What happened to horror movies on Halloween?

What the fuck is the movie Big Bully doing on my TV today? Forget the fact that no movie with its main star being Tom Arnold should ever be on TV, but its Halloween. I've seen maybe 4 classic horror films on TV all week. Hellraiser, Hellbound :Hellraiser II, Friday the 13th, and A Nightmare on Elm Street. Otherwise its been absolute garbage with terrible Sci-Fi channel original films.

 

This is like the first year in forever that the movie Halloween wasn't even on. Besides the four movies previously put in the first paragraph, there is a list of movies that must be played on Halloween (or the weekend prior to it)

playing the original Friday the 13th followed up by the stupid Feldman the 13th edition and Feldman's character all growed up the 13 edition back-to-back 6 times doesn't cut it.

Exorcist is on Cinemax at 9. And Poltergeist is on TCM at 7. That's the only two I see so far, better than nothing, I guess. Better than watching Raw.

Halloween 3 is one of the worst movies ever made. End of story. Flat out sleep inducing. 4 is probably the best of the later sequels.

 

I think TCM is having some Hitchcock stuff on tonight, Psycho is on now. Not exactly HORROR though. Personally I'd suggest getting the Universal box sets of Drac, Frank, Wolfman, Mummy, etc. Also the recently released Val Lewton collection.

Basically, Halloween 2 is in tv rights hell. No one wants it and those who happen to can't seem to get their hands on it cause it's confusing as to who owns it. Same goes for a lot of good horror movies from the 80's.

 

AMC at least tried but it's stil AMC. I recorded The Birds, Psycho, White Zombie and a few others off TCM today but that's really it.

 

Halloween is one step from losing it's holiday status it seems.

AMC did all right with Monstervision, but they would have done better to replay the Hellraisers and the like a little more often, and Scream 2 and Tremors a lot less. Much as I love Tremors, that shit was on like every four hours this week.

Well if you have Comcast OnDemand there is a bunch of stuff. First 3 Child's Play, Hellraiser, Amityville Horror, etc.

IFC had good movies over the weekend and tonight. TCM has had alot of good old Hammer type stuff airing in the late night/early morning for the past few weeks.

 

Seems that TCM considered the Hitch movies as being part of their Halloween schedule.

Maniac is on IFC at the moment. That's about as creepy and sadistic of a horror movie as you could hope to come across.

 

I agree with the complaints about AMC. Every year I look forward to the horror movies they show for Halloween, but this year it was just the same 10 or so movies looped over and over. At least I got to see Stephen King's Graveyard Shift a couple times, which is a guilty pleasure of mine. It was also good to see The Hitcher, but thats more of a suspense than anything else.

 

In the same tradition that the Christmas Story is shown on TNT for 24 hours every year for Christmas, I think some channel needs to air Halloween back to back, all day long. If I can't have that, at least air classics like Dawn of the Dead, Nightmare on Elm Street, Friday the 13th, Hellraiser and Child's Play. Hell, it would be nice to see the Creepshows get some play on Halloween.

Why is anyone shocked? Look, AMC SUCKS nowdays. It has sucked ever since roughy Halloween 2000 when I recorded Supernatural (with Carol Lombard) and found that they had gone to having a commercial break. That was like some disillusioning moment in my life, I swear.

I still like AMC. It's not nearly as good as it use to be, but when compared to the other commercial based movie channels it's not too bad. They air a nice variety of movies, some of questionable worth, you don't see on all the time, and they have some good original programming.

Well I think it's one of the most underrated movies ever. I'm too tired to go into why I thought it was great so I'll just link to a review that could explain it better than me.
