In regards to the Jags vs. Colts this week, keep in mind that the previous meeting Indy played about as bad on offense as they possibly could, putting up a season low 10 points (this was in that early stretch where the Colts couldn't score for some reason). It's hard for me to imagine JAX with David Garrard putting up enough points here. I'm thinking it'll be a 24-10 type game.

 

I still don't really buy Seattle. And no, them beating the Colts on Christmas Eve would mean nothing since the Colts will likely be resting their starters by then. In fact I dare say that Seattle would win that game somewhat unimpressively, then maybe make the Super Bowl where the Colts would put a Niners/Chargers level beatdown on them.

The only team that has a similar style to Indy is Seattle. A really strong running back, more than one threatening WR, solid offensive line and really great defence. They only difference is at the Quaterback, which Manning is better than Hasselbeck.

 

 

Actually I think Cincinnati fits that closer than the Seahawks, don't get me wrong, I can still see Seattle as the #2 or #3 team in the NFL, but I don't know if Seattle is better than Cincinnati at this point. Although the Colts are a clear #1.

Once Tui gets playing time, that's the sign the Raiders have given up on the season. Which is kind of sad, since he might really deserve some of that playing time.

I'm almost fucking positive that Seattle is better than Cincinatti at this point. The Seahawks and Colts are like the NFL's version of the Spurs and Pistons, or hell even last year's Eagles and Patriots. They're clearly and by far the class of their conferences and everyone else just trips up and falls somewhere in place behind them.

 

In fact, it's to the point where really, I'm not looking to see who advances in the playoffs, but moreso who can provide the best possible matchup for a great game until their eventual sacrifice to Indianapolis. Any suggestions here? I'm thinking Denver-Cincy and a Seattle-NY rematch would be great. Cincy-San Diego could light up the scoreboards, too.

Just wondering but why would the Jags be talking shit about the Colts? They are playing an unbeaten team while using their backup QB.

 

Oh, and why exactly are the Seahawks this clear cut #2 team in the league? This is quite possibly the most lucky team I've seen since the 1999 Tennessee Titans. If Jay Feely simply kicks a 40 yard FG or Drew Bledsoe doesn't fuck up royally, we'd hear a lot less about the Seahawks.

I'll give them credit in the sense that "real" teams give the performance that they did on Monday. The Eagles were coming off their first win in a month, had a little momentum, should have been jazzed up due to the Reggie White stuff and on the first drive of the game Seattle takes a ton of time off the clock, scores, and never lets up. That is what good teams are supposed to do to shitty teams, yet so few actually do on a regular basis.

Seattle also barely beat the Niners by 2 points due to a missed 2 pt. conversion...so who knows with them really?

 

Here's the litmus test for how good a team is: Could they go on the road and beat the teams they are beating at home? Yeah, the Seahawks beat the Cowboys in Seattle but would they win that game in Dallas? I doubt it. I'm fairly sure that the Giants would beat them by at least 10 points at Giant Stadium, ditto Carolina (Carolina might beat them home or away really). I doubt Seattle could go to Soldier Field and win either. Hell, the Redskins are one of the few .500 teams the Seahawks played on the road and they lost that game. The Jags beat them soundly in Jacksonville as well.

The odd thing about the Giants being so good at home is that the home field advatage isn't very big. The crowds at Giants games suck.

Garrad's going to get killed by the Colts defense and throw at least two INT's that get returned for TD's. The Jags are kidding themselves if they think they're going to beat the Colts this late in the season now that everyone's warmed up (while the Jags lost their starting QB). It doesn't matter if they're at home or on the road...the Colts are just too badass to be stopped right now. The Steelers are *still* a better team than the Jags and they got murdered.

 

The Colts only true test of the regular season will be SD or Seattle if Holmgren decides to stick with his starters for that game (which would only probably happen if Dungy allowed his starters to achieve the "perfect" season).

Yeah but when all is said and done I don't think the Pats will be remembered as one of the absolute all time teams, and it's mainly due to winning all sorts of boring 17-14 type games. I mean they won't ever be up there with the 49ers or the Cowboys, who just put assbeatings on teams (55-10 over Denver for the Niners, 52-17 for the Cowboys over Buffalo).

 

Call me crazy but I think the Pats' destiny is to be the NFL version of the 1988-90 Detroit Pistons.

That doesn't mean anything. Their division sucking is why they have a playoff spot so early. Indy has just run out so far ahead of the field...there isn't anyone that compares to them in the NFC.

But you know, anyone could've said the same thing about the 2001 Patriots, is I guess kind of my point. Remember that year the Rams seemed like the unstoppable force on both sides of the ball whereas the previous year they lacked defense but were a force on offense (sound familiar?) and the Patriots still were able to beat them. Whether you win by 3 or 30, a win's still a win, and the Patriots style of football, if they won 24-17 or worse, you have to realize that they still outcoached and outplayed the opposition to get there. Some people find it boring, I look at it like perfect execution of perfect playcalling, which is something not seen in the league since Bill Walsh's Niners (which is why the Patriots-Niners comparisons, I certainly believe, are warranted). Brady may win another Super Bowl or two, maybe even as soon as next year.

 

Either way, the Seahawks resemble that squad, and they have tons of clear-cut advantages over everyone else in the NFC. I almost feel a bit awkward defending them when someone like Special K or MrRant should be, but I just can't agree that there's any team that's a more clear-cut #2 than Seattle is. Some media journalists have gotten a tremendous hard-on for San Diego recently as well, which is understandable since the defense has come together recently to catch up with that great offense, but, much like the Giants, they're young, inexperienced, and inconsistent, and the worst part is both teams having old-school, physical style coaches who are in charge of an explosive offense and inconsistent defense. Schottenheimer in particular can't deviate from his style of ball, either. The Giants missed an incredible amount of opportunities to establish themselves as the premier team in the NFC, whereas the Seahawks have taken every opportunity to do so. That's the biggest difference between a great team and an elite team.
