And yet they still got run out of Boston by the Bruins.

Hmm... who's the one-hit wonder from the 2004 Finals again?

They've got serious toughness issues. They can't score either, which is odd considering the talent they have. They're built for the Western Conference.

I'm screwed when I go to work later in the morning. I've already been razzed by my buddies. Telqvist stood on his fucking head. Despite my hate for the Leafs, i'm a fan of his.

P.S- Dogbert: As an Oilers fan i'm not really supposed to agree with you on many things, but the Jim Hughson homerism is fucking brutal. I remember a few weeks back when the Oilers beat the Canucks in overtime Hughson couldn't stop talking about the Canucks and how PECA hauled the Canucks player to the ice. Even Millen was all over the Oil. As much as I hate Harry Neale and Bob Cole, Hughson and Millen are much much worse so I understand where you are coming from.

Tampa seemed to get too complacent after LeCavalier's goal and expected the Bruins to sleepwalk through the rest of the game. I was happy to see Raycroft play well after getting off to a shaky start as well. Apparently he tweaked his knee and we'll know more before the game on tuesday against the Sharks (Joe's big return).

Zhamnov broke his ankle. I almost feel bad for not caring about his health and more about whether or not the Bruins are responsible for his salary for the rest of the year.

The defense looks much improved. Gill seems to actually care now, Stuart has made a world of difference on him as far as puck movement goes. Tanabe still sucks at decision-making, but pairing him with Leetch is a good idea. Jurcina and Alberts are playing better as well.

Drats was having a terrible year, and didn't look ready. I'm not sure about this trade. Drats could devlop into a good player, but the Rangers are stacked with good D prospects. Hopefully Sykora (another czech) can improve the scoring.

Flyers have 3 games left on the road trip, with New Jersey and Chicago being the first two, which they should win, then the final game at Detroit, which should be a great test. If they win the last 3 games on this trip, they finish 10-0-1(overtime loss) on this trip, which is terrific.

Dogbert, I'm not trying to start an argument or anything, but I think you are completely mistaken.

Maybe one of the calls was a "phantom call", in this case the holding the stick on Leopold. BUT there is no good camera angle for it and the ref is right there. As far as the overtime penalty, Bertuzzi is clearly tripped by Leopold. The leg is right there. I don't see how that can be disputed. And the Canucks only scored the overtime goal because Phaneuf just stood there blankly and Kiprussoff did a comically hilarious fall while Morrison put it in an open net. I think the problem with the reffing comes from the rules. The refs are pressured so hard to make tons of calls that they do screw up once in a while.

And to be fair, where are your complaints about the total non-call on Bertuzzi in the first, or the stupid no-goal call for the Canucks first goal? And again, to be fair, if the Flames had better penalty-killing (6 for 10 in this game) aside from Yelle, they likely would not have lost.

As far as the Lightning being a one hit wonder, that may be. But keep this in mind: they won. The Flames didn't win anything. They have something to prove too.

To show how callous I am, the first thing I said was, 'Maybe he'll have to miss the rest of the year and the B's can just quietly buy him out of his deal in the offseason.' I'd like to say that I hope it's bad enough (and he's old enough) that it'll lead to his retirement, but I'm too strong of a believer in karma to say something like that.

Yes, the Flames' PK dropped the ball. The point is that the calls should never have been made in the first place.

My issue with the OT call was that a Canuck player did the exact same thing to Iginla right after the call was made, and the referee chose not to call it. I don't think that can happen by accident.

As for the calls on Bertuzzi, the Canucks scored 15-20 seconds after the goal was negated on the exact same play, so it didn't make a difference in the game; neither did the penalty, because the Flames did nothing on the powerplay. The botched calls on Calgary late in the game not only made a big difference in the game, but also most likely determined who won the game.

JT makes his return to Boston tonight when the Sharks come to town.

If you were going to the game, would you cheer a former player of your favorite team that was traded? Joe may not have been my favorite player in Bruins history and I've certainly criticized him a lot on here, but I think I'd cheer him to show him that his efforts were appreciated. Plus, the return that the Bruins got for him has helped (although it took some time). I've become a Marco Sturm fan because of the way he plays the game. He plays hard, smart team hockey. The Bruins have needed a player like him for a while now. Stuart is what I expected of him, a very good defenseman with good offensive skills. Primeau has certainly asserted himself on the third line (which I like the set-up of). So, it's hard to cry about JT leaving when he never brought the team to great levels of success in the playoffs. At the same time, I appreciated having his talent on my favorite team.

I think the crowd is split tonight 60-40 in favor of Joe. Fans seem to be fed up with MOC and his band of morons making decisions. They recalled Thomas from Providence (he had to clear waivers, which was pretty nerve-wracking). Raycroft is apparently still day-to-day, so Jordan Sigalet may make his NHL debut. It's either him or Thomas, who has a whopping four games of NHL experience.

So did anyone see the "player" in the Montreal practice last night? Hilarity. He could play for that team instead of some other deserving players *cough*Bonk*cough*

4th all-time in games (1639)

11th in goals (640)

43rd in assists (698)

24th in points (1338)

Most powerplay goals ever.

I'd put him in.

Howe has played more games. Messier was like 10 or so behind him when he hung up the skates (I believe).

Andreychuk most assuredly should have retired after winning the Cup. I understand having the fuel to play another year or two, but once you reach the pinacle of the game (Captaining the Cup winner) there's nowhere to go but down. He's a definite HOFer.

And the max is MUCH more forgiving than I: Sturm's played better than I thought he would, Stuart's played worse (the guy was supposed to be the crown jewel of the trade, and if wasn't for the fact that the B's D is horrible he'd be a 3 or 4 d-man) and Primeau is another 3rd or 4th liner, which the B's already had 6 of. The team's played better, but I don't know if it's because the Thornton trade. If I was going to tonight's game, I'd be rooting for the B's to win, but for Thornton to light them up for like 5 points.

In other news:

The Islanders sent Janne Niinimaa and a 5th round pick in 07 to Dallas for John Erskine and a 2nd round pick.

It's on dallasstars.com, and Mike Milbury is a dumbshit.

Joe Thornton got ejected early in the first period tonight after checking Hal Gill from behind and injuring Gill. If I was Thornton then I would have done the same thing. That big lumux never protected him.

I didn't think he hit him all that hard, but he did hurt him. Gill's a pussy.

If I was there watching Thornton's return to Boston and had went for that reason, I'd be fucking pissed.

The Thornton "penalty" and misconduct were such bullshit calls. It was so obvious that Gill had seen the hit coming (making it obvious that it wasn't a hit from behind) and even more obvious that Thornton purposely skated to Gill's left before making the hit. How the ref could call a misconduct on that is stunning.

I can only guess that they were afraid that the emotions would cause the game to get out of hand, and that the B's would be looking for payback hits. Or something. Because there's no other reason to 86 a guy for a hit like that.

Thornton even went to the B's dressing room after getting kicked out to check on Gill, who admitted that he saw it coming and just did a piss-poor job of defending himself. Sadly, I hear that it's just a pinched nerve and he won't miss much playing time.

You wouldn't be the only one. The place was almost sold out because Thornton's return, and the crowd was pretty noticably thinning out as the game wore on. The fact that the B's were getting shelled didn't help, but even when it was 6-1, if Joe was still in the game, people would have stayed. I contemplated buying scalper tickets, but saw how much over face value the scalpers wanted and passed on the idea. Paying $75 for cheap seats to a game between two 12th place teams? No thanks.

Mad Mike strikes again, but it does give the Islanders a couple million in cap space. Plus, Niinimaa has sucked this year.
