Failed Bridge

2006 NFL Off-Season

Recommended Posts

The thing that I am most amped for about this draft is even if it goes chalk, it will still be interesting. If it goes as chalk as this will get: Bush, Ferguson/Williams, QB, Ferguson/Williams, Hawk you will have the story about at one of the QBs falling and questions about if Cutler will leapfrog the remaining one. If there are trades that is always fun and if someone goes off chalk it opens up new possibilities.

Life's gotta suck for Leinart right about now. He was the concensus no. 1 pick last year before deciding to come back to pad his records. He doesn't get the Heisman, loses the big game and now seems to be free-falling in the draft, with many new mocks having him at 9 or 10 overall.

His parents already have money to begin with, thus his decision to stay in school.

I think the Texans may draft 5 offensive linemen.

Nah, 2 or 3 tops. They still need another DB and a strongside LB. Winston in the second and someone like Colledge with one of the 3rds if available. Knowing Casserly though, he'll take some guy from Directional Podunk Technical College due to his "huge upside". Here's hoping Kubiak's running the show.

I'm still trying to figure out why a lame duck GM is being trusted with a draft where they are the no.1 pick. Showing off that no. 1 pick may have helped to lure in a bigger GM candidate.

ESPN.com reporting now that Houston is leaning towards Mario Williams and have made Williams a better offer than they made Bush. Also, Houston and Bush have not had contact in over 24 hours.

Interesting to see if this is leverage or not. Houston as a town was rabid for Vince Young. Will be interesting to see what happens if they pass on Young as well Bush.

He's not in control. Kubiak has final say on who they take in the draft, according to one of the Chronicle's NFL beatwriters.

Will be interesting to see what happens if they pass on Young as well Bush.

There are a few fans, via e-mails and message boards and the like, that are proposing a "Burn All Your Texans Shit" party. This proposed party would also include said fans pledging allegiance to the Titans, or whichever team takes Young.

I just rewatched the Rose Bowl. It's amazing how good Vince Young was in that game.

They say a lot of teams are scared of him b/c they've never seen a QB like him. I know some people compare him to Vick but he's NOTHING like Vick.

Does he remind anyone of any player?

What's the highest OU player projected in this draft? After having like 8 or 9 players selected last year I guess it's a weaker draft class from OU. I still think Dusty Dvoracek will be the best pro out of all of them.

I think that if Matt Lienert falls to the Cardinals Dennis Green will have a heart attack. I think Kurt Warner would be a great mentor to Leinert.

If the Texans take Williams instead of Bush, things will get interesting in a hurry, as there are probably a lot of teams willing to trade for the Saints' #2 pick if they know they can get Bush.

I'm thinking that if Bush is available, the Jets may want to trade the #4 and #29 picks to the Saints to move up.

That being said, I think that this is probably a bullshit negotiating ploy.

The Texans have been committed to Bush informally for months, which everyone knows, so this smacks of a last-ditch effort to break Bush and get him to accept a smaller deal than he's pushing for.

I agree Teke, me thinks it also is a BS ploy, or a ploy to see if they can get a desparate team to leap high for this pick.

To me I guess VY reminds me the most of Randall Cunningham. Long and lanky, but could be elusive. Cunningham had better arm strength, but VY is no slouch either.

I read somewhere that according to the NFL Network, its a done deal. Mario Williams signed with the Texans. Can anyone confirm this?

Even though I didn't see it happening, this REALLY puts the Saints in the catbird seat of the draft.

Now they can demand a premium price because the taker could get Reggie Bush, Leinart, or Vince Young, all of whom could go off the board at #3 to the Titans.

If the Saints drop to the #4 slot, they'll get D'Brickashaw Ferguison barring an unexpected swerve.

If the Saints end up with the Packers' pick at #5, I think they'll probably end up with AJ Hawk because I think the Jets may pick up Brick instead of either Leinart or Young.

Vince Young is a second Daunte Culpepper by all accounts. Maybe minus the attitude, as well.

The story of Vince Papale, the Eagles WR and special teamer who was 30 when he tried out for the team and made it, is getting made into a movie called "Invincible". Mark Wahlberg is playing Papale, and Greg Kinnear apparently is playing the role of Dick Vermeil. Since Kinnear is playing the role of Vermeil, he better be able to cry on command.

Anyone have any idea on the latest with McNair and the Ravens?

Supposedly whatever was happening (him being released or traded to the Ravens) was supposed to go down today..but as of yet nothing..

I would much rather him be released than the Ravens have to trade for him cause its clear the Titans dont want him but Im sure they'll ask for a lot in return in a trade.

The question is, like Joey Harrington, how much the team can afford to play a game of "chicken" with big money tied up in players they want to dump.

That brings up another question... How does the NFL's salary cap cover released players? Does it only hit the team up for whatever guarantees are left on the player's contract at the time of release?

IIRC, the NBA's salary cap won't allow a team to get salary cap relief by releasing a player, which is why so many teams trade for guys with large expiring contracts in order to free up their cap that offseason.

Hell...at this point, Joey Harrington is an upgrade at backup QB for the Ravens...you know cause Boller's bound to get hurt and they didn't draft a QB so their current and only backup is Brian Saint Pierre.

In fact, I think Id rather have Harrington than McNair..younger and less injured.

I haven't read the salary cap rules in a long time, but I think the guaranteed money is spread equally over the life of the contract. In the event you release the player, that money that is still owed over the life of the contract goes against the cap that year. I could be way off though.

Jason Taylor victim of road rage. Tom Brady's whereabouts - unknown.

Miami Dolphins linebacker Jason Taylor was cut on the arm during a road rage incident near his Davie home last night that ended in the arrest of the other driver.

Taylor, who refused medical treatment, issued a statement from Tampa this morning where he is participating in a charity golf tournament organized by Tampa Bay Buccaneers player Derrick Brooks.

''My wife and I were the victims in an unfortunate incident last night, but we are both fine,'' Taylor said in the statement. 'I truly appreciate everyone's concern and am looking forward to enjoying a great day of golf at Derrick Brooks' charity event here in Tampa.''

Davie police give this account of what happened, based on their interview with Taylor:

Taylor and his wife were driving south through the intersection of State Road 84 and Flamingo Road when he saw a red Ford pick-up truck backing up in the wrong direction and heading directly toward the couple's car.

Taylor honked his horn, but the car kept backing up at about 10 mph.

The driver tried to swerve around Taylor's car, forcing the sports star to run off the road into the grass. Both vehicles stopped at Southwest 130th Avenue and Eighth Street. Taylor got out of his car. The truck driver also got out and banged on Taylor's trunk.

The other driver screamed profanities, threats and racial slurs at Taylor.

Taylor told police that the man grabbed and ripped his shirt, then retrieved an ''unknown metal object'' from inside his truck and attempted to cut Taylor with it.

The linebacker stepped away, but was cut on his forearm.

The other driver got back into his truck, which was carrying another man, and drove away. Taylor followed him and dialed 911, but lost track of the truck somewhere near a trailer park in Davie.

Detectives later arrested Charles Redman Burns, 25, at his home at 3740 Southwest 60th Ter. in Davie. He was charged with aggravated battery as a hate crime and resisting arrest.

Police said Burns punched and kicked the officer who tried to handcuff him. When he tried to kick out the window of the police car, an officer sprayed him twice in the face with pepper spray. Then he was taken to the Broward County Jail.

Well McNair needs to be released or traded before he can sign the contract. Plus, I thought Jason Taylor was played all over in MIA. At linebacker, DE and some strong safety or something..... I'm not sure as I haven't been able to watch many Miami gams but thats what I read at the beggining of last season, that they would use him everywhere.
