MNF for Nov 7: Colts vs Pats

Recommended Posts

Guest El Satanico

The Patroits were making a big deal out of going for two? Or was it just the fans?

Either way, it's a dumb thing to have an issue with. It would've taken a miracle for NE to come back, but why shouldn't Indy protect themselves against that miracle? If Indy kicked the XP and then lost 42-41 on a miracle, everyone would be reaming Dungy for not going for two.

Wild prediction: In the irony to end all ironies, Indy gets over the New England hump only to lose in the playoffs to Denver

I actually said this same thing to someone while watching the game tonight, and I think it is very possible.

People are now saying that this wasn't a very big game for the Colts but I disagree. The funny thing about this win is that everyone was saying the Colts needed this to ensure that they don't go back to New England in the playoffs, but it doesn't do that at all. If New England wins the East, which most expect them to, and the Colts don't win the South they might end up having to go to New England anyway. And that is still a very real possibility. The Jags have an easy schedule the rest of the way with a game in Jacksonville against Indy left. And up to this point the Colts have had an easy schedule but now get to the meat of it with games against Cinci, Pittsburgh, San Diego, Seattle, and the one mentioned with the Jags all still to come.

That's why I think this win was so big for the Colts, a loss could have easily led to a freefall. The win shows that they are at least very good.

This game was a huge monkey off Manning's back, there's no way of understating that. From now on, even if the Patriots put a better team on the field than the one's that Peyton couldn't beat, he's going to have a level of confidence that he didn't have before.

Even as a Patriots fan, I can't help but like Peyton Manning. His post game interview was great just for him fighting to keep that smirk from breaking into a full blown shit eating grin. You know he went and got wasted on the flight back to Indy :D

Oh, yeah, I also want to see Dungy finally win the big one. I regard him being fired from Tampa as a huge mistake. He would've gotten us there eventually, and subsequent teams wouldn't have sucked a dick quite in the fashion that they have under Gruden. Dungy is one of the true class acts in the NFL. Under Gruden, I suspect that our reciever corp next year will consists of T.O. and Jerry Rice.

I'd also like to add that, nothing outside of another Patriots championship would be sweeter than seeing Carolina beat Indy in the Super Bowl. That would be just....awesome...on so many levels

The Colts not winning the AFC South? That's fucking retarded. They've got that division so locked up it's not even funny. They have maybe 3 tough road games left, at Cincy, at JAX, and at Seattle. The Chargers and Steelers both have to go to Indy and I think the Colts can win both games.

And yes, I too thought of the goofy scenario of the Colts losing to Denver in the playoffs..but gimme a break. Denver is the single stalest team in the league. The Colts would once against squash them by 3 TDs.

I'm just glad it's over. I got really tired of the "Peyton can't beat the Patriots" hype.

Still wasn't that impressed with what I saw. I mean, I knew New England really wasn't any good but I wasn't impressed by what I saw offensively or defensively by the Colts. Seems like a halfway decent team can roll them.

Nothing was better than this exchange

Roommate: Dude, lookat Peyton's face

Me: And?

Roommate: You know what he's saying. Guys, we're up by two touchdowns, but that's not enough. I'm not losing. SCORE SCORE SCORE!

I still say Indy will likely go into the JAX game undefeated @ 12-0. Too bad they didnt schedule a Miami game this year. I'm predicting a 14-2 finish with a lost to Jax and a moderate upset to Seattle. (No real reason).

Will Big Ben be back for the Indy game? If so, it might be a different story.

The notion of Denver turning the tables on Indy in the playoffs is very warm and fuzzy but I'd rather see the Peyton Face on the biggest level of them all, @ the SB.

It's a shame that NE was pretty much depleted because Peyton isn't getting the proper credit for his win because the networks and the NE fanboys are already offering their excuses like "NE sucks this year" "NE is overloaded on Injury" "It doesnt mean a thing in the regular season"...

Manning won a game that the media and the fans had targeted since the day the schedule was released. Manning has a long history of "blowing" those types of games and last night's victory was a step forward for Peyton.

Dungy is one of the true class acts in the NFL.

Except for the times he goes to the league offices with another member of the Colts office (who also works in the NFL offices somehows) and complains to have rule changes and other rules enforced more strictly to better help his own team. That's why I don't like him. He(along with the other high ranking member of the Colts and also Mike Martz of the Rams)'s literally tried to have the league mold itself in a fashion where high powered offenses with subpar defenses can succeed. Its not surprising the NFL backed their requests though since they think "More offense = more viewers" when that's simply not true. Football fans just plain love the game.

Lol, ESPN has to start the COLTS MAY GO UNDEFEATED talk.

There's no chance of it. The 2nd best team in the AFC already has 2 losses. Plus, Indy plays 2 non-conference teams to end the season... so, they'd clinch home field at 14-0, thus playing their backups the final 2 weeks of the season.

I admit that I'm biased, but if given the chance to play the Colts again, with a healthy Dillon, a healthy Seymour, and a healthier secondary, I wouldn't necessarily be surprised to see the Pats beat the Colts.

Hey, fanboy or not: it's a non-division game, for a team (New England) that would need about 4 teams to absolutely fold to even have a chance at home field in the playoffs. This game really did mean a lot more to Indy than it did to NE. Last week (vs Buffalo) and next week (vs Miami) mean more to the Pats than last night did.

Congratulations to him on winning a regular season game against a non-division opponent. If/when he beats New England in the postseason, and if/when he wins a Super Bowl, I'll sing a different tune. If Manning considers this a big win, he has to re-evaluate the importance of games.

It's not retarded at all. Assuming that Jax wins out, which is very likely given their schedule, the Colts would only have to lose two more games and the jags have the division (likely). I see the Colts losing to Cinci, Pittsburgh, and Jax. So in my eyes it's just all up to the Jags to win the rest of the way and they should given their easy schedule.

Look, the Colts will still beat the Patriots. I don't care what team the Pats field. We can't have it both ways.

When the Pats beat a team hurt by injuries, we still say they beat whoever. No matter what versions they are facing, the players are still part of the Patriots team. Colts are beating the Patriots, end of story.

No excuses.

I see your message really sunk in, 2GOLD!

Not to mention they sorta kinda did some unfair trickery last night that I saw at least 3-4 times with the "ATTACK! ATTACK!" thing they were doing. Essentially, everytime New England was subbing players in between plays, Manning would see that, rush the offense to the line of scrimmage yelling "ATTACK! ATTACK!" and cause the Patriots to be offsides and/or have too many men on the field. I mean, it's technically not illegal, but it feels like they were kind of cheesing it, I guess you could say.

I disagree. How the fuck can anyone say this game was more important for Indy than it is for New England? By losing the game, all the Colts would be is 8-1, still the best record in the league. By losing the game, New England is now 4-4 and only one game ahead of Buffalo and Miami, with three games combined coming against those two teams. This was a very important game for both teams, but it's more important to New England considering their injury situation and their W-L record.

I'm lovin' alf's sig right now, by the way. Awesome.

Does anyone, and I mean ANYONE besides 4hartthreat think Jacksonville will run the table from here? Dude, it's the friggin Jaguars. They aren't all that good. They'll finish their usual boring 10-6 or so. Yes, they are a rough, physical team but they can't score for shit and that will always cost them a few games they should win.

I won't stand to see Chicago ruin another championship event.

Hey, now that New England is 4-4 can we please suspend the BAHAHA DA BEARS ARE THE PADRES OF FOOTBALL HAHA WORST DIVISION LEADERS HAHA

I don't think that was what he was implying, it's just the Bears, as you may very well know, are a very fucking boring team to watch, and the White Sox already ruined the World Series...

No, because the NFC North is still the worst division in football much like the NL West was the worst division in baseball.

Alf, if you could resize that image in your sig a bit it would be appreciated. I don't care about what it says but its so damned big.

Technically, it's not that important to either team: the two teams are in different divisions and most likely are not competing for home field advantage in the postseason. But if I had to pick one side that "needed" it more, I'd say Indy. If they'd lost last night, people would have said "they can't even beat a beaten up NE team" ... but they were able to beat the Pats, and it really should shut up a lot of the nay-sayers.

The three upcoming games against the Bills & Dolphins, along with the two Jets games, are infinitely more important to the Patriots. Only a real die-hard would pretend that they have a chance at the #1 or #2 spot in the AFC, so they really are playing for the Eastern crown and the Eastern crown only. Realistically, NE fans should only concentrate on the East now ... their standing versus the Steelers/Chargers/Broncos/Colts/etc is pretty much irrelevant, in my opinion.

I also agree that the game was more important to Indy. New England is fighting for the AFC East and they don't have a legit shot at homefield. Indy however has their division wrapped up and is fighting for homefield through-out with Denver at this point. Indy has owned Denver to this point but I don't recall any of those games being in Denver and homefield could play alot into that match-up this season.

I didn't make the baby, just the quote bubble. Besides, when one cries that much, their face normally turns that color.

Also, just curious, how does one become a Patriot and Yankee fan, both.
