The Rose Bowl Thread

Palmer can also throw off-balance with snap. Leinart needs to step into throws to generate ball speed. An NFL quarterback will be making throws without optimal throwing space, that's why arm strength can be such a big deal (it tends to affect mid-range passes more than the deep ball, as you usually have time to throw the deep ball).

Matt Leinart COULD end up a good career backup if he doesn't let everything go to his head. Trent Dilfer/Jon Kitna/Neil O'Donnell like player.

Personally, I think Omar Jacobs and Jay Cutler are better prospects for starters in the NFL. Jacobs seemed to make good decisions everytime I watched him play (Though he dropped out of the shotgun a LOT)

I wouldn't exactly say Reggie was shut down. He had 13 carries for 82 yards and a TD. Any RB would be more then happy with that in 13 carries. He just didn't get the ball in his hands enough.

So do you think USC would've had a better chance if they gave Bush the rock?

What a game. I want to relive the end. I was so excited at the end there. I almost puked. I almost had a heart attack. Damn.

Pete Carroll you haven't got anything on Bud Wilkinson! I'm kidding! Kidding!

I'm not sure, I mean if he had gotten 20 touches I think they would have had a much better chance of winning.

They should have ran the ball more with not just Bush, but Lendale White.

I like how everyone's giving Leinart zero credit, despite that he had a monster game tonight. All of those guys will be great starters, but Leinart is going to be a hell of a lot better than a career backup.

I think Bush was silenced for the most part except for the stupid lateral play, his TD run and the next to last play of the game. LenDale was the horse to ride, it was just some bad coaching by Carroll and a lot of mental mistakes that cost USC the game. There's no excuse for blowing a 12 point lead with about 6 1/2 minutes or so left in the game.

As much as I hate the team and it's players I agree with you. Everyone used to act like he was so great and then he loses this game and has a bad first quarter against USC and everyone thinks he sucks.

Nobody gave the biggest play of the game in their mind.

I still think the INT was a very good play.

What gives you the idea he'll be better. He's playing with 3 NFL-caliber offensive linemen, and 2 NFL-level running backs to keep the defense INSANELY offense and an NFL-talent wide receiver...against a fast but not amazing defense. He had a -lot- of yards and good completion percentage, but he also made a bunch of mistakes early (when there was pressure before white got the ball more and kept the linebackers honest to the playaction)

He COULD be better than that. And you act like career backup in the nfl is a bad thing, I'm saying it in a positive way. Wouldn't the Miami Dolphins kill for a solid guy like Dilfer, Kitna, old-time neil o'donnell, hell even charlie batch would have improved their team this year.

The only reason for that timeout had to be someone on USC noticing that they had 12 guys out there, but even then it just moves the conversion a yard closer. Carroll had already wasted a timeout earlier in the half as it was. Going for it on 4th down was an EXTREMELY arrogant call. USC hadn't thrown on any 3rd/4th down short-yardage situations like that all game, so Texas knew all they had to do was load up the middle. If my defense had shown a complete inability to stop the other team, I punt it and try to pin them as deep in their own territory as possible. When mistakes like this work alongside a team that couldn't tackle, look out. USC fuckin' HAD this game, man.

As far as the review shit goes, the touchdown early on and then the who-the-hell-thought-that-was-a-turnover review during Texas's next to last drive were both totally boneheaded. The first is a bit more excusable since USC eventually showed they probably wouldn't have stopped Texas on that drive, but when there's such an obvious call as a ball coming out of a player's hands after almost his entire body is on the ground being reviewed it's inexcusable and VERY suspect when one of the teams is working against the clock and could use any stoppage time possible. USC still blew the game, but those were incidents that nudged me a little more in the direction of disliking the review system college football has.

Ummm, he'll be playing with 5 NFL-caliber offensive lineman, an NFL running back, a defense with more talent behind him so that he won't have to make rash decisions, more talent at WR and a decent TE depending on where he goes. Also, I think his career numbers will be comparable to Drew Brees'.

And Leinart should be given a pass, because in the heat of the moment, people are irrational.

I for one was just taking digs at Leinart due to his piss-poor attitude, not his play.

Doesn't surprise me much that he's pissing and moaning on TV since he used to do interviews while wearing a "FBCS" shirt...

Let's just say that shit like that doesn't get forgotten in Tiger country, which is where he could have ended up playing before this little breakdown.

Texas quarterback Vince Young rushes for the game-winning touchdown against Southern California as Texas meets Southern California in the Rose Bowl, the national championship college football game in Pasadena, Calif., Wednesday, Jan. 4, 2006. Texas won the game 41-38.

Why is Leinart even bitching? 1.5 national titles and a Heisman trophy. I'd be pretty happy with that. It sucks for him that his other NC loss came in his last game but that's no reason to be a jerk off.

I thought the tight end, David Thomas had a great game. He's a hell of a football player. The entire offensive line was great also.

USC seemed so worried about containing the ground game and preventing the deep ball that they forgot the mid-range stuff. All those 10-20 yard passes! Granted, Young has a very quick release but so many of those yards were racked up by receivers who had no one around them for five yards when they caught it. That tight end was ALWAYS open when Young needed him, it seemed. You think USC would like, put a body on him at some point.

It's just a total lack of talent at CB and Linebacker.

"FBCS" = "FUCK the BCS", which is USC's way of pitching a hissy fit at being left out of the 2004 Sugar Bowl, which LSU won.

Tommy Tuberville pulled that shit also, does he get a free pass?

The bitching from USC was more than warranted.

Stuart Scott actually looked like he was going to pull a funny with the Heisman joke but he screwed it up with horrible comedic timing.

Hey Teke how do you feel about not having to hear about the 3-peat?

The difference is that Tuberville isn't going out of his way to de-legitimize LSU's championship for the 2003 season, which USC *is* doing...

All this "three titles in a row" hoopla pissed off a lot of people down LSU way, as we're pretty damn sure we could take down USC if we played them.

And, to address Dama, I'm feeling GREAT now that this whole "three titles" shit is done. No one from ESPN would take their mouths off of USC's collective cocks long enough to say "Oh, yeah, USC's first title has an asterisk by it."

I think that LSU in 2003 is just as much of a national champion as USC was last year, for the record. Doesn't matter if the system is flawed, that wasn't under LSU's control, which is something that the national media completely ignores.

That's the thing we'll never know, as the system is flawed. I hate the split national champion shit, but they both were equally the champions.

You know, there was a 13-0 Auburn team got shut out of the BcS. They didn't even get to "share" the championship like USC did. So yeah, shut up Matt Leinart.

Tommy Tuberville's team was also undefeated, whereas the 2003 mess involved three one-loss teams. I say he gets a free pass, only because Auburn would have put up a better fight than Oklahoma did.

That 13-0 team in Auburn didn't get past that #3 spot, and Tuberville did bitch. A lot.

I don't really believe in a playoff either, so I don't know how the fuck to fix this situation.
