MikeJordan23 0 Report post Posted December 12, 2005 It's expected that Pat Riley will name himself the new head coach in a press conference later today. MIAMI -- Miami Heat coach Stan Van Gundy is resigning today, citing personal family reasons. A team official spoke on condition of anonymity because the decision hasn't been revealed publicly. The source told The Associated Press that Van Gundy's decision would be announced later this morning. Van Gundy led the team to the best record in the Eastern Conference a season ago. It's not clear who would replace him, but there are indications that former Heat coach Pat Riley could return to the sideline. Riley named Van Gundy as his successor a little more than two years ago. The Heat are 11-10 this season. Shaquille O'Neal returned Sunday night in an OT win against the Wizards after missing 18 games with a sprained ankle. nogoodnick 0 Report post Posted December 12, 2005 I'm glad to see that Pat Riley is getting back into coaching. I always thought he was among the top guys in the NBA. Too bad for SVG because he did a great job his rookie season. He'll end up coaching somewhere very soon I would imagine.
2GOLD 0 Report post Posted December 12, 2005 You know what, look at Pat Riley. That fucker doesn't look like he has mob connections, that fucker looks like the mob is afraid of him! And the Triads! Riley looks like the kind of man who wouldn't even stop eating his steak dinner to kill you, he'd just pull the gun and shoot you in the stomach while he was in the middle of chewing. Then as you laid on the ground bleeding the death, he'd calmly and quietly ask someone to bring him some more steak sauce.

the max 0 Report post Posted December 12, 2005 One of these days, we'll figure out a new word to separate 'resigns' as in "signs again" and 'resigns' as in "quits his/her post". I always get them confused.
Guest Report post Posted December 12, 2005 I remember hearing something a few years ago that said Shaq never wanted to play for Pat Riley. Tell me if this is true.

Rendclaw 0 Report post Posted December 13, 2005 Shaq has stated publically that he has always wanted to play for Riley. This was about the easiest thing to call in the last ten years, aside from the Bulls winning another title back in the 90s. It was just a matter of time before Riley was going to elbow the Hedgehog aside and assume command himself. I personally think that the game has passed Riley by, which was why he took the GM job in the first place. Somehow, I don;t think we are going to see the fast-break Showtime style that made Riley a Hall of Fame coach to begin with... No, we are going to see the plodding, pushing, shoving, elbow-throwing Thug Ball style that made Riley hated during his tenure with the Knicks.
Guest Report post Posted December 13, 2005 Ok, then I read wrong about Riley. Him taking over in Miami is not a good idea.
cabbageboy 0 Report post Posted December 13, 2005 That press conference was a total laugher I thought. Especially the part where Riley said he'll mis SVG because now he has no one to fill out his pre game chalk board! It's amusing really that Van Gundy would now have this family crisis and quit. It's just soooo blatant that Riley basically just fired him but doesn't want to come off like a total heel.
