AboveAverage484 0 Report post Posted December 20, 2005 Hey, All Music is the shit, those guys live for music. Well, it's their job, but you know. I wouldn't listen to the music I do today if it wasn't for that site. I've discovered many a great band through that site.
TheBigSwigg 0 Report post Posted December 20, 2005 I would classify Coheed as Prog rock. As did Entertainment Weekly & Rolling Stone, IIRC
Matt Young 0 Report post Posted December 20, 2005 Every C&C song i've heard is about a girl or heartbreak or something to that effect. I'm not saying they are bad, but thats emo to me. Ahem.... no. http://www.cobaltandcalcium.com/index.php?...d_cambria_story

The Czech Republic 0 Report post Posted December 20, 2005 Let's compromise and call 'em emo-prog. They sound whiny and abrasive, and are generally unpleasant to listen to (emo), but have ambitious musical and concept ideas (prog), so how bout that.

Guest Anticrombie Report post Posted December 20, 2005 This was in the album review on Allmusic for C & C's most recent album, and I think puts things into proper perspective as far as their musical style is concerned. It's not necessary to know all of the facts and story lines to enjoy IV, which is a prog rock opera on par with anything that Rush or Queensrÿche ever released. But the interesting thing to listen for is the evolution of the group's sound, since success sideswiped the group with 2003's In Keeping Secrets of Silent Earth. The emo chords and songwriting dynamics have been shed in favor of a more prog rock, heavy metal sound that was so dominant throughout the '80s.
snuffbox 0 Report post Posted December 20, 2005 That doesnt matter...everyone in the world knows theyre emo shit.
Carnival 0 Report post Posted December 20, 2005 That review says they shed the emo chords, meaning they used to sound emo. Maybe they don't so much anymore. But they are still in that class, with the other whiney stuff on the radio. Snuffbox, other people are trying to make valid points, you are just making yourself look retarded. Just quit while your behind.

The Czech Republic 0 Report post Posted December 20, 2005 What's an Emo chord? E minor diminished? Three people will get that, and none of them will be emo listeners.
nl5xsk1 0 Report post Posted December 20, 2005 http://allcentral.com/ That is the only All music that matters. Not some other gay site. It pisses me off that All (well, Bill in particular) are making Ft Collins a pop/punk hotbed, years after I left there. When I lived there, the scene sucked. I leave, and a few years later they open a recording studio there and get bands that are at least half-way talented to tour through. +1?

snuffbox 0 Report post Posted December 20, 2005 Along with 'emo', 'jam band' is my least favorite label for a band...I prefer using the label 'a band' and then doing my best to describe the kind of music that a band/artist plays. When that fails, and I doens't no no better...I ask myself, What Would violentJ Do?
Carnival 0 Report post Posted December 20, 2005 Violent J would jump in the studio make a song in 2 hours that wouldn't even be considered "music" cuz it's so fucking horrible. See making fun of ICP REALLY bothers me, since I do it on a daily basis, emo boy, go cry about it.
nl5xsk1 0 Report post Posted December 20, 2005 No, it'd be considered "music" ... it's just that the word "music" would just have an adjective such as "horrible" or "barely listenable" prefacing it. I agree with snuffbox re: 'jam band' ... such a stupid name for the genre.
C Dubya 04 0 Report post Posted December 20, 2005 re: "jam bands" I agree that it is a horrible name, especially considering how different a lot of the groups lumped in are.
Carnival 0 Report post Posted December 20, 2005 I've deemed many ICP songs "unlistenable" I've also deemed Czech "Unoutstandable"
snuffbox 0 Report post Posted December 20, 2005 There are some (alot) varsity club hippies that will ONLY listen to bands that have been labeled 'jam'. They refuse to try anything beyond Phish or other groups/artists that are similar. I have no problem with Phish, I dont really like them outside of a couple songs...but their fanbase (like DMB's, etc) is just sadly one dimensional. My recently deceased band could even be lableled 'jam' for a song or two and a penchant for improvisation, freestyling, and varied setlists. But every song is diferent, just like with bands under the 'jam' umbrella. Every bands inspirations, goals, etc are different and when matched by talent/passion it makes something unique. Terms like 'emo' or 'jam' attempt to lump too many bands into one category until they dont fit...Jeff Buckley sang with a high voice and was very EMOtional, but is he 'emo'? The Grateful Dead had origins in jug music, bluegrass, rock, etc and didnt record any songs that sounded like another in their catalogue...yet they noodle away and play for hippies, so theyre a 'jam band'. And, of course, Coheed&Cambria has a high voiced singer and songs that deal with EMOtional topics so they have to be 'emo'.

I've listened to Phish for a long time (less now than before) and those kind of fans always really annoyed me. Some of my friends in high school and college who were Phisheads refused to try anything new. I'd put on random things like the Descendents or the Toasters or NoFX or some random jazz guy and they would shit all over it because it wasn't Phish. Pissed me off. snuffbox 0 Report post Posted December 20, 2005 Its frustrating when people refuse to branch out. People can like whatever music they want, but to adamently deny anything different is a pretty miserable outlook. Its also pretty hypocritical to the old hippie attitude. People who need to label every band as emo, jam, etc are just annoying.

Special K 0 Report post Posted December 21, 2005 I sort of like Coheed and Cambria, but they also seem pretty pussy to me. All I know is that the label "punk" is now applied to the most worthless, wussy bands on the planet.

Special K 0 Report post Posted December 22, 2005 I wondered what kind of crazy, off-the-wall shit our kids would listen to to piss us off. I should have figured it would be whiny, emasculated shit. By kids who can't play their instruments.
Art Sandusky 0 Report post Posted December 22, 2005 re: "jam bands" I agree that it is a horrible name, especially considering how different a lot of the groups lumped in are. No. This is an excuse by them. It's a perfectly accurate name that is recognized as so bad that even their listeners avoid using it at all costs, by disguising it using other, more amicable terms. Then the music starts and it's THE SAME SHIT.
