Masked Man of Mystery 0 Report post Posted January 3, 2006 Okay, David Lee Roth's been on the radio with his new show in Howard Stern's slot for a little under an hour now. Infinity dropped the ball big time. He has almost no energy to the show, he has music running under him the whole time, he keeps referring to staff members and we have no idea who they are. He randomly plays songs(including a belting soul song at somewhere around 6:15) and just ugh....I'm sorry, but if they thought they could replace Howard Stern with this, they have another thing coming. I wasn't expecting Howard Stern, but I was expecting entertaining and this is more random and just bad. If it gets better, I'll be happy to post later, but I very much doubt it will be so. Any one else listening with an opinion?
Masked Man of Mystery 0 Report post Posted January 3, 2006 All right, he's getting a little better now, discussing censorship and how silly it's getting.
nl5xsk1 0 Report post Posted January 3, 2006 DLR's show was so bad it was good. (Compared to Stern's, which at the end was so bad it was just unlistenable). Roth's show sounds painfully like a Mad TV skit, with pretty much every radio jock stereotype & cliche in full effect.

Masked Man of Mystery 0 Report post Posted January 3, 2006 He keeps saying it's 6 am, this is getting very annoying, among other things about this show annoying me
Masked Man of Mystery 0 Report post Posted January 3, 2006 It's finally, blessedly over. He says it'll get better from here, but I won't set my alarm to 6 am for him again

Masked Man of Mystery 0 Report post Posted January 3, 2006 It's a good thing that Masked Man of Mystery supplied us with this helpful and informative account of David Lee Roth's new radio program. Hey, I got up at 6 in the morning, I might as well spread the word to prevent others from doing the same
UZI Suicide 0 Report post Posted January 4, 2006 It was horrible. It just sounded like random coked out rants from him, with a few songs that nobody has ever heard of mixed in. Then he brings in his 90 year old uncle and interviews him for an hour. Just awful. I heard Adam Carolla's new show this morning and it was much better. Masked Man of Mystery 0 Report post Posted January 4, 2006 It almost felt.....prerecorded or something and edited down before the uncle comes in, I had the radio on for the full 4 hours, but I was hardly paying attention soon after the uncle, I'm sure it was nice for David to talk to him and all, but it wasn't really very interesting. I'm really hoping Sirius gets a good walkman type thing now, because even having to pay for Howard Stern will be better than this dreck, and in my opinion nothing good is really on until 9am where I am, which is when Stephanie Miller comes on. At least in my opinion.
Corey_Lazarus 0 Report post Posted January 4, 2006 It was boring. Talked to the same guy for 2 hours. Interesting conversation, but such a huge letdown after Stern's show, which I knew it would be.
nl5xsk1 0 Report post Posted January 4, 2006 Stern hasn't been listenable for YEARS. As soon as he amped up the "I'm the creator of talk radio. Before me there was nothing. The government is after me and me alone" bullshit, he stopped being entertaining and just became another media blowhard.
bobobrazil1984 0 Report post Posted January 4, 2006 (edited) wrong. in fact, his ginormous super-ego made him even more listeneable. There are some people who I never ever want to become humble, they msut always be egomaniacs. Among them Hulk Hogan, Stern, and William Shatner. As far as Roth goes, I might try to give him a listen tomororw morning while getting ready for work. It just seems like an awful idea though. The west coasters got it better with Adam Corolla i'd imagine. Edited January 4, 2006 by metr0man
Corey_Lazarus 0 Report post Posted January 4, 2006 Undoubtedly. Plus, Stern was still interesting thanks to ARTIE F'N LANG.
Angle-plex 0 Report post Posted January 5, 2006 Stern's been going downhill (slowly) since '94, but I still love his show. I only listened to a little of DLR before I shut it off.
Corey_Lazarus 0 Report post Posted January 5, 2006 Roth is having a serious talk show. It's good for what it is: an actual talk radio show where some serious topics are being addressed (I do believe this morning's was gun control). Unfortunately, I don't wanna hear about serious topics when I'm barely awake and want either stupid humor or music on the radio to keep me up. Roth would be better served as a host on a talk radio station, not syndicated to mostly rock stations.
nl5xsk1 0 Report post Posted January 5, 2006 Artie Lange had been carrying the humor on Stern for 5+ years. He was enjoyable; Stern bitching and moaning was not. Plus, I never understood how the 'common man' still felt that Stern was one of them while he was telling stories of going to NoBu or playing games with Stamos & his wife. Lastly, watching Stern do his recent media blitz to promote his move to satellite has been laughably hypocrital. I mean, the guy was on Entertainment Tonight, Extra, US Magazine, and every other grocery store checkout line rag. Basically, all the things that he's made fun of his whole career. Angle-plex 0 Report post Posted January 5, 2006 Artie agrees to much with Stern to avoid confrontation, which hurts the show. The guys yelling at each other was always great. Sal the Stockbroker has actually been carrying the show the last year with stories of his shit marriage and constant jokes against the rest of the crew. kkktookmybabyaway 0 Report post Posted January 5, 2006 It's a good thing that Masked Man of Mystery supplied us with this helpful and informative account of David Lee Roth's new radio program. There's no mystery as to his opinion of Mr. Roth. And next time, make sure the thread's title is TOAO David Lee Roth Show. And Lang has been on Stern's show for 5+ years? Dang. Masked Man of Mystery 0 Report post Posted January 6, 2006 There's no mystery as to his opinion of Mr. Roth. I don't mind Van Halen, I got Best of Both Worlds for Christmas, he made fun music back in the day, but that first show sucked(I haven't been up in time to hear him since, and I'd rather listen to Stephanie Miller anyhow )
Masked Man of Mystery 0 Report post Posted January 6, 2006 Okay, I happened to not be able to sleep this morning, and I'm listening, he's definately improving, the discussions are getting more interesting.
Masked Man of Mystery 0 Report post Posted January 6, 2006 He was much, much better today. I'm now willing to give him more time, but if I had Sirius it wouldn't even be a contest.
Angle-plex 0 Report post Posted January 6, 2006 The 2 hour Stern "sound checks" that have been going on the last few days have been infinitly better than Roth, despite crappy sound and messed up bits.
kkktookmybabyaway 0 Report post Posted January 6, 2006 (edited) Okay, I happened to not be able to sleep this morning, and I'm listening, he's definately improving, the discussions are getting more interesting. How many days has this guy been on the air? Give him some time. I'm sure you didn't become a Professional Otaku in just a few days. Corey_Lazarus 0 Report post Posted January 7, 2006 Today's show was definitely interesting. Much better than his debut on Tuesday. He's getting more comfortable in his position.
JJMc 0 Report post Posted April 11, 2006 Has anyone been listening to this lately? Apparantly they stripped down the show to just him talking for 4 hours in an effort to get him to quit. Anybody know if he's definitely getting the ax?
CheesalaIsGood 0 Report post Posted April 11, 2006 I haven't heard too much about him getting axed but the show isn't very good. Dave does alright when he is talking about the music business as he has a good amount of insight. I just can't listen to him talk about anything topical like that girl that got murdered in NY by that bouncer guy. I mean who gives a shit what David Lee Roth thinks? He is as relevent as a messageboard poster in the scheme of things. No offence anybody.
Guest NYankees Report post Posted April 11, 2006 I heard that got rid of most of his sidekicks and had him change the format of his show. Great job by Krock 92.3 to replace Howard Stern with David Roth. I read somewhere that the audience has dropped like 80 percent from Stern to Roth.
