Meltzer's take on WWE wrestlers' reactions to Guerrero angle

Recommended Posts

Guest tony manero

From Meltzer's Thursday update:

"The Eddie Guerrero death exploitation angles on Tuesday remain very polarizing, both in and out of the company. Chavo Guerrero was put on Byte This yesterday to defend it saying that Eddie would be glad they are keeping his name alive and saying he liked it. A couple of people were upset with the situation, but not necessarily him because they know the situation he's in, and it may even be his honest feelings (although even if it wasn't, he'd pretty much be pressured into doing it), and another noted how the company has gotten terribly defensive of the criticism. Several of Eddie's best friends have e-mailed me in the last day or called and all were mad, including disappointed at Rey Mysterio for going through with it. One of Eddie's best friends (and one of the company's biggest stars of the past decade) wrote this in response to what I wrote somewhat defending the talent involved with the exception of Undertaker not saying No:

"Everyone has the power to say "No." Booking reprisals be damned. There comes a time when you have to stand up for what you believe in. Vincent Kennedy McMahon may have a hissy fit for a few weeks, but with the talent roster as thin as it is right now, nothing majorly bad would happen. Even if it did, it wouldn't last, because he has nobody else to carry the load. Shame on all of those guys."

Has to have been Jericho

Yeah, it's totally him. It's his writing style; plus, nobody exudes more charisma in their writing than he does.

The only other guy who could've written that is....JBL.

It was either Jericho or Benoit.

I wonder if there will be any backlash on Mysterio since Meltzer openly fingered him as someone that e-mailed him saying how regretful he was.

But I agree with whoever e-mailed that to Jericho. They all had the power to say no and didn't. So whatever.

Are you sure? Where does it say that Rey Mysterio emailed him? I read it to mean that several wrestlers emailed Meltzer about how disappointed they were with Mysterio for going through it, not that Mysterio emailed him.

Benoit doesn't have the personality to write something like that.

You need a certain personality to write an e-mail?

Like Strummer mentioned, "Vincent Kennedy McMahon" and "shame on those guys" lend itself to Jericho's personality. Benoit doesn't have the humor to call Vince by his first, middle and last name.

This is what a Benoit email would sound like:

"I'm really angry for what Mr. McMahon did on Smackdown. It made me really angry and sad for my best friend, Eddie Guerrero. It was wrong and made me really angry -- so much so, that I headbutted my keyboard 10 times and busted myself open hardway after writing this email"

Chris Benoit wouldn't write. Chris Benoit would just bust up in the office and start chopping mothafuckas. That's how Chris Benoit handles shit, damn it.

Chyna wouldn't write. Chyna would handle it by getting wasted and flashing her shenis. That's how Chyna handles shit, damn it.

Well, from how I took it, it seemed implyed by the email that it was a wrestler no longer with the company. So from that, I figured it to be either Rock or Jericho. As far as I know, Rock wasn't one of Eddy's best friends, so that's why I assumed Jericho.

And no, Meltzer didn't say Rey emailed him (Meltzer never reveals his sources within the company). You just misunderstood his post.

You makehim sound like he's Chuck Norris.

I think that Jericho is behind this e-mail and I do hope that Benoit reconsiders staying with the WWE.

Practically every wrestler in the E corresponds with Meltzer, even Vince himself.

I'd say it's Foley or Jericho.

Foley would sell out his integrity for a Baby Ruth bar.

Lemme rephrase that, Foley would sell out his integrity for a piece of gum. And I don't mean the good gum, I mean the cheap and horrid 1 cent gum that about breaks your teeth.

Oh man I would love to see someone get the gimmick of just shouting "WOO" and chopping random people backstage. Then come back from commercial with Maria's chest all bloody purple.

Practically every wrestler in the E corresponds with Meltzer, even Vince himself.

Uh I believe Meltzer said a few months ago he hasn't talked to or in any way been communicating with McMahon in the last few years.

I had imagined in my head Jericho reading that even before I read what everyone else thought. It's totally his style. Only Jericho or Benoit would fit the introduction to the quote, and there was no way Benoit wrote that. Benoit's writing style is more like "ITWAS WRONG OH EDDIEW !!!!!!111!111111"

The way Dave explained it was that anytime buisness is down or Vince is in trouble with the law or media, Dave Meltzer is one of his closest friends and the most respected independent wrestling journalist. When things are going good, Dave Meltzer and his dirt sheet are a threat to their prosperity and success.

It's just great how WWE.com is promoting that episode of Byte This:

Do you think the use of Eddie Guerrero's lowrider on The SmackDown Special was disrespectful? Find out what Eddie's nephew Chavo thought of it on Byte This!

I'd say it's Foley or Jericho.

Foley can't use a computer.

And so what if the wrestlers don't like the angle. They never do anything about except complain to Meltzer. If the wrestlers didn't like the segment. they should confront Vince about it. Is it carreer suicide? It could be.

Exactly. This wrestler is anonymously claiming to Meltzer about the show and giving reasons why anybody could turn down storyline ideas because the talent roster is thin these days. If that's the case then why doesn't this individual or any other WWE worker for that matter complain to Vince McMahon or whoever else in power? What do they get out of taking their complaints to Meltzer, especially when they're anonymous.

If a bunch of wrestlers are so upset over what happened on Tuesday Smackdown then maybe they should go to Vince as a group to complain. What are they going to do? Fire the entire roster?
