted October 14, 2005 Over a dozen Smackdown wrestlers were fined $500 for showing up late to the tapings this week according to a source familiar with the situation. The fines inflammed an already hostile WWE locker room full of wrestlers who have lost all respect for John "Johnny Ace" Laurinaitis, who first instituted the fine system when he was in WCW. Several people in WWE blame Laurinaitis for the way Jim Ross has been treated over the years and believe he pushed Ross out of his talent relations job by stabbing him in the back every chance he had and by continuing to poison Ross to the McMahon family. Guest Amy Ace Report post Posted October 14, 2005 I knew from his WCW track record there was gonna be trouble when the WWE made Ace VP of Talent Relations over Ross. Whatever happened to the "we don't want WCW's leftovers" mentality? BTW- John Laurinaitis brings shame to the good name of all of us Aces !

JustJoe2k5 0 Report post Posted October 14, 2005 If they knew the fine system was in effect, why exactly would they get mad after showing up late? Maybe Johnny Ace was driving the bus with all of them in it and purposely made them all late because he needed some money for the strip clubs.
MillenniumMan831 0 Report post Posted October 14, 2005 A $500 fine for some of the guys pretty much means they're working for free or maybe even at a loss after travel expenses are figured in. The irony is if one of the golden boys who can certainly afford it (UT, JBL, ect) showed up late, I'm sure they'd be exempt from paying up. It's ridiculous. Guest Gary Busey Report post Posted October 14, 2005 Yeah, I don't understand the problem. The late fines are well known and they shouldn't have show up late. Sounds like 1bob is trying to spin this against Ace. Maybe if they were helping kids in a burning building or something it would be alright.
Guest Y2DAYDAY Report post Posted October 14, 2005 Well, how would your boss like it if you came to work late, apparently on a regular basis? That is a cardinal rule for WWE guys on TV. Never be late. Hell, the guy that could be late all of the time, HHH, is apparently one of the first ones there and one of the last ones there. If he can do it, then an undercard guy that may be lucky to even have a job should be able to show up on time.
Eclipse 0 Report post Posted October 14, 2005 It shouldn't be a problem, since 500 bucks is a lower amount for most of the guys there, but it will ADD up if it keeps happening.
Guest Y2DAYDAY Report post Posted October 14, 2005 Yeah, that is the point. The fine is there so they learn to come to work on time. Is all of this really that hard to understand?
Guest ABOBO Report post Posted October 14, 2005 It'd be different if WWE paid for travel expenses. As it is with the wrestlers being labeled as independent contractors, it's rather silly.
Guest Amy Ace Report post Posted October 14, 2005 LOL They need the $500 bucks to spend money on dress clothes, so they don't break the dress code rule.
Guest Y2DAYDAY Report post Posted October 15, 2005 What does it matter if they pay or not? It doesn't matter who pays, it matters whether they arrive to the Arena on time. Does your boss give you gas money for you to drive to work? The issue is the guys are showing up late and then being fined. There really is no excuse. All they have to do is show up at TV when they are supposed to, I think noon or 1, then they are allowed to leave the building at times to go to the gym or for other things. The top guys should be allowed to be late because they are driving the business. Even at that, no reports of top guys being late have come out. The bottom guys are easily replaceable(just ask Matt Morgan, Charlie Haas, etc.) and should be doing everything they can to keep their jobs.
JustJoe2k5 0 Report post Posted October 15, 2005 To assume top guys don't get fined is kind of crazy. We probably don't hear about it because they don't make as much of a fuss about it.
MillenniumMan831 0 Report post Posted October 15, 2005 So the next time you show up late to work and the boss fines you $25, don't fuss.
The Robfather 0 Report post Posted October 15, 2005 Was there extenuating circumstances as to why they showed up late? If not, then I can't fault the WWE for fining them.
haVoc 0 Report post Posted October 15, 2005 A lot of the younger guys go out partying after events. Their beer money equals more a month then what they chip in for rent a cars. You fine them, take their beer money, they go to bed early and get to the arena on time.
Black Lushus 0 Report post Posted October 15, 2005 I agree...if there's a rule stating you must be somewhere on time, be there on time..plain and simple...if any of my employees show up late, I write them up...they continue to show up late, I fire them...again, plain and simple...if you can't afford the $500 fee, well I guess you better start having your ass in on time everytime...what is so ridiculous about this notion? thecitythesky 0 Report post Posted October 15, 2005 So the next time you show up late to work and the boss fines you $25, don't fuss. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Man, when I was a manager of a district HQ I used to get a $100 bonus every month for simply doing my job and having the place clean and up on time. Now, that seems simple enough (and was, more or less, factored into my salary) but if I fucked up once, once, I lost said bonus. Really, all they're asking is that people do the job they've been asked/assigned to do. None of this is really unreasonable.
Downhome 0 Report post Posted October 17, 2005 From NoDQ, which they got from the PWInsider "Elite" site I believe: Source: PWInsider As previously reported, several wrestlers were fined by WWE for showing up late to a SmackDown taping recently. Management had someone sit at the door and write down the times of everyone who arrived late, then report back to managemet. The wrestlers who have been fined range from Scotty Too Hotty who hasn’t done anything big on TV in ages, all the way to the champion Dave Batista. JBL, Randy Orton, and all three of the Mexicools were also fined for being late.
