Guest Dr. Wrestlingphysics Report post Posted December 9, 2005 I'm not a fan of Wild Horses at all, and Angie is also vastly overrated. They also put out a fair amount of shit in their (thankfully pretty brief) psychadelic phase. "We Love You", "2000 Lightyears From Home" and that stuff. Not heard "satanic majesties" as a whole album though, but as individual songs, they are much weaker than what went before or after.

Giuseppe Zangara 0 Report post Posted December 17, 2005 My bad re Wood! Anywho, the only remotely not good thing from Satanic Majesties is the reprise of "Let's Sing This All Together." And even then it's alright, though only within the context of the album.
Giuseppe Zangara 0 Report post Posted December 17, 2005 I was just looking around the rest of the board; I think I'm only going to post in this thread from now on.
JangoFett4Hire 0 Report post Posted December 19, 2005 Angie Only Rock'n'Roll Actually anything from Goat's or Only... Faraway Eyes makes me cringe. And yes, Country Honk is the superior version.
Giuseppe Zangara 0 Report post Posted December 20, 2005 Tracks 1-4 and 10 on Goats Head Soup are good. It gets sketchy during the stretch of 5-9.
The Mandarin 0 Report post Posted December 21, 2005 Which one has a video that is filmed in black and white and features the Stones as giants walking all over a city or some shit? That's my choice. I haven't got anything against the band, though, "Paint it Black" is one of my all-time favourite songs.
Guest Anticrombie Report post Posted December 21, 2005 (edited) I believe you're thinking of "Love Is Strong" from their 1994 Voodoo Lounge album. Edited December 21, 2005 by Anticrombie

Giuseppe Zangara 0 Report post Posted February 27, 2006 I listened to Goats Head Soup yesterday and "Angie" still sucks. So does the rest of the last half of the album, minus "Starfucker," which is so ridiculously awesome. Also, I've come around on "Far Away Eyes," if only for the nice harmonizing on the chorus. Also, I've listened to very little else other than the Rolling Stones for the last couple of months. You'd think I'd be ready to move on, but no.
Giuseppe Zangara 0 Report post Posted February 27, 2006 I should go back and edit the first post, removing "Far Away Eyes" and replacing it with "Cherry Oh Baby."

Kinetic 0 Report post Posted March 3, 2006 I would second "Going Home," but also add that "Stray Cat Blues" isn't very good, either. And I felt pretty smart in being able to predict the exact songs and the order in which they would be played on the Stones' crappy Super Bowl halftime show performance. AboveAverage484 0 Report post Posted March 3, 2006 Ummmmm, "In Another Land."
Giuseppe Zangara 0 Report post Posted March 3, 2006 "Stray Cat Blues" is great, one of the best songs on Beggars Banquet. From that particular album, I'm not very big on "Parachute Woman," but even that isn't that bad. Just forgettable. "In Another Land" is good, as long as you can get past the dated vocal distortion. Can you deny that song's chorus? I've said it before, but Their Satanic Majesties Request is one of their best albums. Any album that features "Citadel," "2000 Man," "She's a Rainbow" and "2000 Light Years from Home" shouldn't be dismissed.

Also, I've listened to very little else other than the Rolling Stones for the last couple of months. You'd think I'd be ready to move on, but no. winter & can you hear the music are nice little ballads. lightweight. lacking in the typical stone's attitude of the time. but its nice entrances into "star star". which is classic stones. a song that totally makes up for the lobotmized side b. i'd say if any song summarizes what makes the early 70's stones so great, it would be that. or can you hear me knocking. Giuseppe Zangara 0 Report post Posted March 22, 2006 I can give "Winter" a pass, but "Can You Hear the Music" is lightweight. Too much so. Earlier, I was thinking about songs with awesome guitar tones. I mention this here because "Sway" from Sticky Fingers was one of the first songs I thought of. Mick Taylor's guitar detroys. Giuseppe Zangara 0 Report post Posted March 22, 2006 Hey, I checked out Emotional Rescue recently. 1980, their first release after their last arguably great album, Some Girls. Not bad, but really, it's Some Girls, pt. 2. Almost every song from that album has a counterpart on the follow-up, but they tear through these songs with so much energy that the end result is very listenable, even if a lot of the material is very thin. spiny norman 0 Report post Posted March 22, 2006 I like Emotional Rescue a lot. I would argue Steel Wheels was their last "great" album (though it's not at the same level as their greatest). I'd say that Tattoo You was was almost as great an album as Some Girls, though, and probably in my top five Stones albums of all time.

The Mandarin 0 Report post Posted April 20, 2006 After listening to Hot Rocks several times through recently, I've decided that I very much dislike "Time is on My Side" but really enjoy "Heart of Stone". Make of that what you will.
