iggymcfly 0 Report post Posted November 27, 2005 Just for the record, I'd like to state that I know absolutely nothing about college football. Nothing. On my bets this week, I went.....(wait for it)....... 0-12 The odds of that happening through random chance are over 4,000-1. Honestly, I can't decide whether I want to crawl into a dark hole, or just whip myself until I leave scars. I think I'll settle on moping around and laughing at how stupid I am. It's not even the money, (I've won plenty playing poker lately, so I'm not worried about it.) It's the idea that all this time, while I was poring over scores, and studying the past history of teams, I was basically beating my head against the wall because I know NOTHING about football. NOTHING. OK. Rant over.
Edwin MacPhisto 0 Report post Posted November 27, 2005 That's not even Cougin' it. That's straight Temple-in' it. Ouch. Speaking of backing into title games--I know it was discussed earlier, but I'm still rolling my eyes at Colorado. I guess the only question will be if Texas beats them by more or less this time out. I can't believe Iowa State lost overtime games against inferior competition two years in a row, when a win either time would have won the Big XII north. Go Cyclones. Slayer 0 Report post Posted November 27, 2005 Clearly what you need to do is map out all your intuitions on a sheet of paper... and then bet against all of them
Guest Report post Posted November 27, 2005 Texas is going to beat Colorado by at least 30.
Failed Bridge 0 Report post Posted November 27, 2005 *places iggymcfly into an AIM chat with both Slayer and Edwin for about 5hrs* After that you'll be an expert on the sport. Slayer is the one that got me into College football about 4 or 5 years back. Before then I knew nothing of the sport as I didn't care to watch it. Now though I know more than I probably should. Still, I'd say he and Edwin are the main guys to talk to about this sport.
iggymcfly 0 Report post Posted November 27, 2005 Hey, I can talk college football fine, I've got plenty of knowledge on the subject, and I'd been doing really well betting it until this week. That's why the whole thing bothers me so much. I was convinced that I was a fucking expert on college football, and then I got so many games wrong this week that it defied the laws of probability. therealworldschampion 0 Report post Posted November 27, 2005 I would say Edwin is the ACC expert, Slayer is the Big XII expert, and teke is the SEC expert on this board. Iggy's quite knowledgable on the sport as well.
Guest Report post Posted November 27, 2005 Iggy, what games did you get wrong and how much did you lose?
Failed Bridge 0 Report post Posted November 27, 2005 Slayer is the Big XII expert If you didn't have Dama on ignore before this comment, well you're going to want to after he reads it.
Guest Report post Posted November 27, 2005 Don't egg him on, please.
therealworldschampion 0 Report post Posted November 27, 2005 Nah it's not baiting him, I've read Slayer's posts about the Big XII before and he seems very knowledgeable about the conference...
Guest Report post Posted November 27, 2005 You know what I mean. Someone says something about Dama, I jump in, he responds and doesn't stop. That not egging him on was towards Fridge.
2GOLD 0 Report post Posted November 27, 2005 I think the thing that bothers me most about it is that the Seminoles REALLY backed into this one while BC is coming off of two wins. I know they'd get killed by V-Tech but hell, they deserve the chance in my opinion. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Backed into it? They are a floating corpse that happened to wash on shore. It's honestly a miracle that Bowden didn't suffer a losing season with this bunch. Losing Wyatt Sexton really hurt them offensively but their secondary is really waaaay behind what an FSU secondary used to be. I still haven't heard if Sexton will be back next year, I'm hoping so as Weatherford has the Chris Rix gene now. He had so many flashes of good tonight only to follow them up with "jesus, what the fuck was that?!?!" Yes, I know he's a freshman but still...those were behind bad decisions tonight. Failed Bridge 0 Report post Posted November 27, 2005 I wasn't egging him on either. I just figure he's not going to like that comment. I have him on ignore so I don't give a fuck what he says. Anyways, I've found Slayer to be most knowledgable on both the Big Ten and Big Twelve
Slayer 0 Report post Posted November 27, 2005 Comes from growing up right in the middle of the territory. I'm also fairly knowledgable about the Big 10 (11), being a Michigan fan and having lived in that area for some time also, but primarily the Big 12 is what I know best. To add to RWC's list, I'd put Bored in as the Pac 10 expert.

I think they need a new offensive coordinator more than anything, but I fear Bobby doesn't have the heart to pull his son from the position.

Damaramu 0 Report post Posted November 27, 2005 They were projecting Bama in the Cotton Bowl today on ABC. That doesn't bode well for Bama. They can't score and Texas Tech can score at will.

Guest Report post Posted November 27, 2005 Question: Who would Miami likely play in the Peach Bowl? <{POST_SNAPBACK}> I would think Bama <{POST_SNAPBACK}> I have a feeling that they will be playing South Carolina. Someone prove me wrong.
teke184 0 Report post Posted November 27, 2005 Question: Who would Miami likely play in the Peach Bowl? <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Good question. SEC bowl heirarchy: If LSU wins SEC Title Game: Sugar- LSU Capitol One- Auburn Outback- Georgia Cotton- Alabama Peach- South Carolina Independence- Florida If Georgia wins SEC Title Game: Sugar- Georgia Capitol One- Auburn Outback- South Carolina Cotton- LSU Peach- Alabama Independence- Florida The main thing is that the Outback Bowl tends to take an SEC East team and the Cotton tends to take an SEC West team. Depending on which team wins the SEC Title Game, different teams could end up in the Outback Bowl or Cotton Bowl and, therefore, remove the team that the Peach Bowl would prefer. Guest Report post Posted November 27, 2005 LSU winning prevents a possible 0-0 final score in regulation, so this is definitely the best bet.
Guest Report post Posted November 27, 2005 Reading over something on nbcsports.com, I've come to the realization that with a Florida State loss, they will be facing South Carolina in the Peach Bowl. Bowden vs Spurrier again? Can this ever be escaped? Shoot me.
Art Sandusky 0 Report post Posted November 27, 2005 Ohio State is the best of the at-large teams by far. I'd love to see them play Notre Dame over Penn State, to be honest. Alabama against Texas Tech will be like a Ferrari hitting a brick wall. As much as I think USC is invincible and all, they're still human of course. The game with UCLA hasn't been given all that much attention since the fireworks against Fresno State last week. UCLA's still only a one-loss team, and they've got the firepower to hang for most of the game at least. And about Fresno State, that had to be the most riveting 4th quarter I've ever seen, taking everything into account. No functioning game clock, funky special teams bounces, a one-in-a-million ball control play, players with diseases scoring touchdowns, and Nevada- friggin NEVADA! goes to the Hawaii bowl with a share of the WAC title and looking like stars on national TV. And how about that offense of theirs. Calling any other team a gimmick team is an insult to Nevada. Perhaps I've been sheltered by fairly mainstream football, but the "pistol formation," as the announcers called it, was bizarre to watch. Looks like it works pretty well, I guess. I expect the WAC to do what everyone said the MAC was going to do a couple of years ago, break out and be the mid-major that becomes nationally regarded and respected. I actually said "Uh oh" when I saw how AD was running against Oklahoma State. And all of the conferences suck this year. Stuff's busy reshuffling. We all expected this at the end of last year. Next season's when we'll get some incredible stuff happening and less embarassing conference title games, etc.
Damaramu 0 Report post Posted November 27, 2005 What does that uh-oh thing about AD mean? I know it's good but I don't quite get what you're saying. If you're saying it was jaw-dropping then I agree. And what was the "pistol" formation? I didn't catch that game so I don't know what it looks like.
iggymcfly 0 Report post Posted November 27, 2005 Iggy, what games did you get wrong and how much did you lose? <{POST_SNAPBACK}> I bet on: Pittsburgh LSU Colorado Iowa State Mississippi Cincinnatti Notre Dame Louisville Oklahoma State UL Monroe Georgia Tech Florida State God, it's still hard to imagine that many games could be wrong. All told, I lost $1300. Again, I was up $2000 for the year on college football going in, and I'm up a lot more than that on poker, so the money doesn't really hurt, but my ego's severely bruised, and I can't imagine counting on betting college football to get me anywhere ever again. LSU has been horrible at beating the spread for at least a year now, as the Oregon State and Troy games last year and Auburn, Florida, and Tennessee games this year have shown. As for the other games, try to focus on one or two that you think are REALLY good bets instead of just spreading a lot of money around. For example, given Florida State's troubles over the past few weeks, I'd have looked at the spread against Florida and gauged how well Florida could cover it.
