Yes. It was Mike Piazza, and it was a spring training game. Mota didn't exactly turn and run, but he threw his glove at Piazza and backpeddled.

Mota also missed time with elbow inflammation. If you're concerned about blisters and muscle strains, you should be triplely concerned about a pitcher flirting with injuries on his pitching arm.

I'm always concerned about pitchers suffering from any injuries, more-so than position players. I don't know why, but it probably has something to do with watching fragile Pedro for so long along with seeing his brother Ramon and Bret Saberhagen both go down with career ending injuries here.

 

Here are the scouting reports on all the prospects involved (taken from SoxProspects.com which seems as though it hasn't had the profiles updated since before the 2005 season with some players)

 

Harvey Garcia - Garcia's fastball tops out around 96 mph, with excellent command . Very confident on the mound. He relies very heavily on his fastball, but he occasionally utilizes an average breaking ball and a unrefined changeup.

 

Jesus Delgado - A hard-throwing righty, Delgado had TJ surgery two years ago. Hasn't played since the Dominican Summer League in 2001. Struggled at Augusta in 2004.

 

Anibal Sanchez - Sanchez was raised around a lot of pro players while growing up in Venezuela. Throws a two-seam and a four-seam fastball that tops out in the mid-90s with excellent control. Also throws an excellent deceptive changeup and a consistently improving curve. Good confidence and poise on the mound. Previously experienced nerve problems in his throwing arm, which he has seemingly now fully recovered from. Learned English quickly. Front-of-the rotation potential.

 

Hanley Ramirez - Athletic five-tool shortstop with great instincts, above average speed, and all-star potential. Makes excellent contact. Very good range with a top-notch arm. Displays power potential, but the numbers have yet to show it. Had some disciplinary problems earlier in his career, many of which have been attributed to dealing with a great deal of hype and earlier immaturity. Has been a model citizen in recent seasons. Almost all reports have listed Ramirez as the #1 prospect in the organization for years now - he signed at the age of sixteen. It has also been said that Hanley enjoys playing in front of large crowds, which actually has been reflected in his stats. He loves playing the game and almost always wears a smile on his face. He has adjusted well at nearly every level, improving his game preparation and self discipline annually. He has the tools and abilities to switch to center field or third base down the line. Highest ceiling in organization.

 

All prospects are 21 years old.

Buster Olney said in an radio interview last night that theres a 50/50 chance Mike Cameron is the 06 Yankees CF. His reasoning? That Cashman and Towers are best friends, and that Cameron in San Diego makes sense. Sounds like BS.

 

He also said Pavano and/or Sheffield could be traded.

The Sox, according to a major league source with direct knowledge of the negotiations, threatened to call off the deal because of health concerns over Beckett unless the Marlins included Mota. And so, on the busiest shopping day of the year, the Sox can sit back today pleased with not only a full cart of goods but what appears to be at bargain prices.

 

Marlins must have really wanted Hanley Ramirez. I've had shoulder tendonitis before and it only took about 4 weeks to completely heal (also had a partially torn bicep and elbow bricitis with it). I'd have more concern over Beckett's oblique after watching Tim Hudson.

Nobody's going to take Sheffield unless they plan on giving him an extension. Everyone knows about Sheff and how he plays when he doesn't get an extension in the last year of his contract.

I think if he gets an extension, we'd be able to trade him for Torii Hunter, since the Twins did want Thome. Sheffield would give them some offense, and they can just move a resigned Jones or Lew Ford to center.

The Red Sox trade is the biggest train robbery since the Red Sox aquired Derek Lowe and Jason Varitek in a trade years ago. Mota will really help the bullpen, Lowell will hit well in Fenway, and Beckett will be a great pitcher for at least five more years. Sure, we had to give up Hanley, but he was log-jammed by Edgar Renteria anyway. I believe he was overrated anyway, just look at his Double-A stats.

Lowell is a dead-pull hitter, and I believe had 30+ doubles last year despite his low average.

If I end up posting several different things in a row then you'll have to excuse me as I was out all day at the grandparent's house. I'm checking all my little online sources for things not reported in this thread as of yet.

 

Peter Gammons is saying the Red Sox are getting sick of looking for takers for Manny and might just go to the Mets and request Carlos Beltran and then agree to take Steve Trachsel(sp?)'s contract to even up the money. Omar Minaya still plans on talking to the Red Sox and then to Manny to see if he can interest him in being a Met.

 

Its interesting because Gammons said on WEEI towards the trade deadline that a Mets source said that Beltran found it difficult to play in New York and wasn't enjoying it. The same source told Gammons that all Mets players would be available except for David Wright.

 

With Xavier Nady able to play CF its a deal that could be done. I mean the Mets would have a solid line-up 1-5

New York Post is saying the Mets have contacted Bengie Molina's agent, and while they haven't made an offer as of yet the two sides are discussing things as Molina "has an interest in the Mets".

Assuming it occurs, that BJ Ryan signing might be the height of insanity, at least that I have seen in quite some time. $9.5 Million a year for a closer?! Meanwhile, smart guys like Doug Melvin will keep turning Dan Kolbs and Derrick Turnbows into closers for the league minimum.

Riccardi has more money than he knows what to do with, I think. If he doesn't spend it, people complain. If he spends it, though, people will complain that he overpaid (even if he doesn't, though he did in this case).

 

I like Ryan, and this contract is insane, but if the Jays didn't sign him someone else would have for just as much.
