Bought very little in 2005, compared to 2004 and very few new albums. I did however like this:

This was alright too, not great but I don't regret the purchase( though I don't get why Daft Punk Is Playing At My House was so popular, thought it was one of the worst songs on the album):

Does the Carter II by lil Wayne count. I mean, I don't think it came out in December like it was supposed to...or did it.

Either way, that shit is amazing.

My favourite album of last year was "Hefty Fine" by the Bloodhound Gang.

As much for the pleasant surprise that it didn't suck as the all out fun of it.

Garbage- Bleed Like Me. ALMOST as good as 2.0. A step in the right direction at least.

Try- John Mayer Trio (Live) was fucking fantastic.

I've heard of Early Man. Weird they're on an indie rock label like Matador. Don Caballero recently signed to Relapse, which is also pretty strange.

I like 'em. I mentioned it at the other place, but certain tracks sound like old sabbath, some have an iron maiden feel, even kinda 80's megadeth sort of riffs in odd places, but they're never showoffy. Really "primitive" riffs, and although it's pretty easy to tell what they're going for, they don't do an injustice to anything, even if the vocals are part Sabbath-era Ozzy and part Geddy Lee. It almost turns into sounding like the Mars Volta at this one part, but it's not at all gay about it like The Mars Volta. I found it for 10 bucks, picked it up based on the name, and liked what I heard in the store.

Pretty good stuff.

"Death is the Answer" is definitely the standout track. "Like a Goddamned Rat" is good, too.

Gene, you might wanna check out Don Caballero. They're all instrumental; the first couple of albums are very riff/metal heavy, the last two were more melodic/proggy. If you're interested in the former, check out Don Caballero 2; the latter, American Don.

When I learned that they signed to Relapse, I assumed they'd revert back to their more metal sound, but leader/drummer/sole original member Damon Che was saying that the new record will kinda synthesize all of their previous material.

I just tried the last track off the latter album. Reminded me of King Crimson for the first minute or so. Really polyrhythmic and trippy. Not bad at all.

Mr. Children - I Love You

Mr Children put a new album out?

I love those bastards.

How does it rate with earlier stuff?

A couple of friends of mine are in a band called Mr. Children. I assume they're unaware of the name already being taken.

My rec of Don Caballero to Gene inspired me to put on American Don for the first time in awhile. So fucking good. I look forward to their new album; the current line up was stellar when I saw them live last year.

I can't say because I was introduced to them with this album. But now that I've heard it I want to get all their albums. I fell in love with every song.

In other news, I now have seven albums that shall forever remain in my all-time top ten list. Here, in no preferential order, they are:

1. Tom Waits - Rain Dogs

2. Outkast - Aquemini

3. The Velvet Underground - The Velvet Underground & Nico

4. The Wedding Present - Seamonsters

5. David Bowie - Hunky Dory

6. XTC - English Settlement

7. Wire - Pink Flag

I feel good about these albums.

8. Roxy Music - Avalon

9. Camper Van Beethoven - Key Lime Pie

Avalon was a decision I came to just now; Key Lime Pie has long been floating around my top 15. Now I have solidified it for the top ten. Or nine. I still need to settle on one more album.

What's your thoughts on White Light/White Heat, Inc? It's prrrobably my second favorite VU album, RIGHT after VU&Nico. I sort of wish that Lady Godiva didn't go into those weird vocals at the end. It's such a nice, lulling song. Of course, the shock of it's probably the point.

Horrible top 40 radio at work played "Don't Stop Believing" yesterday, and made my night.
