Bound For Glory OaO thread

Recommended Posts

Well, reading about it sold me on the promotion. I'm definitely going to watch. Their actions have slowly eroded my thoughts that they were WCW in exile, now I think of them as a sort of ECW kinda place. Sounds cool. I'll definitely watch/tape this.

rawmvp, you're an idiot. I mentioned you should be banned. Not because you dissed my "beloved TNA". Anyone that sees me in this thread knows I think TNA sucks and is horrible. But for responding like a blatant troll in a PPV thread by posting the SAME unfunny "Trips and HBK talk" thing after someone bashed it and told you to go away. You're a troll who baits people with unfunny posts and news that turns out to be false.

rawmvp, you're an idiot.

You're one of very few who thought it was "unfunny." This was the first time that I had posted about the "Trips and HBK talk." And when did I post news that turned out to be false? I'm very meticulous about the news that I post; I don't fuck around with that.

I'm not a troll.

You know what I've learned about this board compared to the other non-wrestling related boards that I visit? That the people on here are the most pessimistic, cynical, caustic, carping people I've ever seen in my entire life. I don't know if your lives are largely boring, or if you guys have an over-inflated image of yourselves, or if you try to compensate for liking something that is pervasively seen as ludicrous by all mediums by attempting to SEEM unique or cool by indiscriminately lambasting others; but your negativity and acrimony regarding me is starting to wear thin.

Grow up and realize that I'm not here to personally entertain or please you. You don't like me? Ignore me. Many of your posts have been absurd, and many of them have failed to impress me. However, I never once judged your character or the person behind the computer screen responsible for the words on the page. I never once wailed on the board to get you or anyone else banned.

For you to specifically point me out is blatantly indicative of how boring as shit your life is. If I read something I don't like, or if I find one of the posters on here abrasive, I just keep reading through and think nothing of it. But you can't forget it, you dwell on it and become engulfed by it. SAD.

Some of you are just fucking nuts.

This PPV was shaped by the ABSENCE of KEVIN FUCKING NASH. The PRESENCE of Kevin Fucking Nash is gonna have a bad enough impact on a PPV, let alone the biggest PPV this company has ever produced, and they had to shape it around his absence.

There's no excuse, this "oh it's a good story because he went through all this and now Raven is gonna be mad and blah diddly" is just crap, a guy they WEREN'T building to now has the title just so people can dellude themselves into thinking this was worth 30-40 bucks because Jarret didn't leave with the title.

*KNK*, WWE being shitty is NOT and NEVER WILL BE a point in TNA's favor. Just the fact that you have to reach to another fed for justification should alert people. Between this thread and the Raw threads where you go on and on about how shitty the show you CHOOSE to watch is, I'm suprised people even bother worrying about rawmvp's.

This show was a huge dissapointment no matter how you slice it. Some people think the best match was on the pre show, Joe/Lyger went 7 fucking minutes which doesn't make sense in any context, the advertised main event was changed THE DAY OF THE SHOW to some fly by the seat of your pants gaunlet shit we've seen a couple times over now, and all because Jarret lost to ANOTHER HEEL this is somehow not only a good PPV, but a good outing for what's supposed to be the best PPV they could possibly put together? NEWS FLASH, that was it, that's the best TNA is planning to offer. That's what they'll build to each year, that's the end result. It's what they're supposed to be proud of.

I've given them chance after chance but this fed just isn't getting it. The new bookers aren't helping and probably won't. The promises of less Jarret aren't gonna be kept. In another year this fed will STILL be teasing a New Age Outlaw reunion. Joe looks like he's about to go through a credibility shredder once he hits this horrible ME scene, and the coolest new gimmick match you've come up with is a toss up between something that never works and something that just sounds comical.

I give up on this travesty of a fed.

I bought the PPV to see the Samoa Joe vs. Liger match. Although that match didn't live up to my expectations, there was enough solid action and wrestling throughout the PPV to make me feel good about buying it.

I don't know a lot about TNA, and I didn't have a strong connection to most of the wrestlers, but I thought they wove a rather interesting storyline throughout the evening, that had a pay-off in the main event.

Quick thoughts:

-Monty Brown is a better wrestler than I thought he would be. He's got a fairly deep moveset for a power wrestler, and is just bristling with energy. I know many would disagree, but as a finisher, The Pounce isn't all that bad. It's no worse than the Gore or Spear, and I think it actually looks more explosive, because, bodies and limbs are flying all over the ring. In my mind's eye, the moment of impact from The Pounce looks like a Jack Kirby comic book panel brought to life.

-I was NOT to be impressed with Monster's Ball, but...wow! A fine effort by everyone involved. Please don't use the Rhinodriver again.

-Can anyone imagine Vince McMahon pushing Sonjay Dutt without putting him in a turban, Nehru jacket, and forcing him into some sort of "Wrestling Quickie Mart clerk" gimmick? I didn't think so. Good for TNA for pushing him properly.

-Styles and Daniels are great together. The story seemed simple enough. They threw everything in their arsenal at one another, so at the end, when they were reduced to throwing elbows and punches, it was as compelling as a suicide dive off the rafters.

-I think Rhino's a great choice as champion. Although he's primarily booked as a brawling, power wrestler, he's a surprisingly good mat wrestler, too.

I just don't understand how you guys can say that Samoa Joe would've been a better decision. Not only do casual fans have no clue who the guy is, but he is far from ready for a run with the title. Kevin Nash's late scratch really put TNA in a terrible position, alot like WWE back in '99 where Steve Austin had to have surgery and they were forced to give the title to Big Show. The positive is that Rhino would be recognized by casual fans and TNA seems to be pushing him as an unstoppable force like ECW did in '99-'00. It all boils down to that there were alot less better choices and a whole lot more worse choices TNA could've made.

I thought the show was good for what it offered. It's not WWE, it shouldn't be made to look like WWE. It has to remain a completely different option, that's the only way it's going to survive.

Samoa Joe-Liger could have gotten at least 15 minutes...but it does show Samoa Joe has what it takes to eventually be the centerpiece around what TNA would build its organization.

Problem was the main event was thrown together...and it really was as what can you do at the last minute? I hope this is a wake-up call to the TNA booking committee to stop pinning your hopes on old, washed-up WWE has-beens to fill in the pieces. We've seen this since Day 1 when they'd rather fill big spots with Nash, DDP, etc...when they have guys like Daniels, Styles, and Monty Brown to build up to take the place of the Jarretts of the world here.

I really didn't see that much from Samoa Joe last night. I knew he would beat Liger going in but the match was only mediocre and a bit short. After hearing so much about Joe I expected....more?

I said it in previous threads but what they need is to focus on guys that are new to the first time viewer. Most people don't know Monty Brown, use that to your advantage. He's big, he's black, he destroys people. If he'd drop the idiotic Serengeti stuff he'd be quite marketable. Few people know Abyss outside of TNA circles....use that advantage. These guys don't have any baggage (unlike Jarrett and Rhino, who are retreads that right or wrong carry a stigma of sorts).

It's easier to convince people that a guy is great when they've never even seen him before than it is to take career midcarders and try to put world titles on them.

I enjoyed the event a lot. I thought the matches were really good, especially Monster's Ball, Ultimate X, Monty Brown vs. Lance Hoyt, and AMW vs. The Naturals.

I loved how Rhino won Monster's Ball, then won the Gauntlet Elimintation, then finally won the World Championship. That was totally awesome and something really special to see. Rhino showed a lot of heart and determination and I was really glad to see him get the gold.

AMW and The Naturals have great chemistry. Every one of their matches just gets better. This is one feud that I never ever get tired of seeing.

Monty Brown is one of my favorite wrestlers today. Lance Hoyt is a really good up and comer and he and Brown worked an awesome match. Very good give and take here from both men made this match really enjoyable.

Ultimate X was cool. It reminded me of the first Ultimate X when the X-Division Belt fell twice. I'm sure there'll be a lot of criticism for the X falling last night night, but hey that's life. Not everything is going to play out perfectly. With that said, I totally understand how people would feel that the finish was bad, but I thought it was cool and different and brilliant move on Petey's part.

They should have just given the title shot to the winner of the Monster's Ball. Then they could have achieved the same result without having to cut Joe/Liger or other matches short.

Lance Hoyt has a lower-back tatoo. That man likes men.

I cannot like this man in anything he does. Brown carried his ass last night. Have him feud with Nash so at least the shit doesn't spread out to other feuds.

Lance Hoyt is one of those guys you realize is there because for whatever reason the crowd loves him. I don't mind it too much, it's better to use an over wrestler who sucks in the ring as opposed to a not over wrestler who sucks in the ring like WWE does

If anything, Rhyno is regarded as ECW  superstar rather then a WWE cast-off.

Well, I hope so. But keep in mind that most WWE marks never heard of ECW until ONS.

WWE needs some legitimate competition in the worst way.

Are you kidding me??

Maybe, just MAYBE if the mark was 12-14 when ECW started....

I just cannot believe you said that.

People need to leave alone the notion that every wrestler is judged by what/how they did in WWE/WCW and even in ECW for that matter.  If a promotion is worth a damn, they can take in guys who can work a match, and entertain a crowd, and get them over.  Hell why is anyone complaining about Rhyno being a "WWE lackey" when it has been Jarrett of all people riding with the belt most of the time.

IMO, Rhyno winning the Monsters ball match did enough to make him look worthy in casual fans' minds.

The Monsters ball match was entertaining and fun, and I find it annoying that the same people who came away from that match with a "meh" attitude are the ones who salivate over TLC matches when those spots took about 10x longer to set up and there was 100x more stalling.  Just enjoy a garbage weapons match for what it is for christs sake.

100% agreed. I thought that it was going to suck, but it didn't. And it was all set up by Rhino getting right in Raven's face and dissing him hard. I should have seen it coming from that point forward, but I was convinced that was a little throwaway or something to set up a Raven vs. Rhino feud, which might happen at Genesis, now that I think about it.

Rhino did more than enough to win the title last night. I think that PPVs get overanalyzed to the point where anything that was done was the best or the worst thing ever. Could they have done better?? Hell fucking yes, they could have. But all things considered, I don;t think that $30 I spent on the buy to be a waste.

Why did anyone think Monster's Ball would suck? Hell that was the match I was most looking forward to. It was the only surefire, can't miss match on the show. Iron Man matches tend to be hit or miss, so I thought that might be up in the air (it turned out to be pretty decent but hardly a MOTY). I thought the Ultimate X might not be too great since I've never liked the gimmick in the past. But Monster's Ball? Hell yeah. Put 3 vicious psychos and 1 insane Hardy in a violent hardcore brawl...how could it miss?

And Curry I am glad you mentioned Hoyt's lower back tat. I saw that and was like "What the fuck? I've only seen girls with a tattoo on the lower back." Seeing that in fact actually distracted from the match, haha.

I slept on it and now I like what they did with Rhino winning last night.

If you step away from the reasons why Monty or Joe couldn't be in that spot...and think about it from a purely storyline sense...

Having someone unexpected win the title makes sense...for that one night.

Nash's injury created a storyline opportunity for anyone to get a shot.

With Rhino winning 3 matches (including the bloody weapons highspot match)...from a storyline standpoint...it was just his night.

That happens in real sports all the time. On one given day...a team or a guy can beat someone they aren't supposed to...just because that's the nature of sports.

And...again...they couldn't throw out the long term plans for Brown, Joe or even Raven just because Nash was injured.

I'm trying to put myself in the position of someone who ordered the show based on seeing the Spike TV month...and it is pretty cool to watch Rhino survive hell and pull the upset.

I thought it would suck because of Jeff Hardy and Sabu. Abyss works well in these kind of matches (and I am discovering that he works well period, especially that he has James Mitchell as his mouthpiece), and we all know Rhyno's history.

I thought that Sabu would not be able to do half of what he could do back in his heyday in ECW, that his body was just too broken down to take that kind of punishment, and I was wrong to think so.

And I never was a huge fan of Jeff Hardy, that his willingness to take high risks (like that insane swanton onto Abyss) and absorb huge bumps (like the Rhinodriver) overshadowed his lack of ability. I know, I know; we all watch him for his particular brand of insanity.

And the constant hyping of the "they're locked away for 24 hours, no food, no water" angle. That's just unnecessary, considering each of the four mens' bodies of work over the years, and it smacks of WCW at its lowest point. Its just not needed. Let their reputations speak for them in this match.

With all that being said, I was very entertained by the match.

And Lance Hoyt is the #1 reason why TNA needs to expand out of Orlando. He is a fucking disaster in the ring, excellent moonsault aside, but he is a favorite of the regulars in the crowd.

Not to mention the song they sing when Abyss is around. Ye fucking gods.

If I recall correctly..that was Raven's brainchild heading into the first Monsters Ball.

This time around...they didn't make as big of a deal out of it because Rhino had to come out for the preshow.

The first match...they said they had just been released from the rooms...and they all played like the light was hurting their eyes. They even showed videos of them locked away.

Are you kidding me? Yikes.

It just goes to show that not everything Raven dreams up is wrestling gold, despite what his marks might think. Is he one of the smartest men in the business? Without question. Then again, all of that might have been necessary when the match debuted, but certainly not now.

Never mind each of the four men are among the most high-risk, hardcore wrestlers still in the ring today, but lets turn them into borderline animals just to get over the brutality you will see in the ring. Ugh.

Haven't watched a WWE PPV in over a year so just looking at BFG in isolation, I thought it was an alright show but fell far short of what it needed to be in terms of being TNA's marque event.

Personally I think putting the belt on Rhyno is dumb, surprised at the lengths some normally level headed people are going to in order to justify it. I've no sympathy for them with regards to Nash having to pull out - he should never have been in that position in the first place.

BFG wasn't too great, which isn't good considering it was TNA's biggest PPV of the year. I know Nash became ill recently and TNA had to scramble for new booking plans because of it, but they still should have had a "Plan B" since Nash is always too much of a risk for a main-event, whether it's unreliability or sudden health problems.

Sadly enough, the MOTN was on the PRE-SHOW instead of the PPV.

I hope TNA gets their shit together for Genesis.

Good points why the Rhino title change really IS, all things considering, not a bad move for TNA for the time being, BPS. I was going to pretty much say alot of what you said here, but you beat me to it. One thing I do want to mention though is that, as I think we all know, the intention long term is to build to Monte Brown winning the world title. Personally, I'd much rather see Rhino/Brown for the title switch over Brown/Jarrett. So with that said, I think Rhino should hold the belt until Brown beats him for it in perhaps 2/3 months time. There is really no need for it to be transitioned back to Jarrett at this point, as its more torturous than anything. He got the belt back for the Spike debut, case closed.

As far as the show itself, I am baffled by statements like "dissapointment on any level" etc - while this wasnt the best TNA ppv to date (and going into it, I wasnt expecting that, I think that is part of the problem with people being dissapointed - so many high expectations) I still think it definately had its strong points, and sure, here and there some filler that wasnt needed. But did the bad really outweigh the good? Not by my opinion.

The opener 4 way match was tremendous and one of the best matches of the night, if not THE best. Styles-Daniels was surely up there too as was the Monsters Ball match. *** 3/4, would have gotten **** easy with a little bit more time.

Joe and Liger, what can you say. The intros made the match right there seem like it was going to be a classic for the ages. Unfortunately you can't have any sort of classic with a little over 10 minutes given for one thing. The guys didnt seem to mesh as well as I would have thought and generally I think everyone's expectations here were so high, which hurt the overall bottom line too. Liger, at least in this match, wasnt as impressive as he was before in other matches I've seen him from in the past. ***

The six man tag with Diamond and Co. at least had a purpose but I still felt it was generally un-needed. All of the guys really worked hard though including a bowling ball type dive by David Young of all people. Some actually good stuff here if you take away the bias that all of them are virtual jobbers. Seems like the Diamonds are going to be getting a push with the win. ** 3/4

Brown-Hoyt was about what I expected - nothing exciting but a surefire way to put over Brown. **

3LK v. Team Canada was a match that didnt really need to be on the card overall, but you had the Kip James stuff there that served its purpose. Seen this match so many times they all seem the same between these teams. * 1/2

Don't know what to think of the Ultimate X match. It was going just great and then the problems with the X staying up just fucked up the match entirely and made it basically an incomplete match. Dont agree with the booking if that was meant to be a scripted screwjob ending just to build to a rematch at another date (Spike special?) as this should have been settled on ppv, period. Cant really give a suitable match rating due to the mess at the end.

AMW and Naturals was fun stuff, although the crowd was kind of dead, which surprised me. Definately not the best match these teams have had together, but more than good enough considering the change in roles for the teams as every other match they did other than the Spike show match was the Naturals as the heels and AMW as faces ***

Monsters Ball was probably one of the better garbage style matches I've seen in a long time, most definately in many months in TNA. That Hardy dive was just plain nuts - either I was really stoned or that seemed like a crazy distance to do that move, much less hit it flawlessly. Rhino going over was the only finish due to the title switch later. *** 3/4

Ironman 2 was another excellent match between the two, but to be honest the first 15 minutes was pretty blah. The rest of the match made up for it, as especially the last 7-8 minutes were just amazing stuff. The unintentional bump Styles took on the stairs looked painful. The finish was well done, yet the crowd didnt really feel it, kind of caught them off guard. I think everyone was expecting another overtime deal. Good use of playing up that both guys were just worn out near the end there. Good drama. ****

Gauntlet match was pretty much nothing to crow about, but I did like the interaction they did with Joe/Abyss and others. Brown's elimination - something was screwed up there and generally you dont make an upcoming champion look that shitty in theory. ** 1/2

Main event didnt have much time to even get off the ground but it put over Rhino strong. Again, much like Styles-Daniels, I dont think the crowd expected the finish at all and it completely caught them off guard. Angle at the end was alright and unexpected with the Duds showing up. I would assume this was going to be the same stuff they would have done with Nash there, other than just having Nash job to Jarrett and then Jarrett and Co. would try to put Nash in the casket.

Show probably gets about a B or so. I agree that this ppv in theory should have been a homerun, no question about it. So I can see in that respect why some are letdown.

Why did anyone think Monster's Ball would suck?

Aside from the fact that Jeff Hardy is broken down and too many people don't realize that Sabu is better now than he was between 2000 and his surgery, most people don't seem to like hardcore wrestling. Which is very interesting, considering when you ask what some of the greatest matches in recent memory are, some of the most common names (Foley, HHH, Austin, etc.) work a pretty violent, semi-hardcore style in their big main event matches. Which is, once again, why I hate HHH saying that hardcore wrestling is just two guys hitting each other with shit, since his career has been made off of 3 matches (Ladder match vs. Rock @ SummerSlam '98; Streetfight vs. Cactus Jack @ Royal Rumble '00; and HIAC III vs. Cactus), basically.

But yeah. I may order the replay just to see the Monster's Ball match and the return of the Rhino-Driver (since Rhino has the sickest piledriver I've ever seen).

While I'm not against Rhyno, it does seem that he was picked over some candidates that would make a lot more sense. TNA has been dissapointing me with its booking, using Impact as almost a B style show exclusively to hype its PPVs. The house show title switch was stupid, putting Jeff Hardy on every show is stupid, booking Kevin Nash is stupid... Just so much crap... Its hard to get behind the company when its making decisions that don't make any sense.

The thing is, though, is that other than hotshotting the title on someone like Ron Killings or Abyss perhaps (however, both still need to be familarized to the new audience they are reaching) - there really wasnt any other options other than Jarrett retaining. And that sure as hell would have been a weak way to end that ppv anyway you slice it.

Samoa Joe is first and foremost suited towards the X division. Give him that belt, build him up even further (he just debuted on Spike over the weekend, much more time has to be given to establish him to the newbies) and then maybe we can talk about giving him the world title.

There seems to be a direct and straight forward direction with Monte Brown. While I would have loved to see him get the belt last night, again, hotshotting the booking plans that are already in tact is questionable at best.

Same goes for Raven. I think there is a long term idea here with him and having him win the belt again out of nowhere last night would have ruined those plans.

With that said, Rhino did seem the best choice overall when one really does give it some thought. He's already been given a nice push ever since he came in, he's a name that the folks from watching WWE will recongnize, and add the fact that he is the last ECW world champion and the guy does have credibility in that sense. Plus as I've said before, I feel Rhino/Brown could be a very nice world title program if they would believe in it. Pounce v. Gore!!

Ideally anyone at this point other than Jarrett as champion is fine by me.
