Guest The Showcase Report post Posted December 26, 2005 Anybody else jacked about this? Mega Man X was one of the greatest games on the SNES...and I never played the rest so I'm amped beyond belief.

The Metal Maniac 0 Report post Posted December 27, 2005 Any idea what the release date is? For a while it was supposed to out in like, november/december, but now I've heard not until like, January. There mere thought of this game gives me a hard-on.

Lil' Bitch 0 Report post Posted December 27, 2005 I loved the X series, but gave up once they went 3D. Totally lame IMO.
Mr. S£im Citrus 0 Report post Posted December 27, 2005 I actually liked X-7; it was much better than I expected it to be, 3-D and all. X-8, on the other hand, licks balls; it's so ridiculously easy that my eight year-old son beat it the first day I got it.
Renegade 0 Report post Posted December 27, 2005 Is the collection going to have any extra content? I own all the games and have played them to death.
jwpeer 0 Report post Posted December 27, 2005 I'm looking forward to this, i just wish there was an xbox versiob with 720 p support. I'll just have to go with the gamecube one.
AlaskanHero 0 Report post Posted December 27, 2005 Is the collection going to have any extra content? I own all the games and have played them to death According to the ad on the back of my trusty Game Informer magazine, it's gonna have Mega X through X-6. It'll also have the Mega Man Battle & Chase racing game. Oh and there's some original and sketch art, remixed soundtracks, "plus much more!". So yeah. Pretty much everyone I know who played X-7 would disagree with you there--but I didn't play it, so no comment. X-8 I think is fun. Does it being easy make it a bad game? That's a poor argument. However, X6 started a huge downslide of quality. X5 had a few development shortcuts taken on it, and not all of the innovations worked well, but I really liked it and it was harder/more fun overall than X4, IMO. The best part about the collection is that x2 and x3 alone would each cost 2-3 times the amount of the entire MMXC.
Aero 0 Report post Posted December 27, 2005 I've never been able to get my hands on X2, so I'll be buying it if only for that. Plus, I never played X4-X6, so yeah... I can't wait.

AndrewTS 0 Report post Posted December 27, 2005 Battle and Chase being 'meh' is kind of expected. It's just the novelty of having it there. Mega Man Soccer isn't very good at all, but plenty of people want that. X6 is laziness all around and I don't plan on even touching it if I can help it. Likely they'll want you to play it to unlock something, though.
Renegade 0 Report post Posted December 27, 2005 You're being way too hard on X6, especially compared to other lacklusture X games like X3. The only thing that bothered me about it was the restircted vision if you entered a stage at the wrong time.
AndrewTS 0 Report post Posted December 28, 2005 You're being way too hard on X6, especially compared to other lacklusture X games like X3. The only thing that bothered me about it was the restircted vision if you entered a stage at the wrong time. The animation was extremely poor. Sprites for existing characters I could swear had animation hacked out. The bosses sucked. Looked like crap. Sounded like crap. Weapons were pretty crap too. Controls seemed more sluggish than the other games. The translation was either done on a weekend by a 1st semester class of Japanese students learning English, or it was written from scratch by the Mega Man Robot Naming Committee. Reploids can either be rescued the first time you find them...or if the Nightmares get to them, they become EVIL ROBOT ZOMBIES YOU HAVE NO CHOICE BUT TO KILL! You can miss some parts and then be unable to retrieve them on the same game. I'll take X3 over it anyday.
Anya 0 Report post Posted December 28, 2005 X3 has too much crap to collect and bad pacing. You don't get all the good stuff until the end and it takes a bunch of backtracking. When designed right you should be able to get the powerups as you playthrough the levels the first time if you play in the right order. That is why I like 1 and 4 the best, you can just fly through the game once you have it memorised.
jwpeer 0 Report post Posted December 28, 2005 ...Why would you want to memorize the levels and do them 'in the right order' I had the most fun in mega man games doing them out of order and challenging myself to beat the bosses however I could. More fun
AndrewTS 0 Report post Posted December 29, 2005 Maybe you like completely linear games without any incentive to replay old levels, but it's not really an issue for me as long as it isn't tedious (like Warrior Within). X4 was *really* easy, though. However, X1 is still one of the best Mega Man games, period.
Anya 0 Report post Posted December 29, 2005 It's fun to beat them as quickly as possible, just dashing through everything. I think X1 is still overall the best. Doubt Capcom will ever top it. X4 may be easy but it's still great.
Renegade 0 Report post Posted December 29, 2005 (edited) The animation was extremely poor. Sprites for existing characters I could swear had animation hacked out. Zero's animations were redone, and rainy turtloid had very few frames. Otherwise nothing too bad compared to X4 or 5 The bosses sucked. Looked like crap. Sounded like crap. Weapons were pretty crap too. There were some duds, but I can say that about any X game. There were however some good ones. Commander Yammark, Blizzard Wolfang, Blaze Heatnix, High Max, Dynamo and Gate were fine. Sounded like crap? I'm not sure what a giant mecha turtle is supposed to sound like but I didn't see any problem with the voices. Controls seemed more sluggish than the other games Besides obvious intentional things like X's sabre and Zero's buster I didn't notice this. All the PSX games are pretty sluggish compared to the Snes ones. The translation was either done on a weekend by a 1st semester class of Japanese students learning English, or it was written from scratch by the Mega Man Robot Naming Committee. Can't argue with that. Reploids can either be rescued the first time you find them...or if the Nightmares get to them, they become EVIL ROBOT ZOMBIES YOU HAVE NO CHOICE BUT TO KILL! You can miss some parts and then be unable to retrieve them on the same game. There are other measures, such as quitting the level or killing yourself or moving offscreen. I'm not saying it's great but there are ways around it. EDIT: Oh yeah and the shadow armor, that was a cool armor. AndrewTS 0 Report post Posted December 29, 2005 (edited) "Zero's animations were redone, and rainy turtloid had very few frames. Otherwise nothing too bad compared to X4 or 5" X5 had choppiness too, but it was very apparent in x6. And Zero having fewer frames wouldn't have mattered if he controlled better, but he didn't. "There were some duds, but I can say that about any X game. There were however some good ones. Commander Yammark, Blizzard Wolfang, Blaze Heatnix, High Max, Dynamo and Gate were fine. Sounded like crap? I'm not sure what a giant mecha turtle is supposed to sound like but I didn't see any problem with the voices." Every voice was like "dull Japanese guy reading script while apparently falling asleep." The Yammar option was useful during actual gameplay--but pretty much the other weapons were dull and useless. Dynamo was nothing new, High Max was a nice design, but the regular Mavericks were pretty lazy designs. Yammark was a total wuss. Scaravich was apparently some sort of joke that made it until the final game. Rainy Turtloid was...big. Yeah, big. Pretty much it. "Besides obvious intentional things like X's sabre and Zero's buster I didn't notice this. All the PSX games are pretty sluggish compared to the Snes ones." It just never seemed to control very well. Zero was massively toned down from even X5 (in which he was toned down from X4 even), to the point where he never seemed to do what you need to do. X's saber of course was slow as all hell, but I know that was intentional. There seemed to be lots of inconsistent lag in the controls. "There are other measures, such as quitting the level or killing yourself or moving offscreen. I'm not saying it's great but there are ways around it." I could have sworn that if the reploids are zombified, even if you die it's been done and you would have to re-load the entire game. If I'm wrong, my bad, but I seem to recall it being a pain in the BUTT regardless. The fact that MMX5 is my second favorite X game (behind the original) also heavily colored my opinion of X6. Anya 0 Report post Posted December 29, 2005 X5 has the lamest Maverick designs. Only 3 is worse. They have never managed to outdo the first in art design. What's the big deal about letting a reploid die? So what if you lose some lame power up? all the good ones you might need are really easy to get. In all the times I played through X6 I never had a problem with a good power being lost. I think I rank them from best to worst 1, 4, 2, 5, 6, 3, 7, 8.
Renegade 0 Report post Posted December 29, 2005 I'd personally rank them 1, 2, 4, 6, 5, 3, 7, 8.
DrVenkman PhD 0 Report post Posted December 29, 2005 Which game has Duff McWhalen in it?
Renegade 0 Report post Posted December 29, 2005 That would be X5, where the bosses are named after GN'R members. Rumor has it the developing team are big fans.
AndrewTS 0 Report post Posted January 1, 2006 (edited) Why would anyone rank x6 over x5? And x7 has the single worst design with Tornado Tonion, but McWhalen is impossible to defense. Izzy Glow was just an old guy. Half of the x6 designs were really awful though, although the non-maverick guys were ok. And X5 had Dynamo, don't forget. BUTT 0 Report post Posted January 1, 2006 That would be X5, where the bosses are named after GN'R members. Rumor has it the developing team are big fans. I'd say it's pretty obvious, considering the new character named "Axl" and the fact that one of the stage themes in X3 is a ripoff of "My Michelle".
