NFL Week XIII

How can Tiki Barber not be a MVP canidate? This guy is just as important, if not more, than Alexander is to the Seahawks. I know Barber has Plaxico and Shockey and Toomer, but this offense is nothing without Barber. I swear for a guy who plays in NYC, he is so not talked about enough.

Edgerrin James is the biggest reason why the Colts are unstoppable. Other than that, I say Carson Palmer.

No shit. Fuck Tom Brady. They remind me of those good 49ers teams with Montana, and Montana getting best ever nods. Neil O'Donnell could've won a ring with the Niners.

Yeah, but it's doubtful the Patriots would've had that kind of success under a different quarterback. This year's basically proven that Brady wasn't just a "system quarterback", and deserves his spot among the QB elite. He doesn't audible at the line or has the same cannon for an arm that Peyton does, but he has more touch on his throws and is more athletic.

And the Montana/49er comparisons are accurate. I guess that would make the Colts the current generation's version of the Cowboys from back then, except without all the criminal activity and super bowls.

So far...

Brady's better than Montana. However, look at the Pats now that the team has degenerated somewhat. He's not carrying that team like an allegedly tremendous QB should be able to do. I'd be surprised if they finish 10-6.

If Alexander, Palmer, Tiki Barber or LT doesn't win MVP, then fuck the NFL. Seriously. The Manning Brothers are the most over-rated QB's in recent memory.

You put Flutie in the Pats offense this year and that team wins 3-4 games thus far...maybe 6 forthe season.

No.

He'd go about 10-6, the commoners fall in love with him, then he'll lose an important game with bad play, which everyone will forget.

Not that I think either deserve it, but how the hell is Peyton Manning, or even Eli for that matter, overrated?

Peyton has never won a big game in his career, though that might change this year. I don't think Eli is overrated though.

I think Eli is overrated in the sense that many people act like he is already a top QB. I don't doubt that he is going to be great, but right now he still struggles plenty.

As for Peyton, I think the "can't win the big one stuff" is overblown. Let's not forget that the big games he has lost have all come to a dynasty caliber team. Maybe we should give those guys a little more credit for winning as opposed to giving Peyton blame for losing.

And at this point I don't know if I can stand to watch the rest of the Eagles games. Time for the Detmer-Moats-GLew era.

Remember he also did lose against the Titans I believe in the 1999 playoffs at home when the Colts were coming off a first-round bye for the AFC playoffs, along with the losses against Miami and the Jets in the playoffs. Also that 0-4 record against Florida when he was at Tennessee still looms over him.

The Titans then went on to come up a yard short in the SB, and the Jets and Dolphins were again on the road. The only one I can really fault him for would be the Titans one since they were home, but they obvioulsy were no slouch.

He's proven he can destroy AFC West teams in the playoffs!

That's about it...

Especially Denver. Denver gets shredded by the Colts in the playoffs. In the regular season, the Broncos have them. The playoffs? They're fucked.

He leads the league in passing despite losing his starting running back, tight end, and a ridiculous amount of instability on the offensive line, and of course they're still first in their (very shitty) division, but still first nonetheless and might even get a win in the playoffs. I'd never like to mess with Brady/Belichick and the Pats and their perfect postseason record...

Just to add onto what VX said ... Brady is leading (or potentially just among the league leaders after this past weekend) in passing, while sharing a backfield with two RBs that were picked up during this season and playing behind an O-Line with 2 rookies and without the normal starting center. What more do people want from him?

AoO, you're stoned if you think that this team will finish worse than 10-6. The only really tough game that they have left is Tampa, and that's at home. I can't see them losing more than 1 game in these last 4.

Speaking of being stoned ... there's no way, Leena, that this team would go 10-6 with Flutie. I'd be surprised if they were able to even go 8-8 with the midget calling the plays.

AFC MVP = LT or Carson Palmer

NFC MVP = Shaun Alexander or Steve Smith

The RB's I picked are one men wrecking crews on their own (if they've got an O-line worth a shit blocking for them).

I think she was joking.

Maybe she was being sarcastic, but everything other than the projected record seems to be an on-point synopsis of Flutiemania. Fans go nuts when he wins a few games, and everyone trips over their dicks to say that he should be a starter. Then he blows a game and people make excuses for him, remembering the good but never the bad.

But as a card-carrying member of the Flutie Haters Club, I have an obligation to point out how much he sucks whenever anyone -even facetiously- claims that he's any good.

He kicked some ass in Canada, though, didn't he? Or am I thinking of someone else..

I think Palmer is well deserving of an MVP, while he has good blocking and receivers, with a lesser QB in there the Bengals would probably have a losing record.

I think Seattle could be a .500 team without Shaun (he's obviously incredible, and red-zone money.) And he's a statistical monster. A couple games ago, he was one TD behind Palmer and Manning, the top scoring QBs in the NFL.

And Eli's a bit overrated. He'll be very good soon, but his QB rating sucks ass.

Either way, Go Bengals, Go 'Hawks.

I wasn't being sarcastic... that's exactly how it's always been with Flutie.

And I don't hate him. But, the love he got in Buffalo was sickening.

I can't really fault Manning for that Titans loss though. Let's face it, after the Music City Miracle the previous week there was no way in hell the Titans were losing that game. In fact I dare say that without the Music City Miracle the Colts would have gotten to the Super Bowl that year, though I'm not sure if they would have beaten the Rams or not.

Denver owns Indy in the regular season because Indy is usually resting starters or generally not giving a shit late in the season.

If Peytons only knock for MVP is not winning a big game what about the other guys? Palmer, Alexander, LT, and Tiki havent won any big games.

Palmer hasn't really BEEN in any big games, unless you count this past week's game against Pittsburgh, which I really don't. He did well against Indianapolis, too, and it'd be doubtful the Bengals would be doing just as well without him. Since he can't win any rookie of the year awards, I think he deserves the AFC's MVP award.. if only it wasn't for LaDanian Tomlinson.

The thing with LT, Alexander, and Tiki, is that the MVP is difficult to hand out to a running back, since winning it for them is based more on stats than on big wins. People look at quarterback as the "leadership" position, and they all have quarterbacks good enough to be considered leaders (Brees, Hasselbeck, and Eli) on their respective teams. Also don't forget Edgerrin James, who's maybe even more responsible for the Colts' undefeated record on the offenseive side than the other guys. Alexander, James, and Barber are all averaging over 100 yards/game as well, which is insane.

But yeah, Palmer is just having a totally fucking sick season. He leads the league in TD passes and completion percentage, and is second only to Tom Brady in yards, and second only to Manning in QB rating.

How is QB rating figured out, anyway?

Carson has more yds, more TDs, a higher comp% and one less INT than Manning, but Manning has a higher QB rating. ?Que? Oh Wikipedia....
