iggymcfly Posted November 9, 2005 Report Posted November 9, 2005 Oh my god. It's like crack when it's all there in front of you. I did it with Sopranos, I did it with the first season of the OC, I did it with the first season of Lost, and now I'm doing it with the third season of 24. It's just amazing. Every episode leads into the other so well, there's no downtime, there's no commercials, and it's just damn near impossible to tear yourself away from the screen. I got through four episodes tonight, and I just barely managed to pull myself away because I've got homework due at 10 AM. Otherwise, there's not a doubt in my mind that I would have finished the entire season in one sitting. Even now, my brain's buzzing to see what will happen next, and it's almost impossible to get started on my work. I figure I'll give my brain a half an hour to settle by doing something boring (reading forums), and then I'll get to work. Honestly, watching a good TV series all at once like that, it might be better than sex.
Black Lushus Posted November 9, 2005 Report Posted November 9, 2005 you know, I own a few shows on DVD and I've watched them all once...once...it's a fantastic concept, don't get me wrong, but I guess I'm not getting as much pleasure out of rewatching old shows as I thought I would...
Si82 Posted November 9, 2005 Report Posted November 9, 2005 I've done the same thing with the whole run of 24, Buffy and Firefly. It is incredibly addictive. It's also a great way to catch up shows you've missed the first time round. Like with Buffy and Firefly in my case.
nl5xsk1 Posted November 9, 2005 Report Posted November 9, 2005 you know, I own a few shows on DVD and I've watched them all once...once...it's a fantastic concept, don't get me wrong, but I guess I'm not getting as much pleasure out of rewatching old shows as I thought I would... <{POST_SNAPBACK}> ^ Agreed. For most shows, I'd rather just borrow them from friends or rent them or something ... I don't need to see the same episodes countless times for the most part. Having said that, though, I got LOST Season one yesterday, and I'm likely to watch that a few times, primarily to see certain clues or number references that I might have missed in the first viewing.
dubq Posted November 9, 2005 Report Posted November 9, 2005 you know, I own a few shows on DVD and I've watched them all once...once...it's a fantastic concept, don't get me wrong, but I guess I'm not getting as much pleasure out of rewatching old shows as I thought I would... <{POST_SNAPBACK}> I thought I'd be the same way, but it's actually fun to have little marathons with friends when you have the time.
Failed Bridge Posted November 9, 2005 Report Posted November 9, 2005 I don't watch Arrested Development when its on TV but I buy the DVD sets. I figure if strong DVD sales brought back Family Guy then strong DVD sales will keep AD on. I also haven't really watched any of the newer Family Guy episodes after the first 2 or 3. I'll just buy the Volume 3 DVD when it comes out.
Youth N Asia Posted November 9, 2005 Report Posted November 9, 2005 I'm a tv show on dvd whore 24, season 1 Angel seasons, 1-5 Band of Brothers, mini series Buffy, seasons 1-7 Chappelle's Show, seasons 1-2 Clerks, TAS Curb Your Enthusiasm, seasons 1-4 Dead Like Me, seasons 1-2 Deadwood, season 1 Family Guy, vols 1-2 Firefly, the complete series Jeremiah, season 1 The Job, the complete series Law and Order SVU, season 1 Lost, season 1 Nip/Tuck, seasons 1-2 The Office, season 1 Oz, seasons 1-5 Playmakers, the complete series The Shield, seasons 1-3 Six Feet Under, seasons 1-2 Smallville, seasons 1-3 The Sopranos, seasons 1-5 Southpark, season 1
Masked Man of Mystery Posted November 9, 2005 Report Posted November 9, 2005 I've been on the buy TV shows on DVD bandwagon since before it was the popular thing, but that's because I'm big on anime
Zack Malibu Posted November 9, 2005 Report Posted November 9, 2005 Just recently, I got through the first two seasons of Nip/Tuck (a show I had never seen prior to buying) in the span of 9 days, so count me in as one who thinks it's highly addicting.
Slayer Posted November 9, 2005 Report Posted November 9, 2005 Indeed, it can be the only way to watch... even in light of music being clearly changed and/or edited out, or DVD producers using syndicated versions rather than the original episodes
Ravenbomb Posted November 9, 2005 Report Posted November 9, 2005 Yeah, I'll watch an episode of Angel or something, figuring I'll just watch the one episode, and then end up watching the entire rest of the season
bobobrazil1984 Posted November 9, 2005 Report Posted November 9, 2005 I definetly know what you're talking about. I've been using dvds to watch The Sopranos and arrested development, in the past i did it with season 1 of 24. I dont even burn thro em all in one day but i get enough to feel satisfied for a while (2 or 3 episodes will do it). My friend just watched Lost on dvd and I am envious. Its so good that I'm considering skipping a few of the shows i usually watch and switch to DVD later.
nl5xsk1 Posted November 9, 2005 Report Posted November 9, 2005 I'm going to quasi-contradict my earlier post ... when I finished the first season of OZ on DVD, I wanted to race out and buy season two RIGHT THEN. So, I can see how it'd be addicting and all. But, I didn't buy season 2, and now it's been like 8 months and I still haven't picked up it. So, if it is addicting, it's not THAT addicting.
Guest Evolution Posted November 9, 2005 Report Posted November 9, 2005 Did the same renting TV sets from Movie Gallery with the first and second season of Six Feet Under and the first and second of Oz. I've been thinking about picking up an external DVD burner and burning episodes that I download so I can watch them on a DVD player instead of having to watch them on a computer that I share with my roommates, seems like I'd be able to pull it off.

I've probably watched the entire series run 3 times through now
MarvinisaLunatic Posted November 12, 2005 Report Posted November 12, 2005 Ive got X Files 1-4 (waiting for them to re-release them in cheaper packaging at a reduced MSRP of $49.99 to get the rest, which is what I paid for 1-4) Seinfeld 1-4 *(5-6) Simpsons 1-6 *(7) 24 1-3 *(4) Lois and Clark 1 * new sets coming out soon will be mine I'll eventually get some others when good sales (Like Targets recent $15 sale) happen, but Im against having to spend more than $50 for a set, which rules out some of the better sets.
the max Posted November 12, 2005 Report Posted November 12, 2005 The only show I do this for is 24. I get them for xmas every year and finish the entire season within three days. Newsradio only took me five days, but that's only about twenty minutes an episode.
cbacon Posted November 12, 2005 Report Posted November 12, 2005 Watching the entire season of Lost in a couple of weeks on DVD has made it all the more harder to watch the new episodes. With that said, I thought about doing the same thing with Arrested Development and 24, both of which i've yet to see a single episode.
Guest jenzie Posted November 12, 2005 Report Posted November 12, 2005 just watched INVASTION EARTH, on thursday and friday ..... for the first time since i TAPED IT OFF BBC2 in 1998!!! and what a downer the last episode was but great stuff it was and i bought the FIREFLY series on dvd today .....
The Czech Republic Posted November 13, 2005 Report Posted November 13, 2005 I don't watch Arrested Development when its on TV but I buy the DVD sets. I figure if strong DVD sales brought back Family Guy then strong DVD sales will keep AD on. *Price Is Right losing horn*
Boner Kawanger Posted November 13, 2005 Report Posted November 13, 2005 I like you, The Czech Republic. I also like having TV shows on DVD. To the point that it cuts down my TV viewing. But I still watch Arrested Development whenever Fox decides that it's time to show a few episodes.
SuperJerk Posted November 13, 2005 Report Posted November 13, 2005 You guys got nothing on me. Before DVD, I used to watch marathons of shows when I just taped them on VHS cassettes.
Boner Kawanger Posted November 14, 2005 Report Posted November 14, 2005 I do. In my younger days, my mom would tape Tiny Toons for me while I was at school. So I've got like ten VHS tapes full of Tiny Toons and other random stuff ranging from Disney Channel free preview days to classic Nickelodeon stuff.
imajackoff? Posted November 14, 2005 Report Posted November 14, 2005 one of the better TV show dvd sets I have is Moonlighting S1 & 2. 23 shows + bonuses for less than $30.
SuperJerk Posted November 14, 2005 Report Posted November 14, 2005 The first 2 season of Moonlighting were only 23 shows? I remember the show got cancelled after the first season only to be brought back....but 23 shows in 2 seasons?
imajackoff? Posted November 16, 2005 Report Posted November 16, 2005 Actually its the 2hr pilot + 23 episodes. The first season is the pilot and eps 1-5 season 2 is eps 6-23. As Bruce Willis says in the dvd doc., "We never did finish our homework."
