TJ Ford

I would say he's about 8-11th best point guard.

Especially if you count Tony Parker twice!!

Although I did forget about Iverson who would knock him out of the top 5. And before someone jumps on me for what I said about Gilbert and putting iverson in the top 5, I suggest you watch a wizards game and a philly game and you can see which one really plays the point.

So are you all saying Marbury is the PG equivalent to Shareef Abdur- Rahim in that he puts up all star numbers, but has little (Marbury) or no (SAR) postseason success to speak of?

No way Gilbert Arenas is above Marbury as a PLAYMAKER at the POINT GUARD position. he can outscore anyone on that list but as a point guard:

Nash

Kidd

Davis

Billups

Marbury

Ford(who honestly, I really want to put higher)

Arenas

Williams

Parker

If this is a list of playmakers/pure point guards, then Brevin Knight should be on it.

No, Marbury's actually made the playoffs, and has had winning seasons. I don't think SAR has had a winning season.

Its not SAR's fault for never having a winning season. Look where he played: Memphis/Vancouver, Atlanta, and Portland. He never had a chance to play on a good team.

And I acknowledged that Marbury made the playoffs. My point is what nogoodnick said in that SAR has not had good teams around him but he puts up very good numbers, which is your defense for Marbury being criticized.

He was traded to the TrailBlazer team that finished 41-41... and missed the playoffs for like the first time since before Walton played there. That's the closest to a winning season that he's ever seen.

Its funny to me how Chauncey is always rated #4 by everyone.

By the way, Chauncey changed his game up when he had that cup of coffee in Orlando, and then changed again after Brown got his hooks into him. He is about as close to a 50/50 balance of scoring and passing as I have seen in awhile.

Hell he went for 19 assists last night. Only Kidd and Nash could do that.

I think the phrase "you can't go home again" applies to Marbury. He is a decent enough point guard, but he has always been more effective scoring-wise when put at the shooting guard. He has always been much more of a scorer than a passer, despite attempts to convert him. He was touted as the savior of the Knicks franchise once they got him, and that was doomed to failure because there are so many problems with the Knicks right now that he can't fix, and most of them are in the front office.

Brevin Knight is great...and would be greater if a team who NEEDS him could get him.

Houston Rockets anyone...brevin knight would fit there BEAUTIFULLY.

Kidd, Iverson, Nash, Billups, Davis, Marbury, Arenas, Bibby and the rest is inconsequential. Miller, Cassell and Parker right outside if it matters.

I stand corrected....

Marbury had a 20 assist game?? When? Stats, man, give me stats!

::chuckles:: looks like no one is getting Brevin Knight... he is underrated, I will say that, though.

The first All-Star vote returns are in, and here are the starters so far

East

G: Iverson, Wade (Carter)

F: James, O'Neal (R. Wallace)

C: O'Neal (B. Wallace)

West

G: Bryant, Nash (Ginobili)

F: McGrady, Garnett (Duncan)

C: Yao (Camby)

Yao is the overall vote leader. The big travesty is that Elton Brand is *7th* among West forwards.

Camby's played so good this season that he deserves to start, now that I think about it. Yao will make the all-star team until the end of time, so no one else will ever get the chance.

Which is fucking bullshit, considering Yao isn't THAT great.

... except I can't think of many other centers out west who deserve to start over him.

Camby will still be on the team, and Yao is leading the league in scoring from the center position...it's not like he's having a terrible year. He's an excellent player who needs better conditioning and to stay out of foul trouble (he gets hit with ticky-tack fouls A LOT for a big guy, all the calls they don't make on Shaq, they give to Yao)

The problem with Elton Brand...is most of the people in China are going to vote for T-Mac at forward since he's on the same team as Yao...and KG has such a huge rep that he's gonna get votes anyway. And then you have Duncan so there's that other guy with a huge rep...it's just not gonna happen unfortunately.

Hmmm. I voted like a month into the season or so, and had Kobe, Allen, McGrady, KG, and Camby, and James, Iverson, Wade, Artest, and Curry. Some of them deserve it.

the Pacers are fools if they don't at least try to get a good bigman for their frontcourt. Notice how every season J O'Neal gets injured? He's always banging around alone in there, who else do they have? A bunch of average players. The other team puts their best frontcourt defender on him then he plays the best the other team has. Even without psycho ron, give him another big man down low, and they can play against Shaq/Zo and the Wallaces without J'Oneal always taking the brunt.

Year after year, its the same problems with the Pacers, this will be the 3rd year straight they've had these problems and they never do anything to fix them: 1) Artest does something stupid (even before last year, remember the stunt with the migraine and not flying with the team before GAME 6 of the ECF? the flagrant, and even worse the awful jacked up airball 3? I remember up to that point I was on the edge of my seat as a pistons fan, then i broke out in laughter and never had another tense moment). 2) Tinsley gets injured, 3) J'Oneal gets injured.

I suggest, package Artest/Tinsley for a really solid big man, PF or C (and graduate Sarunas to PG), and have the new guy start alongside JO at either PF or C whichever is better suited, similar to Wallace Squared (who are actually both PFs). Even better if you can also get a backup PG in the deal. I heard someone suggest K-Mart, which is not a bad option except he's also injury prone which is probably not what Indy needs. something along those lines though.

Then fill other positions as the season progresses, with future needs being 1) a pg to backup Sarunas, and 2) a wingman to play along with granger to fill the SF spot.

Remember when Dumars traded Stackhouse for Rip? He did that because he needed consistency. It didnt matter if Stackhouse was a "name" or he put up 20 pts, consistency was needed, and Rip Hamilton provided that (as does Chauncy Billups). Jamaal Tinsley is not consistent, in neither health or play.

With a strong 2-man frontcourt set, the team is in position to contend, all they need to do is strengthen up the backcourt. Having a strong back + frontcourt I feel is better than having your talent concentrated on the wing, ESPECIALLY if your a half-court team. I've seen way too many teams with great players who dont do anything becasue their frontcourt isn't strong enough (hello NJ).

if Tinsley and/or Jermaine gets injured again this season, you'll know I was right. memo to Indy, get yourself another big man, stat.

(as a PIstons fan I hope they ignore everything I just said and get a guard or SF)

Marbury gets a bad rap, but when you make that kind of money and your nickname is "Starbury" it comes with the territory. He's definitely a guy who, like someone said, needs to be playing alongside a top tier superstar to be totally effective. If he'd have stayed in Minnesota we wouldn't be having this conversation.

With the Nets he had an injured K-Mart, and KVH. Now, I happen to think Kidd is the best point guard in the NBA, but he still had the luxury of playing with Jefferson, and a reliable center.

Kidd also had Kerry Kittles, who had missed the entire 00-01 season. Richard Jefferson wasn't anything special in his rookie year, neither was Collins (Todd McCulloch was the man!) but Kittles was huge that season, not quite as invaluable as K-Mart, but right up there.

Kidd carried those teams though, Marbury couldn't have done that.

I agree; Kidd is my favorite player in the NBA, he's a different case. Anyone else (the Bibby, Billups types), would have done no better than Marbury.

Phil Jackson got his 300th win tonight as the Lakers downed the Wizards in what was a pretty sloppy game for both teams in the first half, until it got a bit close towards the end. They've won 6 of their last 7 now, so it's looking much better for them right now. Thankfully, this isn't anywhere near the mediocre team they had last year.
