Saturday Night's Main Event

Recommended Posts

This is good, now Matt Striker, Tajiri, Johnny Parisi and all the other Heat guys get more air time. But is this going to be live?

Maybe if the Main Event features a 60 man battle royal...

Actually, the word is they will be Raw only shows.

Because we wouldn't want people to think that SD is on par with Raw or anything like that.

I think they're RAW shows initially because RAW is gonna be preempted a few times on USA, so the shows they tape for those preempted dates will be the ones showed as SNME. That should also answer if the shows are live or not (I don't recall the original SNMEs being live in the first place.) Of course, I could be wrong and the plan all along could be only RAW shows regardless.

Anyone want to venture a guess on the biggest way WWE will insult/offend the general public on their 1st NBC special?

Whatever it is, I'm sure Vince will brush it off claiming he's looking to also appease the audience that is used to seeing SNL at that time slot. So he figured some tactful, tasteful humor would suffice.

Maybe Vince will come out and act like he's going to rape a Diva in the middle of the Ring. Then he'll complain about the media misinterpereting him.

The saddest part of that? I woudn't be suprised if that happened.

I like how their SNME highlights end in 1987, since the show ran til 1992.

Nailz' pic is the 1st thing you see on the News link. that's almost surreal.

Testing...

Anyone else think this sounds like a plot to kill whatever ratings TNA has?

I don't think so. I believe WWE already had prime time specials set on their deal with NBC/Universal, way before TNA even had a saturday night timeslot secured. The fact that they'll be on saturday it's just coincidence IMO, but a welcome one for WWE for sure IF they can take away some of the small Impact! ratings. SNME was a staple of NBC programming in the 80s, so it's only fitting the show returns now that NBC is part of their TV exposure.

Yeah, that makes sense. I didn't mean it like seeking just to thrash their ratings. I really doubt they'd bother at this point.

I am going to request that no one suggest that WWE bring back the Animotion theme. I know someone is going to say it, but don't. Just don't.

I used to love SNME because way back then we had only at most 4 PPVs a year, so this was a rare occaision to see non jobber matches or to see some semi high profile feuds getting paid off... Now in an era of 14 PPVs a year, no more 'jobber' matches... I see little point in a SNME return, as that was the only value it had

The WWE is getting the advertising money for the time slot and it counters TNA being on Spike on Saturday Night.

Also the thought process behind it was to use it as a set up for the PPV's or having a special when the selected brand doesn't have a PPV that month.

It is also mainstream exposure on a bigger network than USA, Spike, or UPN. It's a brillant move for the WWE because it will allow them to make some of the money they thought they were going to lose when they weren't going to get the advertising on USA.

Also it is another big rub from Lorne Michaels who is one of Vince McMahon's biggest backers and friend. So it is a win win for the WWE and NBC.

I totally agree. SNME was sort of the "Clash of the Champions" event for the WWE but now we're so swamped in pay-per-views (which I've heard the WWE wants to expand even more) this doesn't exactly get me fired up.

Wow, this is an over kill.

WWE can't even produce four hours a week of good television let alone another 2.

Fuck this shit.

Oh I can see why its being done.. I was just saying that it holds no interest for myself in this day and age

Wait a sec I thought Vince and Lorne had some heat with each other from something back in the XFL days. Or maybe it was with someone else.

I always thought Michaels and McMahon have had a good working relationship. NBC execs were ticked at McMahon for the overrun in the XFL games that cost SNL time.

It won't last very long anyway.

Plus who won't turn on NBC to see the future great match of Trevor Murdoch against John Cena in a "pig pen" match for the WWE title?

Dick Ebersol is with NBC Sports and is who Vince has heat with over the XFL.

Lorne was also pissed at Vince. He even contemplated running a re-run of an older SNL episode when his marquee host (I think J-Lo or someone like that) was pushed aside for a XFL game that ran late. So yes I think Lorne and Vince has heat with each other.

I don't remember watching any of SNME as a kid, my parents didn't want me watching wrestling when I was a kid, they thought it might influance my life. I had to sneak watching Wrestling challange and Superstars while they slept in the mornings. So the program coming back doesn't really affect me that much, if anything I'm glad that more wrestlers will get more tv time just as long as its not HHH.

Vince and Dick Ebersol are friends. They have been ever since SNME started in the 80's. I haven't heard anything about Lorne Michaels and Vince being friends, other than their being seen together on the SNL episode the Rock hosted. Lorne was super-pissed that an XFL game ran late and delayed the episode that J.Lo was hosting, which he had expected to be the highest-rated of the season, given that she had the number one album and movie in the country at the time, but it ended up getting an even lower number than the previous week's episode.
