Matt Young Posted March 29, 2008 Report Posted March 29, 2008 Yeah... As I said, COD4 is the best for multiplayer. Oblivion, Mass Effect, BioShock, and Saints Row are the best single player games I can think of off the top of my head.
Agent_Bond34 Posted March 29, 2008 Report Posted March 29, 2008 Anyways, my name on there is TsunamiWveChain if anyone wants to add me. I'm planning on picking up a whole bunch of games next Monday- combination of a big paycheck from two jobs and the fact that many of the games I want, I've wanted since the system came out. I know I have Table Tennis and Call of Duty 2: GOTY edition, and we were looking at buying Eternal Sonata too, to get our RPG fix. I guess Marvel:Ultimate Alliance is a good game, too? Anyone have any further recommendations? (Oh, and I am getting back into Madden and probably NBA2k8 this summer, but I'll wait for the new one instead of buying the old one) Marvel Ultimate Alliance really is decent. I had some fun with it, but I haven't played it in a while though, because I've been playing a lot of NBA 2K8 on XBL lately. Golden State Warriors = ftw. If you liked the Half Life series, I would recommend The Orange Box. You can also hit me up on XBL sometime, whenever you get Madden 09, NBA 2K9, etc, my GT is NinerFan1983, and I usually stick to the sports titles on XBL. I like shooters, but I am beyond awful on those on XBL, especially Call of Duty 4.
Guest Vitamin X Posted March 29, 2008 Report Posted March 29, 2008 Looks like I'll have to get COD4. I know a lot of my friends who are getting into it as well, although on the other systems so no Live for them. I'm still planning on getting COD2, by the way, but that's because I've been meaning to get that game since the 360 came out and I loved it on the original Xbox. Unfinished business and all. Kind of the same thing with Table Tennis; I have a lot of catching up to do. I actually played around with Marvel:UA today, and we were bored with it within the hour. I guess it just wasn't really our thing, and definitely not mine. But yeah, I'm really looking forward to Madden 09. First Madden game I've played since 07, and even when I played 07 I wasn't terribly good at it since I'd gotten used to (and was annihilating people) in the last football 2k, which I think was 2k5. Previously to that, I don't think I ever lost to anybody at Madden, but that one year or two of playing NFL2k5 ruined my Madden skills for a long time. Still good enough to beat Matt Young a year or two ago, though, whenever it was. Oh, after hanging out at EBGames for a while today, I'm definitely convinced on buying Mass Effect and Bioshock as well. Thanks for the recommendations guys, I'll probably add you all soon enough.
Matt Young Posted March 29, 2008 Report Posted March 29, 2008 I don't think we ever played Madden. You beat me in 2K5 though. I'd suggest picking up Madden if you can find it cheap. It's worth full price, but since 09 comes out on August 12th and you'll be getting it, there'd be no sense in it really. I hope you get hooked on COD4. If Lushus can find time to get back on, and Thoth and Broward can join us, we can get a good party going.
Broward83 Posted March 29, 2008 Report Posted March 29, 2008 Just shoot me a PM either on XBL or thru here and I'll try to get on. Most of the days though, I've been on MLB2k8 and Rainbow Six.
Damaramu Posted March 29, 2008 Report Posted March 29, 2008 I had so much fun playing Halo 3 and COD4 with my friends that I considered getting X-Box Live to play them. Then two things occurred to me: 1) I have an addictive personality and not much time to play games. I'd be playing nothing but COD4 and Halo 3 and not playing any new games 2) I'm not very good and my friends aren't that great either so it was fun because we were all on the same skill level. If I played online I'd just die, constantly.
Matt Young Posted March 29, 2008 Report Posted March 29, 2008 Eh... If you play only one or two games, that would save money. Also, as much as I love Halo 3, I've barely touched it since I got COD4. It's hard to get used to Halo's slow pace after COD. You may be different than I am in this regard, but some of the most fun times I had in an online game were on Halo 2, and I was atrocious at that game. I rarely won, but I loved it. Oh, and it's good to see you back.
Hawkius Maximus Posted March 29, 2008 Report Posted March 29, 2008 I don't care for Halo 3 online...I think the "matchmaker" function is broken. I miss being able to join whatever game caught my fancy on Halo 1 on the PC. Inevitably, I'll play at my rank (Which even though I play constantly with friends, I almost never play online) I'll run into someone who has done the same exact thing I have done, and I get raped. Violently. In games where I'm actually playing for real (With friends we kind of goof off and have funny moments...Types of things a "true" Halo player doesn't look for), I eventually get so goddamn frustrated at the lack of precision in the Xbox 360 controller that I just quit and don't play Halo until I get over it. I cannot go from using a mouse for ten+ years to using a controller. It's never felt natural, and probably never will. The sticks are no match for the mouse. Halo 3 with just friends though? Fun.
Damaramu Posted March 30, 2008 Report Posted March 30, 2008 See I'm the opposite. I abhor playing computer games because I hate using the keyboard and mouse. I just can't get used to it.
Matt Young Posted March 30, 2008 Report Posted March 30, 2008 Same here. Actually, I like aiming and shooting with the mouse, but fuck trying to move around with the keys and jump with the space bar.
Damaramu Posted March 30, 2008 Report Posted March 30, 2008 So my X-Box 360 is acting like a computer with horrible lag. One day I'm playing Oblivion and the load times are fine and I can still do stuff when it says "loading area" then I quit playing for a week. I actually don't play anything in that week. I come back and the load times are brutal and the whole game stops and lags when it says "loading area". Weird.
Obi Chris Kenobi Posted March 30, 2008 Report Posted March 30, 2008 That's just a known problem with Oblivion, I think it clears it up if you clear your caché memory on the xbox. Some of my mates have called Oblivion the 360killer, as they've all had it and all had 360's that have failed a few months into/after playing it.
Black Lushus Posted March 31, 2008 Report Posted March 31, 2008 I sold off Oblivion after a few weeks of playing...quite frankly, it bored me.
AndrewTS Posted April 1, 2008 Report Posted April 1, 2008 I'd think if you played absolutely nothing else during that time, the game should load quickly. When I played Ninja Gaiden Black on my 360, if I only played that, the initial load times on the game would be very brief. If I switched games, it would be back to being a long time. Anyone know if that is still an issue with the GotY edition?
Black Lushus Posted April 1, 2008 Report Posted April 1, 2008 that's what I had, load times sucked, though I dont know if what you specified was the reason.
AnonymousBroccoli Posted April 1, 2008 Report Posted April 1, 2008 Some new Xbox hardware: http://www.xbox.com/en-US/community/promotions/2008/spring/
Edwin MacPhisto Posted April 3, 2008 Report Posted April 3, 2008 My 360 is now freezing about 15 seconds into gameplay for either Call of Duty or Bioshock. Are we on our way to the fabled red rings here?
Matt Young Posted April 5, 2008 Report Posted April 5, 2008 http://www.411mania.com/games/news/72486/%...aints-Row-2.htm [PS3, Xbox 360] THQ Dates Saints Row 2 Posted by Ramon Aranda on 04.04.2008 THQ's Gamer's Day reveals the August street date. Kotaku reports that at last night's THQ Gamer's Day, the publisher revealed that the previously announced Saints Row 2 for the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 will hit retail stores on August 26. Though the game was announced late last year, we were only given a 2008 release announcement so now we have that concrete date. Screenshots below. I still play the first one, so good news.
Agent_Bond34 Posted April 6, 2008 Report Posted April 6, 2008 Was the first one any good? I never did get to play that.
Broward83 Posted April 6, 2008 Report Posted April 6, 2008 Anyone who has Vegas 2 and is up for some terrorist hunting, send me a message on XBL at: UTBroward
Matt Young Posted April 6, 2008 Report Posted April 6, 2008 Was the first one any good? I never did get to play that. If it wasn't I wouldn't still play it. Better than any GTA game, except maybe San Andreas, which I haven't played.
Black Lushus Posted April 7, 2008 Report Posted April 7, 2008 I enjoyed Saints Row more than San Andreas. Not sure why, really...I just had more fun with it.
Ripper Posted April 7, 2008 Report Posted April 7, 2008 The aiming system wasn't pure shit and the driving wasn't as bad. That was enough for Saints Row to win me over.
Agent_Bond34 Posted April 7, 2008 Report Posted April 7, 2008 If it wasn't I wouldn't still play it. Better than any GTA game, except maybe San Andreas, which I haven't played. What I meant to ask was, but didn't word it the right way... what's good about Saints Row? what makes it stand out? Personally, I enjoyed GTA III more than any other GTA I've played. Although, Vice City Stories and Liberty City Stories on PSP were pretty cool too.
Black Lushus Posted April 7, 2008 Report Posted April 7, 2008 It doesn't stand out really. Same setting, similar missions...except it doesn't get goofy like San Andreas does. You're not robbing casinos and doing things for rogue CIA agents, which makes absolutely no sense for a common street thug to be doing. The ending is good as well...sorta makes you go "you muthafuckas..."
Broward83 Posted April 7, 2008 Report Posted April 7, 2008 anyone read any of the articles about Saints 2? Apparently, you get out of jail to find that the gang is getting shit on by everybody. Edit: only did the spoiler tags since it seems there are people who haven't played the first game and don't want to spoil things for them.

Obi Chris Kenobi Posted April 9, 2008 Report Posted April 9, 2008 A few days ago my xboxlive sub tried to auto renew via the details on the xbox, however, the card I entered was then lost and cancelled 3 months ago - so wasn't active. Got an email 4 days ago saying 'hey we couldn't take payment', yet, my sub has been renewed till March 09. Either they're slacking on stopping it (I can still play), or I've scored for a free 12 month sub
Matt Young Posted April 9, 2008 Report Posted April 9, 2008 You won't get a free year, but you'll get a little extra time. I was in the same situation upon renewal a year ago and got an extra 2 months before I received another e-mail stating when the subscription would be cut off.
