TNA Announces Major debut @ Genesis

Recommended Posts

The precedent for this has already been set and enforced several times in favor of the individual performer. Vince McMahon had copywrited "The Honky Tonk Man" as his intellectual property, however the copywrite was struck down, as the former Intercontinental Champion was able to prove that he wrestled under the name "Honky Tonk Wayne" in Stampede Wrestling prior to his WWF debut, and was given full control over the name and gimmick. The Ultimate Warrior was also granted rights to the name "Warrior" as well as the character's trademark facepaint and ring attire, as Jim Hellwig was able to prove that he had used the Dingo Warrior gimmick prior to signing a WWF contract.

Well why didn't this work for the Dudleys?

I bet that Christian AND Test will be at Genesis. Test's appearance, though, might only be a one night thing.

Genesis is a must buy now. I was wavering but now I want to see what they do with Christian in addition to the other stuff. That'll be TWO TNA ppv's in a row ;) I'm splurging, gonna have to suck up to the fiance big time.

Probably because ECW came up with The Dudleys thing and Vince owns the rights to all the ECW copyrights.

DEFINITELY go with "Christian Cage" as the name. It's still recognizable, and yet gives a sense of a new beginning for him.

He should get involved with somebody, but definitely not Jarrett. Christian doesn't need to job to JJ, and they don't want to upset their ME plan like they did last time. Have him come out and give a scathing promo on how he was held back in WWE, but now he'll fulfill his true potential. The fans will eat him up as a face, but then have Raven come out, doing his "What about me?" thing. Then a brawl. That sets up Christian vs. Raven at the next show, where Raven can stand to lose since his angle right now is that he's "weak". Christian can then team with Hardy to fued with AMW, or face some other heel. But I can't stress enough how he does NOT need to job to Jarrett as everyone else has.

Why not just have Christian cost Jeff Hardy the number one contendership match and set up a money feud right there? I would imagine a Christian/Jeff Hardy feud would draw in quite a few WWE fans.

It will be impossible to have Christian be a heel right off the bat. Get him involved with Jarrett and have them feud after Jarrett loses the title to Monty Brown. Putting Christian with Jarrett immediately promotes him to the main event level in TNA. He can turn heel later down the line.

I love the comment that having him go with Christian Cage gives him the opportunity to redefine his character some. I completely agree and he needs to be seen as slightly more serious wrestler if he's going to be seen as legitimate in the long term.

Alright, this enticed me to check out Genesis. I wasn't sold on the card yet...but this changes things. My interest is peaked.

9 times out of 10 you have a guy come in as a heel and then let the fans decide when to make him a face. You can't force the fans to cheer for somebody, but they're usually more than willing to boo.

I say you have him come down during the number one contendership match, make it look like he's there to help Hardy, and then at the end he levels Hardy and costs him the match. Later that night have him help JJ beat Rhino. On iMPACT he explain that JJ got him in and he's aligned with him and AMW. If you do this then...

You get the Monty Brown/JJ feud

Hardy/Christian feud

Team 3-D/AMW feud continued

That allows for an eventual 8 man tag, and if later on they wanna go down the road and have Christian beat Monty for the title causing JJ to get jealous and attack Christian...well that's an easy way to turn Christian face right there.

The buzz for Christian on the Net is hot. Imagine if Benoit were to be rumored to come in.

I need Benoit to come to TNA for many reasons, but there is one huge reason I want him to go there.

Chris Benoit vs Samoa Joe. Nuff said

Jarret wins Sunday with his usual tactic and then gets attacked by Christian, who then rants about never again allowing a single worker to hold down everyone else and make some veiled references to WWe.

It may mess up their current ME scene, but it could set up a big angle.

If Christian debuts at Genesis that will make me spunk.

As for Benoit in TNA it would be great for TNA. So many great match possibilities. Not just Joe Vs Benoit which would obviously be great, but Benoit would probably get a better match out of Jarrett than anyone else on that roster. Then there's the new kids on the block, Styles, Daniels, Sabin, Williams. Plus if they ever get the belt onto Monty they have THE perfect guy on board to get him super over. Not only would Brown Vs Benoit produce the best match of Monty's career thus far, but it would give him some huge credibility going over, right off the bat.

Believe it or not, there is a case to be made that with the news of Christian hitting the 'net, this show is just as important, if not more so than BFG because you are going to get a bunch of people who want to see how Christian debuts and exposing them to the rest of the roster. If they end up having a shitty show, you could be turning off a batch of potential viewers. If you have Christian debut that doesnt' suck and have blowaway matches, you may have yourself some momentum to build on.

I'm amazed anyone thinks it's going to be that Nigel dude, or Haas, or Test. The Carter release said it was the biggest signing in TNA history. I can't believe she'd say all that about a Brit no one has ever heard of, or boring old Charlie, or fucking Test.

Has to be Christian. And he has to cut a bitter, ranting promo.

This is very true. Alternatively if you have no Christian debut and something falls through you have a hell of a lot of disappoitned fans who probably won't tune in again.

But yeah, this is a huge show for them. I genuinely do feel that TNA's product is good enough, certainly on in ring quality, that if you can get those fans to check out a show they'll like what they see. It's just getting them to tune in, in the first place.

A Christian debut, if done right and he's made to look like a star then this could be a real winner for them all round.

Christian has the potential to be the real breakout star that TNA needs right now. Just give him the mic, let him run with it, and put him in big time matches and he could be huge. Look how over his mic work at Mania was, he has so much star quality if they can just use him right and has the personality and natural charisma that so much of the TNA roster is lacking in their bid to connect with the fans.

He'll be a face. This is the Orlando crowd we're talkin' about here. They cheered Rhino when he showed up. Aligning Christian with Jarrett is a TERRIBLE idea, as that is what everybody does. When someone new comes to TNA, they either play Jarrett's crony, or they job to him. Christian doesn't need that. He can work a good fued with JJ at some point in the future, but for now, he should win some high profile matches against heels, or team with Hardy against AMW. Just keep him away from the title for now, because not everything has to be about Jarrett.

I've mentioned this before, but I could EASILY see Christian/Hardy vs. AMW vs. Team 3D in a Ladder Match for the NWA World Tag Team Titles at some point.

A drawn out Raven/Christian feud would be pretty damn good. I'd keep Christian away from the Nashville Horsemen for now.

put him up against Raven first. That gives Christian one or two solid PPV wins, and can move the "Raven's gone soft" storyline.

Then go for Christian/Hardy vs. Team 3D vs. AMW.... TABLES LADDERS CHAIRS!!!

Bret Hart should come in leading a real Team Canada of Benoit, Christian, and Jericho.

Or just have Christian sit at ringside like the Radicalz did all the way up until a major point in the show, and have him snap on someone. Followed by a promo backstage.

I'm torn on this. One one hand it'll be huge for the company but part of me thinks they're wasting what could be a better planned-out angle in the long run. Having Christian just show up in The Pit during the main event and not say a word would trigger a lot more interest ala Hall showing up on Nitro. Then again, Hall did talk on Nitro.

I'd have Test show up at the beggining of the show and tell Jarrett that somebody he knows is going to be watching him very closely during the main event. Then Test leaves.
