NFL Week XV

Recommended Posts

Oh good, Tirico and Sharpe are calling this game. Why can't they call the Sunday night games?

Amen, in my opinion Sterling Sharpe is a great fucking analyst. Such a refreshing change from the usual ESPN garbage.

This really, really worries me. I'm telling you guys, NE beats the Colts in the playoffs this year = me never watching the NFL again. Ever. But let's get real here. The Pats have beat down the Jets, the Bills, and now Tampa (a team that always sucks in cold weather...and has Chris Simms). If they beat Jacksonville 28-0 in the first round, then I'll cradle up in a corner with a blanket and pacifier.

I'd personally would love to see the Colts get bitchslapped at home by the Patriots after going undefeated during the regular season.

I just love THIS version of the New England Patriots, the kind that outcoach and out-execute opposing teams, and beat the shit out of you on both sides of the ball. Also, having the Patriots go on to win again this year would mean that we got to experience the only team to win three Super Bowls in a row, and truly deserving it.

They were flying under the radar last year as well, with all the talk being about the Steelers or the Colts. The year before, they were the team to beat, as I recall (though it could have been Tennessee getting a lot of love that year..).

New England was underloved in the '03 season too. For the early part of the season, Kansas City was getting most of the love, then when they fell back to earth it was all about the Peyton vs. McNair battle.

At school I remember debating several times during the regular season about how much better the Pats were than the Colts, Chiefs or Titans, and the postseason proved that.

After the utter crap games I had to watch last week, I get Jets/Miami and Saints/Panthers tomorrow according to my TV guide. DAMNIT.

The sad thing is, if you look at the schedule, the Saints/Panthers game is by far the best early NFC game on tomorrow. So really, Fox is giving you the best game on as scary as that may be given what it is....

If I'm not getting a Giant game on fox, its usually a Carolina game for some reason, and there boring as hell. Give me Seattle/Tennesse, just not the freaking Panthers again. And FUCK Jet fans, give me Minnesota/Pitts.

edit: atleast I get Dallas/Washington.

You know what the Patriots are reminding me of right now? The Ravens from 2003. Yes, that's right. When they had Anthony Wright and Jamal Lewis was tearing it up and they started killing people 42-7 and shit. Nevermind that they were still a ho hum 10-6 team.

I'm going out on a huge limb now, especially considering I don't even like the Jags. But here goes: Jacksonville over the Pats in the first round. They killed off the fucking Jim Kelly Bills in 96, and they can do it again.

Consider yourself lucky. I'm getting San Fran @ Jacksonville on FOX. I guess I'll be watching Colts/Chargers.

As a biased NE fan, I'm curious; How serious are non-Patriots fans taking them? Do they scare you if you're a fan of an AFC playoff bound team?

I can't stand the Patriots, but they don't worry me at all, primarily because they won't have home field advantage throughout the playoffs.

The Pats being back is also strangely coinciding with a cupcake streak in their schedule. Since getting whipped by the Colts on monday night, the toughest opponent they've had was KC, and lost. They've got the Jets next week, and then Miami in Foxborough. Tampa Bay is also consistently atrocious in the cold, with a rookie QB and RB going up against a clever coach and seasoned defense. If any of their divisional opponents were worth a fuck, this team would have at least one more loss.

They're a good team, but they are not going to play in the Superbowl.

Well sinjcd wer're resorting to what ifs, if NE wasn't as decimated with injuries for the first half of the season, maybe they would have won the Denver and KC games for example?

Jaml Lewis is more than likely out for monday as well

That actually might IMPROVE Baltimore's offense.

It will.

Past readers of my NFL column here will remember that I used to refer to Lewis as JAMAL~!, in the fine tradition of PRIEST~! and MARSHALL~! After his miserable season this year, Lewis has lost the single-name tilde-bang status reserved for the best RBs.

I'd say all of those guys have lost single name tildebang status.

Well, with RBs they tend to go really fast when they do go and get the equivalent of taken behind the barn and shot. Kinda like HHH with Flair.

What I don't understand is why on ESPN these people have apparently no concept of the playoff scenario. They keep blathering about the Pats meeting the Colts in the AFC title game...WTF?? I'd like to know how in the fuck that is going to happen. Denver basically has the 2nd bye locked up (or at the least the AFC West), though I guess the Bengals can get it too if they win out and the Broncos lose to San Diego. Either way Cincy and Denver are your 2 and 3 seeds I'd think, with the Pats going as the 4. Thus they'd play JAX the first round and then the Colts the 2nd round.

But as I said, as much as I have badmouthed Jacksonville the past few weeks on these threads I think they can take the Pats in that 1st round. Just wondering, but does anyone else find it unfair that teams with a better record sometimes don't get home field? The Jags will likely end up 12-4, the Pats at best 11-5. I know the Pats would win a shitty division while the Jags finish 2nd to the Colts, but anyone else think it's unfair for the team with the better record in a game not to have the home field in that particular game?

last second predictions

Pittsburgh at Minnesota.

-I don't think the whole boat thing will have much effect on the vikings, but I think Pittsburgh will derail the Vikings Momentum. Pittsburgh by 10.

San Diego at Indianapolis.

-Indy will get a tough fight from SD until about the mid-point of the 4th quarter and will pull away. Colts by 17.

San Francisco at Jacksonville.

-SF is playing to lose. Jacksonville still fumbles around. Jax by 7.

Seattle at Tennessee.

-Seattle could be in a trap game here and I'll go with a moderate upset here. Tennessee by 4.

Arizona at Houston.

-The jobber class of the NFL clash. Houston finds another way to blow the game. Arizona by 6.

NY Jets at Miami.

-Miami wins by 7 to keep things interesting and for NY to keep hope alive for Reggie.

Carolina at New Orleans.

-A must-win for Carolina. Carolina by 10

Dallas at Washington.

-Dallas want to avenge the MNF with Washington and they need to win to stay alive. Dallas by 3.

Cincinnati at Detroit.

-The crowd, could be interesting as the city of Detroit has turned against Millen. Bengals by 17.

Cleveland at Oakland.

-Oakland by 6. No reason

Philadelphia at St. Louis.

-Philadelphia is miserable. St. Louis by 7.

Atlanta at Chicago.

-Major game. It's make or break time for Orton. If he goes Orton today, he needs to get moved out. Vick will be scrambling as much as he can. Atlanta by 3.

Monday

Green Bay at Baltimore.

-Who says the NFL needs to schedule MNF better? Nothing like two sub .500 teams playing on the national spotlight. Give it to the Packers. By 3.

If Cincy/Denver loses their first-round playoff game (and I don't think that would be too much of a stretch with Cincy, a young team with no playoff experience), the Pats would avoid the Colts until the AFC title game.

We all know Tiki Barber is the man, but one guy who needs to get his props is Plaxico Buress. I didn't see him play alot before he signed with the Giants but I'm glad we have him. Not only is he capable of being a threat in the passing game, but he's a reciever that actually BLOCKS downfield. On both of Tiki Barber's long touchdown runs last night, Plaxico made key blocks down field. I imagine this comes from playing in Pittsburgh early in his career where the ground game was very important.

Plaxico has basically been the reason for the resurgance of Amani Toomer. Amani was done as a number one reciever, but has really fit in the slot position as a number two reciever.

Am I the only one wishing he got Steelers/Vikings?

It's probably because we have ten stations showing football games, and the breakdown is:

7 - SD/IND

2 - SEA/TEN

1 - SF/JAX

I mean, couldn't one of those SD/IND stations show the Vikings game? :(

Stupid play by the Chargers' defender there. Could have had the ball in Colts territory if he fell on it and instead he tries to pick it up and run.

Peyton sacked and his RG is injured.
